Actually, him catching all those Tauros was 97% an accident. He kept trying to catch other things, but a Tauros would get in the way as he threw the Pokeball EVERY SINGLE TIME after the first catching the first one. So instead of catching 30 different Pokemon, he caught 30 Tauros.

The recent actions he has made that made me tear a lot was during the movies I Choose You and Power of Us where he really proved that he didn't want to become a champion, just a master and a friend to everyone. Other than that, it was XYZ that made me cry a lot and SnM made me laugh a bunch.

Satoshi/Ash was actually into catching unique Pokémon that he thought would be really effective, yet he's also big-hearted, so it made perfect sense that, as sad as it was in the moment because Butterfree was his first catch, he'd let him and the pink one go off to start a new life in happy Butterfree-dom. And the other thing about Meowth learning to talk like a human is that he'd put so much effort into doing so that it'd shut him out of his stronger moves, preventing him from being a good fighter, whereas many other talking Pokémon happen to be that way due to being extra-special, such as some Legendaries and Mythicals as well as very specific instances of ordinary Pokémon species like the Ghos/Gastly at Maiden's Peak (BTW, funny how Ash's relative ignorance of folk tales and Pokémon then actually led to Gastly's cover getting blown; who but him would think to draw a Pokédex on a humanoid ghost and their summoned apparitions swarming him?) or Santa's Lapras (heh, I just realized a pun in there: "come sit on Santa's Lap-ras"). And, of course, Parrap/Chatot, but, actual ability to understand aside, that's more about simply imitating the raw sound of bits of speech, so they may not be quite as articulate. Poor Meowth. But at least he's a great Pokémon interpreter because of it, and he could still find love elsewhere. He did only turn evil because he was still desperate for Meowdonna/Meowsie, after all, even if he loves being friends with Musashi/Jessie and Kojiro/James. (I believe that Jessie's the only truly evil member of what I call the "Team Rocket White" trio.)
