Nice one, Jim! Those VFD's are going the way of hen's teeth and rocking horse droppings. I've seen one of those old clock displays being used as a low-power Amateur Radio transmitting valve. The small amount of RF that they can produce can be received from well over 1,000 miles away, given a decent aerial, receiver and ionospheric conditions.

A piece of 35% window tint would help the display. Some microwave ovens use something darker over their VFD displays but 35% seems to work well for me in most cases.

Cool project Jim! Thanks for sharing the debugging. I've never seen your DIY cnc wood router. That's pretty amazing too. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Hari - I've been meaning to show off the CNC router for over two years so far... finally got around to a project which used it. I'm looking forward to the next installment in your Sodoku machine. Cheers!!

Impressive Work space Jim!
@ThingsWhichArentWork8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Toby - It's actually a lot less impressive when you see it in real life... It's just a 6ft x 14ft shed, with most of the clutter moved so it's out of view of the camera when I'm recording. Cheers!!

What about a greenish-blue filter foil to enhance contrast of the display?

Nice idea - Thakns murtelbrunft - I'll keep my eyes open and see if I can find a suitable lighting gel for the job. Cheers!!

That looks fantastic. Is it still working after 4 years?
@ThingsWhichArentWork4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes - it's still ticking away happily. It's reasonably accurate (2 mins per year), and still on it's first coin cell backup battery. I'm still very happy with it sitting on my desk next to my moniter :-)

gcode is also used for 3d printing :D
@ThingsWhichArentWork8 жыл бұрын
Indeed it is... You can do some surprisingly powerful things with g-code because they keep on adding new features (such as bezier curves) as the stepper motor controllers become ever more capable. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers!!

If I had it my way... I would have made a wrist watch outta that VFD Circular clock! I'm not sure how that would work out though. Can anybody try?

How about you build these clocks and sell them as whole? The item at kosbo is sold out, but when they are not?......maybe a project?
