Seriously the best demo of this little beast I've ever seen! I love the volca series, this one is last on my list. Every time I play them I'm blown away by how good they sound. J have a moog voyager and a dot com modular system that they play along with quite well.

I have to be very honest, this is very inspiring, and has inspired me to buy and try to create something, you can even feel words that fit with this piece pop into your head, but I must learn how to connect this and other item like a drum machine and maybe a korg volca bass thing, for me the difficulty is the connecting this and that then mixing, it reall is great

@andyq96699 жыл бұрын
keys is defs best, I only use the v bass if I'm syncing them up together. You can do so much with the keys despite it eeming so simple, and I've got a room full of classic Moogs, ARPs, Rolands and CS Yamahas to compare to. It's just a pity the Volcas don't have the same filters as the monotribe, which sounds much, much nicer

When I saw this video, I knew I had to get the Volca Keys. I've had it a month now and already written several tracks with it. I really applaud how you've demonstrated here attenuating the amp/filter attack, decay/release, and sustain EG controls as well as the VCF controls really does a lot to introduce variation to patterns. What's funny to me about this video though is that the KP digital delay is a big part of the sound when the volca already comes with an excellent tempo-synced analog delay! I get that the digital delay is preferable for the sound you'er achieving here, but I think it would have been cool to also throw in some of the on-board delay as well, with its rounder sound. Thank you for putting this up, one of my favorite volca videos on youtube, imho one of the few that does a good job showing the power of its sequencer and realtime controls attenuating the sound during live sequencer playback. In other words, one of the few that shows the uniqueness of this instrument among the many analog synths and synth/sequencers out there.
@TonyHorgan9 жыл бұрын
Dave Daves There are two reasons I used a MiniKP2 instead of the internal delay for this. 1) The Volca Keys internal delay adds quite a lot of digital noise to the signal. 2) The Volca Keys internal delay is not quite at the end of the signal chain, so it doesn't give a true "delay" or "echo" effect. For example, the internal delay appears to be inserted into the signal path before the filter, so if you make a quick filter tweak, you don't get that repeated in the following delays. A true delay such as the MiniKP2 adds more depth and texture. And by the way, the delay on the Volca Keys is actually digital. It's a bit of signal processing handled by the main CPU. I interviewed the lead designer Tatsuya Takahashi some time ago and asked him about that... Tony: The Delay effect on the Keys: is that a digital delay, or how does that work? Tats: It's a digital delay but it's done on a microprocessor, not a DSP [digital signal processor]. We were able to squeeze out just enough processing power from it to do a delay. Currently that interview is online here: www.generalimprovement.co.uk/Interview.htm
@davedaves10199 жыл бұрын
Tony, thanks so much for the detailed reply and AWESOME interview, what a gem of volca info on the net. #1 WOW I've been living ignornantly, having read somewhere that the Volca Keys' delay was a true BBD affair - so I was shocked to read that Moog just halted production of their BBD-based delay pedal due to chip scarcity. and #2 Can't believe I didn't realize that the delay input is before the filter in the signal path - I suppose this ignorance persisted because I rarely move the filter about once set; early on I decided I don't care for filter sweeps on the VK, it's not the stepping that others bemoan, I just find it entirely underwhelming ( same with the LPF on the love of my life, my JX-8P, but turns out its not just me considering sweeps passe as I got a DSI Mopho yesterday and i'm sweeping compulsivley. And with the VK's delay, I almost always use it when not recording but with a super-short time to give notes a sculpted & less harsh release if that knob is tied up as the decay on a short note.
