Fieldy is one of those unique bass players. He has a very distinct sound, his highly percussive style cuts through and creates a life of its own in Korn's music.

Killer cover. Bass players think Fieldy is a joke. He does what he's supposed to and fits in perfectly. It's his sound and others are jealous. As a bass player you find how you fit in. It's not your typical low end, but it is amazing. Another example is Rex Brown. Dude had to find his place with Dimebag, Vinnie Paul and Phil, another insane combination of talent.

I remember my sister telling me she got a lot of hate on bass forums years ago cos she wanted to learn Fieldy's style. What is it about him that people don't like? I always thought his style worked really well, especially for creating the sound that Korn has.

Octopus Design it's just opinion. I personally don't like korn, I just like this guys playing. ive had people who like celine dion, tell me amy lee can't sing. I've had people who can't play guitar, and know nothing about it, say jimi hendrix is shit. some people think rex brown isn't a bassist cuz he used a pick. I like fieldys basslines, but I dont like korn. I cant understand how someone can dislike his playing, but hey its opinion. someone might say how can I like fieldy if I don't like korn, which isn't true, but doesn't stop someone saying it

Covering Fieldy isn't as easy as people think it is, his slapping style is unique and takes a lot of practice to learn. The tone and technique are almost identical.

Just saw Korn in concert with their replacement bassist when munkey was out with covid and Jonathan Davis had his throne out, second time seeing Korn :D kicked so much ass! First time, they got little Trujillo, son of big Rob from Metallica and suicidal tendencies, to play for them! Also kicked ass!

I have a question, since 4,5 and 6 string basses have different string spacing, do you tend to mess up a lot or not get used to the spacing as you switch basses when playing different songs or do you eventually get used to it?

There is definitely a period to get used to new or unfamiliar basses. In my case I have mine setup to my specs, so they are comfortable for me to play even with their differences.

I used an Agular rig. The trick is to scoop those mids and get the tone gritty and punchy.
