I watched K Klass (from my home town) on top of the pops back in 1991 and told my girlfriend I was going to save up and buy a Korg M1 and get in the music industry. She laughed in that small town no ambition mentality that everyone recognises. I was 16 at the time, fast forward 5 years and hundreds of demos later and I was doing remixes for pop acts in the mid/late 90's and gaining a best chart position with one act of number 14 on Top Of The Pops. Bless the M1, my first synth which helped me dream big.

I loved my M1 - I once recorded an album with it, using it for drums, bass, strings, guitar and piano sounds, the lot. I overdubbed my Rhodes, ARP Axxe and Korg Trident over the top, and it all sounded great! Such a versatile workstation, with a simple to use sequencer.

Hi Dr Mix, The way you made the bass on the M1 remind me some pieces from Alan Parson Project.😊

Claudio, you are a true inspiration! I listened until the very end and you showed incredible mastery of your studio via a live jam session. After about 10 minutes you stopped and said "..One last time.." The rhythm you then programmed, on the fly, was sensational. Great respect to a great artist! I wished I had had enough money to have bought an M1 back in the day but had to settle for its little brother the Korg M3 module. Still has great sounds but its presets are not as 3D s the M1. I gather the M1 has more oscillators (?!)

Hi, thanks for the nice video’s! I also still like playing my M1 on regular basis. However I just want to point out 2 interesting projects specific for the M1. 1) Waverex expansion card. With this card you can add your own wavetables. Aspen Craft once did a quick review, but it would would be interesting to see another PRO using it…. 2) Nick Klimenko’s LFO patches. Last year there were some new patches developed, some of them with with real good quality. It quickly gives the M1 a complete new soundscape, and hours of fun…. Again, really interested how a PRO get’s music out of this. Otherwise maybe others enjoy it!

Back in 2005, a band I played with from 2001 to 2004 reunited for a one-off appearance. While we were rehearsing, the bass player we found informed me that he was connected to a warehouse where there were still brand new M1 units for sale. I found it incredible to learn that Korg distributed this synth/workstation in 1988, it was one of their biggest sellers and it was still available unused and in demand 17 years after its unveiling. And, that was when Korg unleashed Oasys onto the market. I always favored its successors, the 01W and X lines (this band’s principal keyboard was an X5 synth, a friend of mine owns a 05rw module, and 2 other people I used to know had different 01W models), but I won’t deny how killer the M1 is.
@MichaelArtelle4 ай бұрын
I had the M3 for a while with the expansion module. The built-in Karma engine made playing live fun as you could be a one man band with it, and it changed the accompanying background parts based on what you played in terms of chords.
@Shred_The_Weapon4 ай бұрын
I thought of getting the M3r myself, @@MichaelArtelle. I liked the idea of having a new module based on keyboard synthesizers that didn’t lose the sequencer or the sampling interface.
