You are Correct the Kronos is dated but, it was 10 yrs ahead of it's Time. Korg has continued to update this Workstation and has done a very Great Job! It is still the best Workstation to this day 2020, (9 Engines). Nothing is even Close!🎯 (Karma Kills,) Yamaha & Roland. Rolands V - Pianos are Formidable just as good. The Montage Sequencers has some deep editing features, the Fantom has 1100 dated sounds, the Montage sounds are very good (Modern) the both Boast only ( 2) Engines. Both cost more than the Kronos. The VST's are Formidable to all these workstations they are getting better, and better. Right now the Modeling, Samples has been the best it has ever been. When you are listen to your favorite what ever who sits around and says that was 24 bit 192k, that's Roland, Korg, Yamaha, Kurzweil. No one.... No one. I have them all because, I gives me options to keep pushing Greater! Yes there are cons and pros, how much better is better, who cares about which is better. (I) will settle for( it's As Good), because it continues to gives me Options. I love having Opitions, Great Music etc... comes from the Artist who are using these tools. The Workstations, VST's do nothing on their own. 💯🎯

I just got one in July from Sweetwater. It's a very, very sweet machine. Plus it gets me away from the computer which is a huge plus for me. When I sequence, I use my ears more instead of my eyes. I also use external controllers, iOS devices, etc. to add to its capabilities. This board is bangin' - sounds great.

That’s not true. The screens they use are simple but what’s even simpler is Nords screens and instead of giving you direct access to everything you have to use buttons and knobs. The technology they use is still manageable and useable in any setting. You can even hook up other software to use more sounds with Omnisphere and enhance what it already has even more.

So they finally work. Is the filepath length for samples still 76 characters? They have gigabytes of HD soace and 76 characters to make filenames and filpath names!? Never try to make your own samples with these things. Libraries are also bound to the machine. The machine crashes, you have to buy EVERYTHING again. Korg is a company of scammers.

I fear with all the VSTs out there now and MIDI keyboards, Korg making another flagship keyboard is out the window. As much as I love the Kronos, it's OLD and dated! It's not even 64 bit!!! The innards are parts from 2008, and the OS looks like something from 1982. I really hope one day Korg recognizes there will ALWAYS be a market for people who don't want to always rely on VSTs. Yes, they are great for studio work, but I really don't feel like getting another whole setup for use of VSTs while playing gigs. Besides, I wouldn't trust I wouldn't have latency issues if playing with VSTs live. KORG, PLEASE CREATE A TRUE KRONOS SUCCESSOR!!!!!!

Put your VST’s on an SSD and it may work better for you. My desktop has my VST’s on a platter hard drive (WD Black 7200rpm) and they stutter sometimes. My laptop, not as powerful as my desktop, has the VST’s on solid state drives and they play without a hitch.

It's the workflow that counts for me ... It has its huge advantages, it's light years ahead of working with computers (composing style...), if you know how to play an instrument of course and you don't need 120 tracks ... I would lost my idea a 1000 times if I was working with computer software ... Sometimes seconds matter ... And an overall feel, inspirational element ... You can't always look for a daily news and make a great song on a same device ... And you can do the rest sterile work on computer later ...

It's about workflow and creating ideas fast ... You can give a computer to a monkey and nothing happens. Too much options and rigid workflow kills the great idea in the start. That's a computer. Good for everthing, not so good for a specific task. I use Kronos for the core of the song, idea and complex mixing that would make your life a living hell if you do it on computer (it would crash probably ... 100%.). Than when it's time "to go slow" I use computer's strong points - lots of options, mastering, sampling etc. Think of Kronos like a navy seal unit, and computer like an army.

Guess you better forget it, Korg is falling way behind in keeping up with costumer support. Karma Kronos software is not supported in Win 10 2004 update, dev is not even planning to upgrade... Korg hasn't bothered to release an x64 version of Kronos editor software for windows, so you get a literally 1x1 inch dimension window in windows 10... Kronos is losing connectability fast, good as an expensive stand-alone keyboard, get your ass together and do something Korg developers !

