I learned from experience that I shouldn't take my porta pros out. Idgaf if they look weird, they look unique and pretty to my eyes and they're actually a head turner, but the cable is trash. I ended up pulling on it lots of times and they eventually broke. Just bring some IEMs with you, way more safe, and they isolate sound.

3 years late but i have a question: im really torn between both of these, but do you personally think if you add different pads onto the kph30i's that they get more comfortable? or will that uncomfortableness after 40 minutes stay forever

I've personally never tried other pads on the kph30i. I think they're near perfect the way they are. If the clamp force gets to be a little too much, I just take them off of a good 15 seconds

With the kph30i you could pull on them and give a little stretch. Reduce some of the clamping force so you could wear them longer than 45 min. As for the looks both of those headphones will make people look at you strange. Porta Pro X looks like something cheap and weird from Kmart in the 1980s! I have the original Porta Pro with the blue accents and silver band so I'm always even more embarrassed walking down the street with them on! I actually bought the kph30i recently for better sound and more minimal looks. I got beige like yours figuring on my brown hair it will be less of an eye sore but now you got me thinking about the looks again!

Ehh, maybe HPs in general will just stick out. Really, it's a matter of whether you need to wear HPs during your commute at all. Maybe go with earphones/IEMs if you don't.

@@chuckolatte600 Yes that is best for looks! But for me any IEMs I've tried don't fit my ear perfect. I can get them to work and seal but it usually means I dont like the pressure of the ear tip pushing on my ear inner canal, if I use a smaller size its more comfortable but then I fight with losing seal and them falling out all day. I used ear buds style like the VE Monks that are fatter tips and sit less inside the ear canal and that is good for me but get sore after an hour or so. Personally I like light pressure on-ear headphones better for walking around. Hoping to stretch the kph30i so its clamping less. I like the porta pro fit and with the temple pads it helps with ear pressure. So I'll continue to be that guy with the embarrassing look! lol

Get some Japanese Yaxi Porta Pro ear pads and replace the stock KPH30i ones. They cost almost as much as the KPH30i's but they make them slightly more comfortable than the Porta Pros.

Are they worth the price? Like are they durable enough? I'm on a college budget and don't really feel like spending that much on pads. Might go for ksc75 and pair with the yaxi pads instead

@@agoogleuser9025 I found the KPH30is to get sore on my ears with too much clamp pressure and not enough padding after 2-3 hours. With these pads I never get sore ears even wearing all day. They also add to the soundstage and enhance the sound a noticeable amount to my ears. Not a huge amount but it's there.

Well no, it's not at THAT level either lol. They're great for something you throw in a bag or just use to water your plants/walk outside or something like that. Excellent bang for your buck, no general complaints.

As a porta pro owner for years... I have no idea what other hedphone should I get. I am just listening on pc from e10k and on ps4 via controller jack so I am limited to low impedance like porta pro... But is there even a point looking for anything else no matter the price?!... I also know that I like fun warm relaxing sound that is also good for games and movies... So porta pro

its a flat frequency response and you may be refering to lossless audio formats which have little compression, all audio has all audible frequencies

You can adjust the headband of the KPH30i to make it more comfortable- worked for me. Also, there are two or three other colors of this headphone. I cannot wear the Portapro because I am bald and the metal headband is not comfortable on my head

I'm bald too brother but the porta pros don't bother me much. I tighten up the the headband to where the pressure is more on the temples than the headband. Sound quality of the kph30i is still better and it's more comfortable imo.

Thank god I got the dark grey version of the kph as I prefer a more balance and cleaner sound these days. i also have the original portapros they sound deep and muddy you miss out on a whole lot of detail in all your music

Unclip the Porta Pro drivers off if its stock headband. Buy that $3 headphone from Parts Express, unclip its drivers and toss it in the bin. Clip Porta Pro drivers onto the Parts Express headband. Sure, they're going to look ugly as sin but that resolves the comfort issue with the Porta Pros. Its gotten to the point where you'll forget you were wearing them.

Haha, I'll give you the review in three words. These headphones are not proper for street use. What you want for street use is a Jaybird or a JBL in ear. They are cheap and sound massively better than any Koss. What the Porta Pro have for them is the sound is fuzzier and less precise than the KPH30i. Also they are more tolerable to use. But the headband grabs your hair and they move on your head. Basically, they are not great and there are many more recent sets that work a lot better. From Sony, AKG, JBL and others. But if you must have the Porta Pros, get t he Sport version. It is the same sound but with a much better headband. The KPH30i are a piece of junk. The reviewer is right to say that they become unwearable after 30 or 40 minutes. The mids are too loud and there is no level of sound where you can get both the details they are touted for and an acceptable level of sound. Avoid.
