I have both Krome EX and Yamaha MODX. Also, I own Roland Integra 7, Krog Kross 2 and Yamaha MX61. In my opinion, the sound, patches, dynamics and sample quality of the Krome EX is much better than any of the other synths, you hear it very clearly. In fact, I'm very dissapointed by the Yamaha MODX as the emulation of the acoustic and analog instruments is not realistic, it sounds dull and with a "plastic sound". I bought the ModX as I was very impressed by the Yamaha MX61 sound quality for its price, easy use and light weigth. So I was expecting something better for the MODX. Unfortunately, the MODX not only has very bad emulation of classic synths, sax sounds, strings but there is a lack of classical patches (for example, in the Krome you have many presents of famous songs like brass of "Jump", "In your eyes" Peter Gabriel, "Echoes" PInk Floyd, "Chariots of fire", and so on). In that sense, even the half-priced MX61 or Kross 2 are much better. Krome EX is even better that the Integra. The only frustration aspect of the Krome is the weight and maybe some workflows are easier in the MODX, but not patch editing. Also, the Krome has a free patch/comb editor while for the MODX you need to buy it. There are many Krome patches are available for free, while MODX most of the banks are not free. So, in conclusion, although in the paper the MODX sounds like a better idea (due to more memory, controls, super knob, etc.), the sounds are not good for a synth in such price range. In fact, I bought the MODX after the Krome after reading in the internet that it was "MODX to be much better", but it is not, sounds in the KROME are much better.

I ve bought a modx one year ago. I m not a keyboard player, my idea was to have one synth to do it all so i will not need to buy vsti libraries that sometimes is difficult for me to find for my old mac i have in my studio set up. It has a lot of functions but i dont like at all a lot of sounds. The ethnic section is awful, instruments that are played with a pick sounds piano like a hammer hit, bowed instruments sounds like synths etc. I also dont like ay brass instruments and the orchestra ones are lacking power and expression. It has very nice guitars but i am a guitarist so i don't care so much. My thoughts are to sell my modx and buy a krome. Do you think i should do that move? One thing i like in the modx is that i can use the usb to record multitracks straight in the daw to mix it later, can the krome do this?

Krome doesn’t even have seamless sound switching but does have a much better sequencer. But I can’t stand switching between sounds and having cut offs so I go with modx. Also the modx has sliders to fade in sounds and the macro to color the sounds as you wish.

Thaks for a very good comparison! Well, Korg sounds more fat, deep, maybe it's a little darker than modx. Yamaha sounds more clear, dry - maybe sits better in the live mix. I think Korg sound is more interesting and complex. Didn't touch the modx but I'm a bit dissapointed its sound when I listen to this video. I do prefer Korg.

Depends on what you need. I need great acoustic piano sounds with semi weighted keys, bought the MODX 7 Plus, had problems updating the firmware (so did the big online seller I bought it from on a few others, so be aware), so I returned it. Replaced it with the Korg Krome 73, so glad I did. The Krome blows the MODX away when it comes to Acoustic Piano sounds, no comparison. The semi-weighted keys on both are pretty lame, I like the Korg a little better as the keys are truly full sized, on the MODX the black keys are a bit narrow.

It's not even close. The MODX sounds much cleaner, more realistic and professional in literally every case. The difference was especially marked on piano, FM EP, flute, brass and strings. The Krome is usable, but it actually sounds much closer to the cheaper Yamaha MX than the MODX. However, pricing on the Krome is only a couple of hundred dollars less than the MODX and far more than the MX, so it's very expensive for the sound and features that you get. The MODX just blows it away.

what about Electronic sounds? Krome have own warmth character of sound, MODX have a more plastic character as I heard, but all depends from hands of sound designer, both instruments are great, here is no winner
@geoffk7773 жыл бұрын
@@NatLifeSounds The MODX is the winner here too. It has a wide range of synth sounds and a very powerful synth engine that lets you modify individual synth engines and then stack them up to 65 deep in a single voice for incredibly thick and powerful analog sounds. The filter and LFOs are very versatile, and overall, it's one of the most powerful synths on the market. Plus it has the very flexible and powerful FMX engine, giving you an unprecedented range and ability for FM sounds. On electronic synth capabilities and sound, the Krome brings a knife to a gun fight here. I don't think that the MODX sounds plastic (it *IS* all plastic, but it doesn't sound that way). It's warm and natural, and the analog synth sounds are deep and powerful. I agree that most instruments are distinctive, usable and have some character of their own. But some are still better than others, objectively. An old upright and a concert Steinway grand are both distinctive and usable pianos, but one is worth 1000 times the price of the other. Sound designers also make a difference, but both Yamaha and Korg have talented designers working for them.

@@NatLifeSounds "I'm working with PC synthesizer more than 20 years". Good for you. I've been working with synthesizers for over 40 years. My first synth was a genuine Moog (a Sonic Six) and I've had lots of analog and digital synths since then. I currently own a Montage 8 and Behrenger Poly D, among many others. And I don't find the Montage "plastic" sounding at all. Whenever I use it, the depth and quality of its sound just blows me away. Incidentally, I also have a Kronos 2-88, which sounds much worse to me than the Montage (and sounds and feels much more to me like a collection of VSTs--which is basically what it is). You're entitled to your own opinion, but I definitely don't share it. The MODX is basically a flagship Montage with very minor differences. But the Krome is a long way from the Kronos (you'd have to step up to a Nautilus for that). So they're barely comparable, and the Krome is just not in the same league as the MODX. Overall the sound of this video seems to be heavily compressed which is not helping for the accurate perception. Anyway, MODX has an undeniable sonic and expression superiority, on top of much greater controller depth and flexibility, and incomparable effects and routing power. Krome sounds like 10+ years old synth, muffled and drown in reverb to hide the lack of quality. It is so far off from the 2021 sonic soundscape. it's hard to imagine anyone can consider using it for anything but garage band rehearsals.

The sounds of the Korg are much more synthetic, where it makes up for it is of course on the synthesis, where it dominates. But the classic sounds (piano, organ, guitar) are purer and more realistic on the Yamaha side.