@@thomasmueller7153 If you are just starting out with composing then I would say stick with Virtual Synths and get a cheaper MIDI controller. Kronos is really for live gigs, but it does have very powerful synths for studio.

@@stevereaver I need an instrument that has 72 keys, it‘s own speakers to listen to and an authentic piano sound recorded from grand pianos , because I will move the instrument to practice sessions with other musicians. Just a simple midi controller won‘t do for me. So it‘s like a cross between a digital piano and an arranger station. That‘s why I looked at the Kronos, PA700, PA 3X. What bothers me about the common arranger stations is that they heavily focused on electronic music, effects, sound manipulations, 100s of drum sets. I need something that‘s more focused on acoustic instruments , classical instruments. But that doesn’t seem to exist because classical composers seem to always work with actual orchestras. So I’m stuck with super high-tech arranger stations of who’s buttons and functions I will only use 10%. Which brings me back to my original question : „ how are the acoustic instrument samples in this instrument in this video?“ could I work as a classical composer with this thing?

I bought this keyboard (platinum) in 2016. Still have it. Nothing has change. Bought it more for the synth and electronics than the piano sound which is fine but not great. If you want great ac pianos go to Nord. This is an extremely great overall keyboard.

Korg could really innovate by licensing the OTTO efx engine from Ensoniq, which had the most amazing effects algs ever (I've never heard 2+ minute 'infinite' reverbs elsewhere). It's only available in aging ASR-10 or DP/2 or DP/4 units, never heard anything like it since. Woud be a shame if no one ever remodelled it in modern hardware.

IK&S Nice. For me personally I had a Montage 8 sound designing is my thing but not too deep like all these FM Synthesis and stuff so I felt like it was a waste of use so why not trade it for someone to use it and take care of it better than I do. Went with a Nord Stage 3 cause it’s straight forward no menu diving and can make more money gigging and travelling cause of the weight and quality. I have a Roland Jupiter-X for VA sound design since it’s versatility. Leads and Brass but I mostly use it for leads. Man everybody has their strengths and weaknesses which is what makes the music baby!!!

Hello! Korg has been making the Kronos for many years now, and while the hardware and software of the keyboards have changed with the pace of computer technology (processor speed and memory have improved drastically) Korg has maintained an operating system that has always been backwards compatible. Essentially, while a newer Kronos might have more potential memory, more sounds, and more effects built into it, it can run the same operating system and operate very similarly as an original Kronos from nearly 10 years ago. That answer is a bit vague, but to know exactly how your Kronos compares to this one, you may have to dig into the specs of each keyboard's sound libraries. That being said, what I'm saying is that the two will likely work indistinguishably from the other. my beef with the color is you cant see the text when the light gets a bit funky or a bad angle, black or white. kromeEX is the same color silver with white lettering, what were they thinking. I seriously am going to have to print the text on clear sticky paper with the laser printer to fix that. edit: The bodies should either be black or white with opposite color text is what i am saying here lol. dealing with lighting is the real game. If I was king of korg, i would have a glowing case behind bold black letters. It would just be white with black letters in the sun, but once night falls it lights up

As a newbie to these kinds of synths can all the midi tracks be exported to a DAW so that you could sequence with other stuff in your DAW. Ie develop your track in the workstation and then export it (not rendered but as raw MIDI that can be played back through the Kronos) ?

You’d get the raw midi data, but not the actual sounds from the Kronos.

@@pentachronic looking at page 523 of the parameter guide of the Kronos, while in sequencer mode it will record the control data as well as the midi notes. It should replay the CC data as it was recorded. The sequencer can even switch the instruments a track will use on the fly. Is it then possible to build your own tracks to record a song more complex than just 16 tracks inicially available on this CRONOS...??? If so, I suppose that you in that case, are allowed to "integer" those adicional tracks to the basic 16 ones that this unit got from the beginning in some mixing technique... Am I right...??? The thing is that even with the best VSTs on the market you can't do everything what you can do in this beast all in one place. They nearest thing I've seen to this is Omnisphere... And it still lacks drum, karma and Strings engine.
