That microphone sounds way better then my Cougar Phontom headset, that I paid over $60 on... the left earpiece decided that it would work when it wanted to anytime I played something with modest bass, about a week after I got it. I've been dealing with that for a year or so now. It's gotten old.

@@TechHyped Having gotten this new set, I can definitely confirm this. Drop (aka Massdrop) did a run of these for $50, and there is a $20 off a first time order. So I got a set that sounds just as good if not better 99% of the time for half the price. The Mic is far cleaner (could still use one of those foam windblockers, tho). And unless you're listening to Bass music all the time, the headset sounds just as good. The fact it came with a cellphone-style inline mic for the phone in addition to this admittedly odd boom-mic thing is nice too. Thanks for the review, everything you said about it seems to check out on my end. and holy crap are they lighter.

I just got these a couple months ago because Drop was selling them for $29. I've had Koss headphones in the past, back in the late 90's and early 2000's as a kid because I could get them for $6 or less and I didn't know anything about sound; they just worked. But lately I've become obsessed with headphones and for $29 I couldn't pass them up. My ears are confused because they're made out of the same plastic as the spoon Wendy's gives you with a Frosty but they sound great with most of the games I play and music I listen to.

HyperX cloud 2 vs KOSS GMR-54X-ISO ??
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
Well, its usually double the price (roughly), its got the 7.1 shenanigans and echo/noise cancelling on the mic, while the GMR is a straight stereo headset with very little to no noise treatment on the mic. I like the GMR sound signature and mic quality better, but the build of the Cloud 2 seems like it can take more of a beating than the GMR. And between 7.1 fake surround vs GOOD stereo, GOOD STEREO all day, every day. If you want surround for your headphones for a game, get a GSP1000 and ignore these dongle things.

I *just* bought a pair of these(they haven't shipped yet iirc), but I just saw that the Razer Blackshark V2 X is on sell for the exact same price I bought these at($40, though I did have to pay shipping on the 54x). Would it be worth trying to cancel my order with Massdrop(I refuse to respect the name change to drop) and getting the Blackshark set instead? Or are these comparable? Edit: it sounds like, from your blackshark review, that the blackshark is worse about music which is a turn off for me. I think I'll stick with the 54X but I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on it.

@@astupidlylongnamethatstoolong well, the m20 and 30 are underrated, but the real jewel is the 40x. Between them and the gmr, would be a tossup in quality, honestly. Hahaha, no problem mate! I’ll always try to be as honest as possible ;) The 54x is really really god at the price, and yes, the included mic is a plus, of course, but the 9500 is better imho. Even if you need to get an external mic as well, its still better. And right now, the new BlackShark headsets from Razer seem to be gunning at the 54X for the throne at $50. is the pc37x worth the double the price?
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
Well... Kind of. Just like the GMR54X, the PC37X punches quite above it's price range. It's more comfortable and sounds better, and feels sturdier as well, and it has Sennheiser's "sound", which can be a pro or a con, depending on your preferences... Still, it's about diminishing returns... From a certain level of quality onwards, when you go UP in quality, price also goes up, but usually in a more steep curve. You'll pay 2x the price (100% increase) but get a 50% or 70% better headphone, for example. The higher you go up the ladder, less the actual gain, to the point where you can spend $4k on something that's like 5% better than something else that costs $1.8k In THIS case, I'd say you'd be getting a 50-65% better headset for 2x the money... Its subjective as hell, but the only thing in which the GMR outperforms the PC37X is the microphone. Doesn't mean the GMR is a bad one on everything else, as it's REALLY flippin well made for the $50 tag, but the PC37X is better.

I'm a bit late, but how do they stack up against the steelseries arctis 3
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
TLDR - I like the sound better on the GMR and I don't like retractible mics, plus the GMR doesn't compress MIC audio as much. Long version: Well, the Arctis3 is a bit older but that's not that big of a deal. I like the sound signature on the 54X better, the microphone doesn't have as much noise cancellation and compression, and I rather have the detachable mic/cable and another smaller cable to use on the go rather than the retractible mic of the Arctis.... Just seems like it's a system that should last longer. That said, prices are close so if you WANT something from steelseries, the 3 isn't a BAAAAD option... Its just not as good for what I'm looking for, but that visual and the retractible mic may be a MUST for you, so you might actually be sad not to get something that has it! No worries dude! But hey, if you already have the Arctis and it's working fine for ya, unless it breaks or its failing, I wouldn't say you SHOULD upgrade to the GMR just yet. If you wanna actually UPGRADE, its best to go for something in a higher tier if you current headset is still in use and working properly, and in that case, something like the PC37X would blow it out of the water. @@xbeinsidex1162 No problem, mate! As for the difference, anything that's made with Drop usually has some minor changes aside from the color palette. The sound signature and driver tweaks are probably a bit different comparing anything that's made exclusively by KOSS and this collab version, just as with all other Drop products (as far as I know).

