Summer doesn't even start until Melodicka Bros take a traumatisingly sad metal song, and turn it into a happy fresh summer hit. And the video is amazing!

Within the context of the lyrics, those moments where Dave was just sitting or standing still in the midst of all the fun and activity actually really sold the whole concept of depression and feeling alone in a crowd. The cover was fundamentally meant to be a joke, but there was definitely some seriousness underneath. Maybe more so than in any of their funny covers that I've seen.

Korn's "Issues" was the first album I bought when I was a depressed 14 year old. Now I'm a happy 38 year old. This cover feels like I've come full circle :)

For all the depressed 14-year-olds who might scroll through this comment section: How did you do it?
@SaintDuma Жыл бұрын
@@KorAnos1 As a happy 37-year-old who was a very depressed 13-year-old when I first heard "Issues": I survived. It sucked and was hard, for what at the time felt like a very long time. But that isn't how you get happy. You get happy by practice. If I'd kept just surviving, I'd be 37 and depressed. There was a point where I made a choice to not accept surviving, and to only accept growing. But this wasn't some crap about 'choose your life and go for it!! motivational!!!!' - that's generally people selling you things. I was at a point where I was looking at the trajectory of my life and it all looked like an endless gray grind to pay bills until I died, and it felt deeply unfair that I'd been born just to be sad. So I asked for help. For me, that looked like an outpatient psych program, which I was lucky to live in a state where I had access to it, and worked at a place that had short-term disability to help me pay for my life while I was in it. But asking for help can be any number of things, and it's going to be different for everyone. The path to happiness isn't going to be the same for everyone. In that program, I learned important tools for challenging my irrational, self-destructive thoughts that often turned into self-destructive actions. I learned how to self-soothe when I was overcome by emotions. I learned to accept that there were things I couldn't change, but to recognize the things I could, and action them. I learned to forgive myself. And once I learned them, I practiced them. Constantly. I still practice them. And I'm getting happier. In April, I had three friends die; I was sad. I was wrecked. I'm still sad when I think about them, and I expect I will be for many years. But I had the tools. I took a day off when I heard about the second one, and spent the day taking care of myself. For me, it meant getting coffee and taking a long walk without music and with my phone on do-not-disturb. I did some laundry and I cried a lot. I let my cat purr on my lap and I talked about my friend when I could. When the memorials came, I went to them. And I cried there, with other people who knew my friends, and who were also crying, and we shared the joy and agony of having loved people and lost them. It's not a straight line between depression and happiness. It's weird and convoluted and surprising and overwhelming and it's so much work. But it is work worth doing. And the earlier you start, the further you'll be by the time you're my age. So it's worth it to start that work now. . If you want a specific recommendation, if you can, I highly recommend a DBT or CBT group therapy program. There may be in-person ones available near you, and I know there are ones available to attend remotely. These programs are designed specifically to give you tools to challenge and change the way you think about your situations and by extension, your actions regarding those situations. DBT = Dialectical Behavior Therapy. CBT = Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. There are certainly some criticisms out there about these, but in terms of raw usefulness, I haven't seen anything better. If you can't get into a program, look for self-guided resources. You're looking for tools, not for advice; you want worksheets, if you can find them. . Finally, I want to say something you might not want to hear: you're young. That's good and it also absolutely sucks. You don't have a lot of control of your life and that feels absolutely suffocating, but also, you still have a lot of actual neural development ahead of you, and that's a good thing. If you start working on acquiring those tools now, you're in a better position to use them reflexively for the rest of your life, and you will make better choices, and you will be happier. The sooner you start working on being happy, the faster you will get there. . I can't promise things won't sometimes still suck. April of this year really sucked for me. But it's June, and I've survived it, and I'm still happy. It's available to you, but it's a lot of work, and it's absolutely worth it. . Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!

Um, OK. I'm an even bigger Korn fan at the age of 39 when I was 14. I even saw them live last summer with Helmet and Evanescence. Korns music gets better as you get older. Honestly, I think their music appeals more to adults than children!

Thwre is a sound in the synth here that sounds like a kitten. Had me looking for our cats. Ty for the dope cover btw. I saw a comment here say something about how this expeplifys depression. Thia version is how we project to others, the original is the inner monolouge

I feel like this one hits harder than the original. It feels more like accepting the sadness rather than fighting against it and that really resonates with me. Sometimes that's okay.

I keep coming back to this specific cover. I know some comments have been about how dark it can feel, but to me it's feels genuinely positive. I remember being suicidal and going to parties or trips with friends. At the time I struggled to interact, yet they still invited me along. They were fine with me just vibing, being overwhelmingly happy to join even if I wasn't sure how to be fun at the time. Mental health is tough and it is very important to have genuine conversations about it. But it's also important to have fun and not make depressing thoughts be the centre of every interaction; that negativity can spiral and make it even harder to recover. Sometimes you just need friends who want you around, but don't need you to be happy to keep you around.

I never thought the Way Too Happy songs would become a genre unto themselves. These can be consumed as a fun morsel, or savored for the traffic-stopping, heart-rending meals they are. This installment instantly took me back to "Last Resort" without being a simple clone -- ample proof of how good the Melodickas have been and how much better they continue to get. Thank you for this track, and keep up the phenomenal work!
