Great effects, would suit an intro for a Gary Numan track...I have just downloaded the ms20 for ipad $21, and am going to run it through an effects pedal. Could be similar stuff but on a budget..Great vid cheers...

I've got the Korg MS20 app as well, it's a lot of fun. I really need to look at getting a MIDI keyboard for it as that would make for a fun, portable setup.

i bought the big sky and must say that one year later it is not my go to reverb. When you play a synth by itself the big sky sounds cool but when i use it in a full track it sometimes won`t fit. It always has the same signature in the reverb tail. i sometimes find it too much harry potter. I think that this is a case where the manufacturer really hit the sweetspot of many peoples taste. In a full mix though i sometimes get better results with a tone boosters reverb v4 vst (which costs 30 euros btw) or the maxforlive convolution reverb or the Toraverb by D16. The big sky is superb if you want to have an instant journey with a synth but it can not by any means do it all. just my 2 cents. at the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste. and after a year with it i am considering letting it go. the price is just a bit too crazy i find and i don`t want to support this way of thinking anymore. Btw i personally find the empress reverb sounding superb. maybe better than the big sky in some settings but this too is too expensive for a single pedal. especially when in 2017 it`s not as if it is so exotic building something like this when it comes to manufacturing costs

If a company like Roland can only manage £300+ for their flagship reverb, which they'll definitely cut corners with to decrease cost where possible, its hard to stay this can be done for significantly less by smaller companies. However its not the be all and end all of reverbs, just a fantastic one. It is intended as a guitar pedal, which makes sense for it to be more of an effect than a studio tool.
@WildernessMusic_GentleSerene
@WildernessMusic_GentleSerene 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree, a huge effect needs its own space to shine, the long tails of these massive reverbs can be trampled by other instruments in the orchestration. But if you have a simple score, not too complicated, this effect can be dramatic and useful. I have always said the synth and sound design is only half, post processing gives the song its emotional intent.

cheers RV6 looks great - i actually just picked up the TC hall of fame for now but had my eye on that also - great vids btw you had a go on the MS20 mini? Im thinking of getting that over the MS20 purely for the midi in
@3rdStoreyChemist
@3rdStoreyChemist 7 жыл бұрын
Only very briefly. There are subtle differences, but the main thing is the mini keys which I struggle with a bit as I learnt piano on full size ones. If you can deal with that, then the mini is fantastic.

I think the Minilogue would be a better option 4 voice polyphony against one on the mini step sequencer on the Minilogue,nada on the mini you need to buy SQ1 =more money spent,yes it sounds great but Minilogue give more options
@3rdStoreyChemist
@3rdStoreyChemist 7 жыл бұрын
I would not say the Minilogue has more options at all. The patch bay on the MS20 is capable of a fair it, plus can take signals from other sources, making it a very powerful synth. An SQ1 is hardly necessary either as it can be sequenced in all sorts of ways. The MS20 is more than capable of producing all sounds for a track and decent ones at that. If you want a keyboard that does synth sounds, the Minilogue makes more sense, if you want a synthesiser to generate sounds, then MS20 all the way.
@savanaviolenta
@savanaviolenta 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks,now after I saw the release of DeepMind 6 I might get that instead it's better than the Minilogue ,but there's something special about that MS20,we'll see
@MisAnnThorpe
@MisAnnThorpe 7 жыл бұрын
Or you could buy the much cheaper but gorgeous sounding MS10. Admittedly, it is sonically limited compared to the MS20 but there's something about its basic tone that I just prefer. The filter sounds "creamy" to my ears. If the single oscillator is a deal breaker, so to speak, buy 2 MS10s, and patch them together, as I've done. You'll still have change from the money you were going to spend on the MS20..... although probably not enough to buy the Big Sky!
@3rdStoreyChemist
@3rdStoreyChemist 7 жыл бұрын
I did have a MS10 for a while. Its near enough exactly the same sound, just perhaps a bit tighter low end from the lack of the HPF in the signal chain (Although PWM! Its worth getting one just for that). But the going price for 2 MS10's is more than the MS20 Mini new and pretty much the same for a second hand one, which again the differences with an original are subtle at best.
@MisAnnThorpe
@MisAnnThorpe 7 жыл бұрын
Then I must have got my MS10s unusually cheaply! The REAL problem with the MS20 mini, is that it just feels terribly flimsy and it's all too easy to imagine what most will look like when they've been around as long as the original has. Quite simply they don't give the impression of having been built to last..... because they haven't! Sound wise, all but a very few will be satisfied that the mini gives them everything they wanted in the original. Of those that aren't; for a good few, it'll be all in the head.

THe filter on the MS20 is especially wild, very much an added character with the resonance up. Harder to do digitally then most filter types.

@3rdStoreyChemist
@3rdStoreyChemist 7 жыл бұрын
Yes its the 12MTK and I do like it. Shame its limited to 48kHz and no inserts, but for the money its difficult to criticise really. Considering upgrading to the 22MTK. Would be good to see more companies taking the idea of combining an analogue mixing desk with a multitrack interface.

No problem with that! Whole reason for doing these is to give people a chance to get an idea of what these things sound like together rather than an advocation for them. So always good to hear when it doesn’t work for people just as much as when it does!