@@xbeinsidex1162 I've personally only tried the Drop version. As for the shipping thing, try just adding it to a cart and going through the first steps on the checkout. It should come to shipping quickly.

I want it, but the fake leather earcuffs are a dealbreaker for me :( My ears get sweaty immediately with those, also after some time they wear out and little black flakes stick to your ears. Update1: I ended up buying these Koss headphones. They are perfect. Comfortable, great Sound quality and somehow my ears still can breath, they didn't get sweaty at all, even after 6-8 hours of gaming. About the fake leather flakes, well we will see in about 2-3 years :)
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
I hear you, man... Those are 2 pretty important points! The flakyness isn't something I can attest to, since I haven't been using them for thaaat long, but if it's anything close to what Drop has used in the past with other headphones, I don't thinkg that'd be an issue for quite a long time. Perhaps enough time that the padding will giveout before the flakes show up (if they ever do). This doesn't seem to be plastic faux-leather... The texture is so smooth and silky, but I totally understand your point. As for the heat, all I can say is that I'm a sweaty b4st4rd and ABSOLUTELY LOATH having my ears too hot! If these were ON-EAR, I'd 100% have a problem with that, but since they're over-ear and it doesn't come in direct contact with my ears, that hasn't been an issue. Still, if over-ear closed-back headphones with leather-y pads heat your ears too much, I'd definitely recommend something open-back, at least, and with materials that breath more... The PC37X uses a velvet-y sort of material, which isn't exactly COOL in itself, but breathes more, and since it's an opened can, the hot air isn't trapped in the earcups. Something in that direction might help! Cheers!

The way you speak in your review sounds more like a video essay rather than a review. I think your pauses in your sentences are supposed to add volume or meaning to what your saying but in a review setting it makes me bored and I had to watch this video at 2x speed. My suggestion: make sentences flow smoothly and once you point out flaws with a product or are trying to ration why a person should buy a product, then go in with the slower softer voice.

Do you think this headset is better than a $250 retail price headset like the GSP 600 professional gaming headset?
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
That, my friend, is a very good question... Let me put it like this: the PC37x is better than the GSP, and costs close to $100 less, and the GMR is basically the next best thing. Is the GSP600 5x better than the GMR? Nope! They're quite close actually but there are differences (mostly in build), obviously. Now... Let's say you have a $250 budget, but you want to grab a very good headset and spend as little as possible so that you can put the extra cash towards something else your setup might need (or just save a bit of money). In THAT scenario, the GMR is sort of the perfect option, if not the only one, that wont sacrifice in what's important in a gaming headset. On another scenario where you still have that $250 budget but you can spend a little more on the headset, or the extra stuff you need costs up to $100 max, the PC37X is the absolute winner. I'd organize an upgrade path for headsets/headphones for gaming like this: GMR -> PC37X -> Hi-Fi headphones.

Hey a question for anyone who has these headphones and GLASSES - how is it? Does it pinch your glasses and ears too? I have cheap logitech headphones. I do 3-6 hour gaming sessions on a regular basis but ive grown tired of the soreness i get the sides of my head where the glasses are pressed down. Also open to other headphone suggestions.
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t use glasses, but from the loose clamping force, I wouldn’t expect it to press too much. Around this price point, I THINK the only options that have like, 100% guaranteed fluffyness that wouldn’t go bad with glasses are the new Razer Krakens. I’ve just got them in house, so review coming next week (probably), but I fully expect to still recommend either the GMR or a mh751 on sound quality over them. Comfort being paramount for you, tho, they MIGHT be the better choice in that aspect ;)

I have these waiting in the box, torn if I'm going to try them or not. I currently use the tak star pro 82 and the cheapo mic that came with the ps4. How would you say the volume levels are on these over all? I know they are only 35 ohms. How about the mic?
@TechHyped
@TechHyped 5 жыл бұрын
Hum.... Not sure how much "louder" the GMR will end up being compared to the pro 82, and comparing mics, I'd say the mic on it will outperform the one from the PS4 there. The Pro 82 is the frame of a couple of other headphones out there in the gaming world, and it's not a perfect starting point, but can be made into excellent sounding headphones... That said, comparing the base pro 82 to the GMR, I personally like the sound signature on the GMR more. Quick question tho, how come you have a GMR just sittin' there, in the box, chilling? Bought it in an impulse? ;D

gabriel wyvern 60-61 fps on a chromebook.... Lost vikings in low res doesn’t count, dude! Hahahaha. Just kidding. You’re right about being “smarter”, but that has to do with preferences and the experience each one of us is going for. If you desperately want to play at 4k60, a chromebook might be a “better deal” in the sense of how much $ you’ll spend, but will never actually get you what you want. And no, nvidia stream play stuff don’t count either, as you’d still need a 4k display at least, so its not “just a chromebook” hahaha
