Tetris was made in Moscow in 1984 by Soviet engineer Vadim Gerasimov. And this song was taken as the main theme. All these japanese tetris clones also use korobeiniki as the main theme. It's a classic after all

I actually have an original gameboy copy of Tetris. Alexey Pajitnov made such a good game with Tetris, that it was the default gameboy pack in and many people bought the console EXCLUSIVELY to play Tetris. The USA found Tetris addictive.
