Easy? Cutting that channel with a jewelers saw would have been the biggest test of my patience...
@johnparsons90842 жыл бұрын
Was just going to comment on that. Picking up the jewelers saw at the start of that cut....that channel must have seemed like the Grand Canyon. Doing the whole thing without a mill....just remarkable. Lad has skills. Michelangelo with an angle grinder.

@@MrParker_1 Yeah, at first I was surprised he didn't use an endmill there, but then I realized his mill might not have motorized CNC axes. I can't imagine how long that took.

Nice design! Can imagine a spring loaded ball-bearing with a indention closed and fully open would give a nice tactile feedback if implemented. Not that I would have the knowledge to achieve it my self but a master craftsman as you could probably pull it off... ;)

Was thinking the same thing. A detent on the back-right corner and some knurling on the surface.
@BenjaminSteber2 жыл бұрын
As nice as this design is, it would want it to have a locking mechanism. Even a minimal indent catch at the base of the knife would make the blade more sturdy in the hand.
@infinimetrical Жыл бұрын
I can see this as well. One for opened and closed. It would help with safety. Could likely put one or two at the base of the handle that activates by pressure of the thumb for opening and closing, it can be housed behind the brass cuff held down by pins, and blocked by the framing. Another way, and initially crossed my mind is around the swivel assembly. Small, but strong spring and stainless steel pin that resides and works copacetically with the slide. Pinning to the frame only enough to hold it in place without completely locking it. The pin concept could also be used with the first model. Strong magnets are a potential, however, magnets can lose their energy through time, and sometimes are not good for certain areas or work. In other cases, magnets are also great for survival situations. Adding more brain tools in everything carried.
Absolutely love all of your designs. I find your videos a freshing rechange from constantly seeing these huge knives that I would never personally carry. Keep up the good work 👍

simply fantastic work, a truly great custom knife. i do have two suggestions though for any future iterations of similar knives, though keep in mind these are coming from a guy who doesn't make knives but does use them for multiple hours a day while at work and has been at the sharp end of a broken knife more times than id care to admit. 1) the scales of the knife are fantastic, clean and simple, and no doubt strong, but that super clean finish would seem to make the knife hard to open and close with one hand, some simple texturing on one or both scales would do wonders for being able to manipulate the action of the knife. something as simple as a divot for a finger to rest in as you rotate the blade in or out. 2) there's no lock on this knife, which worries me slightly. as is, when open it appears the blade can be nearly closed on the fingers if pressure is put on the backside of the blade, now that shouldn't be an issue with a firm grip but the one instance where i see that being a problem is in a slip. of there were a simple cam or slide lock at the base of the knife to really hold the scales together and prevent them from splaying apart in the hand then that would improve on the safety of the knife. those aside, great job. its content like this that really makes me want to get into metalworking of any kind.
@nikolaihedler88832 жыл бұрын
Regarding (2): It actually can't be closed without flipping the front scale all the way around, as the pin from the front scale acts as a stop. I have a hard time believing that this design could be safely operated one-handed even with texture, though, because you'd have a hard time holding the non-moving scale.
