I have just got this bank and I must say they are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful analog patches. I have bought a few DW8000 banks recently and been happy with them too, but this bank is exceptional I must say. One of the finest analog sounds banks I have heard in a while. This synth can sound amazingly analog and because of its analog filter, it sounds even more convincing. Its fat and a floor shaker for sure. These patches bring out the best in its analog sounds. Some interesting digital waveform choices have been made though creating some very unusual and interesting sounding analog pads etc..

Thanks for that demo! Big thumbs up not only to the sound, but also to your playing skills. I am not a big fan of arpeggiators, but maybe I just never managed to play them in such a musically meaningfully way. The same is for the use of that pitch/mod stick. Usually I prefer the classic wheels, but I expect to receive my DW8000 very soon. Will check out on how I will be able to handle that.

GREAT SOUNDING patches there Analog Audio!! Lots of hard work into that I'm sure... Slovenec... You are correct! In 1982, I bought a brand new Polysix and used it professionally in my rock band. Soon after, I needed to upgrade, so picked up a new DW-8000 (which was next generation over the DW-6000). At the same time, I bought the DSS-1 because I needed a sampler in the band. (Funny, we had to creat the setlist around the load times for that floppy drive :O) Anyway, Today, STILL have both here in the keyboard studio. Alas......Two Polysix's sit out in the garage in need of repairs. Currently own and use professionally TWO Korg Kronos.. an X-73 and a Kronos 2 - 73 Musically fun times.... ; -)

As an original DW8000 owner, I can testify this is an excellent collection of sounds. I've gone through all the different factory banks (the DW and EX) and some of the others out there. To get a collection as good as these, you would need to go through several banks and pull together the best patches and then tweak them to your musical tastes. Great collection of sounds that demonstrates what the DW is capable of!

I'm really surprised that nobody has picked up on the 8000's delay that is creating this special 3D sound which adds so much more to the sound. The SDD series of delays shares the same technology . I think the Poly 800 Mk II includes the same delay as well.
@AnalogAudio18 жыл бұрын
no, the SDD-3000 sounds different and has different capabilities. The SDD-3000 is a flexible and professional delay. The built in DW delay is a kind of "add on", the Poly-800 II delay is even more scaled down.

Nice patches. I am trying to decide between buying the dw8000 and the jx3p mainly for lo-fi warm pad sounds with a hint of the 80's. As someone that probably owns both would you suggest one over the other?
@Gazdatronik10 жыл бұрын
I have both. I use both a lot. I would not part with either. Check out my vids. most all the songs use both. But-if I had to pick one, I'd go dw-8000. Many many other DCO style synths sound like a JX-3P, but nothing(NOTHING) sounds like a DW-8000.
@ciaranduignan994610 жыл бұрын
Gazdatronik I actually ended up getting a dw-8000 in the end and youre right, it sounds great. The only problem is that I have to send it away for repair now as the sound starts to muffle and become distorted after a min or two after I switch it on.
@techstormster8 жыл бұрын
What was the problem? Was it anything more than a faulty relay? Like the Casio CZ series are plagued with?
@ciaranduignan99468 жыл бұрын
techstormster The problem went away by itself actually. I guess it was in storage for a long time and needed to be used a bit. Although I still need to get it serviced as there is still a slight hum from it.
@ChasD7 жыл бұрын
I know this is from a few years back and you already bought your DW8000, however, my two pennies worth: I have both a DW8000 and a JX-3P. They are very different synths, though there are some cross overs. The 3P is much more traditional analogue sounding, and once you get programming it, it can sound way better than its sterile presets. Better still, upgrade it with the KiwiTechnics KIWI3P upgrade (I did) and it becomes one very powerful and versatile DCO synth. It has the best of the oldschool analogue sound with the potential to do a lot more thanks to its dual oscillators, oscillator sync and also it's able to do PWM (though not with a dedicated PWM controller). It also has a lot of character and flexibility, plus it has the characterful Roland sound. A unique synth that's way more poweful than it first appears. The DW8000 is also a very unique synth. It's more modern sounding than the 3P, better at pads and soundscapes, though not quite as good at sounding as analogue as the Roland. Not that surprising considering it uses digital waveforms compares with the 3P's analogue DCO's. However, the DW's filter is brilliant and much wilder than the 3P's, which adds a lot of flavour to the sound. The 3P's resonance can be increased (it was set very tame from the factory), but the Korg still has the better filter. The DW is capable of much more evolving type sounds thanks to its 16 digital waveforms, though it's not as programmable as the 3P. To sum up, I find them very different synths and not really in the same ball park at all. A JX-8P is closer to the DW8000 than a 3P, as the 8P was well known for its warm pads and more complex sounds. However, for more classic analogue sounds, the 3P excels and beats both the 8P and DW. The DW beats the 3P and 8P for pads and complex sounds. The best solution is to simply buy both a 3P and DW!

Love the DW8000. Don't compare it to any VST synths! There is an almost spiritual and psychic buzz coming from programming and tweaking these sounds from a real synth. VST's can sound amazing, but there is still a missing factor when you try to emulate these tones. I have lots of VST synths and a few keyboard controllers myself. But nothing compares with the hands on experience of a real hardware synth...

Yet THIS synth has driven me very close to using a very practical VST :)

I love the POLY 61, but WHY does the DW8000 sound so much better please?
@AnalogAudio19 жыл бұрын
monsterjazzlicks well, it has a built in chorus/delay and a 24dB filter instead of 12dB... it's also more variable. But the Poly-61 sounds more analog.
@monsterjazzlicks9 жыл бұрын

+monsterjazzlicks zawinul used a dw? im getting one now
@SLOVENEC19729 жыл бұрын
+monsterjazzlicks I use to play my high school's Poly61 and programmed the hell out of it. It was the first synth that I used and I got some great sounds out of it, despite being very limited in terms of programmability. The DW8000 is a much more flexible synthesiser with those 16 digital/analog waveforms (revolutionary at the time but Korg simply couldn't market their products in the 1980s up until the M1 came out). The filters are 24db and there are 6 stage EGs for the filters and amp respectively. The Poly 61 had a basic 4 stage ADSR for amp if I remember correctly. The LFO (MG in Korg speak) was also much more flexible with multiple waveforms as opposed to the simple sin wave in the Poly 61. The built in digital delay/chorus/flanger fx added a lot to the overall sound of the instrument and this was also revolutionary for the time. The sound palette available was also much larger with those extra waveforms and I loved my now sold DW8000 for it's hybrid analog/digital sounds. It's EPs, pads and even a couple of the synthesised electric guitars didn't sound bad for the time. I really regret selling mine, although I admittedly sold it for a good profit to somebody who was desperately after one! If you have one, hold on to it! It's a great synth.
@monsterjazzlicks9 жыл бұрын
SLOVENEC1972 Thanks a lot. I never actually PLAYED any of the DW synth range. I have thought about buying a POLY 61 if one came along on eBay at a sensible price. But people often complain about the BATTERY design as is is/was prone to LEAKAGE!
