I never heard the song as being "life sucks"; I heard it as "this relationship sucks". It was, to me, a personal note, to a specific person. Not a general statement about life, about cosmic truths. A direct, one to one statement, to someone in particular. Technically, a true nihilist would believe in nothing (which is kind of paradoxical, considering that the philosophy of nihilism is in and of itself a belief). In that respect, I don't think anyone is 'truly' a nihilist, even if they agree with parts of the philosophy behind it. Absurdism is a more accurate descriptor: essentially, "Accept and laugh at the meaninglessness of life. Nothing matters, so do whatever and have fun anyway". I haven't studied philosophy that deeply though; I did a poorly-written essay on the meaning of life when I was 13, and that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge on the subject, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I see this as a happier, healthier person looking back at who they were and how they used to be depressed and how they just watched the time fly by.
