I have today a Korg Poly Six that I bought brand new in 1981, pre midi... i have buried it in my closet and only recently want to have someone go through and make it right again. The pads and the unison switch were amazing... when I bought it and played it, it was the most amazing affordable synth on the market...yeah, i'm an old guy but would like to record more music with it. thank you for the trip down memory lane...

I bought mine in the mid 80's for $450. Spent more than that having the Korg midi board installed, gave me 256 patch locations, added a sustain pedal input, and deleted the extra note on the ends of and up/down arpeggio, and arpeggiator will sync to midi clock. I used mine for years as my go to bass synth, always sounded fat and translated well to small speakers. Also use the chord function a lot for electronic music ,but mostly use it now for the enjoyment/relaxation of just programming sounds, even if I never use them. It is super easy to program, and is absolutely gorgeous with reverb. I would never sell it

I do have a Polysix and I love its sound. Its rich and full sound comes from that beautiful ensemble effect it has. The arpeggiator is also fun and, combined with the chord memory function, allows you to do some nice experiments. The calibration for the keyboard tracking of the VCF is also excellent, so if you set the resonance to the maximum and the keyboard tracking to 100%, the resonance oscillates in perfect tune with the other oscillators.

My first poly synth in 1982. They called it “the poor man‘s Prophet“, but hey - it had one voice more than the P5 and those built-in FX! I loved it. And I like your well-researched synth videos. 👍

I sent my Yamaha keyboard all the way back to Japan for repairs in the early 1980s....and they were paid...and all they did was wipe it down and send it back. I`m not trying to insult the Japanese though because I`m a huge fan of their cars and radio receivers. They`ve made some high quality stuff and I own several Japanese radios for emergencies like hurricanes because of their reception performance and battery life. Their Sony ICF-19 is the only radio on earth that runs over 400 hours on a set of batteries! The amazing AMAZING thing about my Yamaha keyboard was the incredible sounds it played on its own when the batteries were going dead. It sounded like Eddie Van Halen mixed with Jimi Hendrix doing solos on the keyboard. It didn`t sound sloppy or fake either. I wish I still had it but it burned up in a club fire after a gig along with all of our equipment.

@@fuzzcityrecords432 I forgot the name of the place but it happened in Mansfield Louisiana. It was arson but they got away with it. We played a bunch of shows afterwards on borrowed equipment. Someone loaned me a drum set with only one cymbal and no hi-hat but we did pretty well until we could get new equipment.

Cool video! I love the PolySix! I unfortunately only own the VST by Korg, which, I think, sounds just great! That typical bass-sound it has is my no-brain bass sound.

1 important thing is that it was the first polyphonic synth with memory under 10.000 guilders ( i am from the Netherlands). In fact it was 3.800 guilders when it cam out.

I used to have the updated but not as nice sounding Poly 61. It was actually a pretty nice synth but not as warm. I also had a Poly 800 and it was quite a fun little synth though nowhere near as durable as the previous models.
