I have some of these. They have the soundstage of an open-back headphone but with more bass. They are excellent for gaming as they have a very realistic soundstage. I also like the stock Koss sound, though they are somewhat crispy and uneven on the high end, overall the sound is warm.

So I ended up screwing up my pair of UR40's with a mod when I originally tried to mod them a while back. Afterwards, out of complete frustration, I put them aside for another attempt at another time. Well a few months pass, then my KPH30i's headband busted on me like they usually do, so I ended up removing the drivers from out of them and then replaced the drivers from the UR40 with these ones from my KPH30i. They sound great, a bit sibilant but I had a spare right and left printed dampening pads that I stuck them on and voila.....A truly awesome sounding Frankenstein modded versions of a pair of Koss UR40's with KPH30i drivers. They sound so good I have ordered the Shure 1540 pads to complete my mod. Can't wait to feel those nice looking and soft pads on my ears!

They're just OK- probably the least best of Koss's 60 ohm headphones. The KPH30i's are better, but a totally different kind of headphone, even if the sound is similar. But the UR-40's have a harsh, sibilant edge to them. And there's not much in the way of EQ's out there on the web for them (if you are into EqualizerAPO and HeSuVi, which you should be if you like headphones on the PC). I wish Koss's cheaper headphones got some luv from the head-fi community, because some of them are really good deals.

Z I ordered the KPH30i. The only pads I saw on Amazon were the stock replacement pads. Do you have a pad recommendation for this headphone? BTW I love you and my wife doesn’t....lol...this is like the 10th thing I have purchased after watching your reviews. She does not understand having 3 amps and 10 different headphones. Just so you know I have 6 sets of speakers in my storage room I don’t use, some are 20+ years old. Long time audiophile. Always looking for the better sounding thing. So you didn’t cause this problem. Interesting the only component that has survived is my Basis turntable. It’s 20 yrs old and I use it almost every day. Dozens of cartridges mounted to it. I have considered upgrading it many times, but I would need to spend 3-5K to actually ‘upgrade’ it, so I don’t. Keep it up. You do a great job!

@@lumntoob999 I have the 2001 model. Great table. I should upgrade the arm only, but not confident I could set it up properly and therefore be right were I am today, only with less money. To truly upgrade it I would need to spend 5k on a VPI or equivalent.
@lumntoob9995 жыл бұрын
@@CWChandler1968 that's a really nice table man. I agree with your thinking to, why upgrade the arm when your unsure of the end result and not confident in doing it. Are they better than Samson SR850? My SR850 is breaking apart after 3 years of use, all the plastic thingies have broken around screwholes, so I'm looking for a comfortable open-back replacement. I'd like headphones that I can use when working from home all day long and also enjoy movies and music after work. So, maybe not necessarily open-back but something that doesn't isolate me and doesn't make my ears feel hot and sweaty. It's sad to see how few decent open-back headphones there are under 100$. Ten years ago I had open-back Beyerdynamics for about 50$ but now there are no such models.

Dare you to mod them for balanced
@lumntoob9995 жыл бұрын
It would be much simpler then you think unless you also want a removable cable. If you don't care about removable all you have to do is cut the stock 3.5 end off and there will be 4 wires inside ready to solder on an xlr or 4.4 etc. Most people don't realize this but when a headphone has a wire going into both earcups they are ready for balanced, there is a positive and ground going to each driver but at the plug end the two grounds are joined to the one ground point on the 3.5 or 6.3 plug end.
