Now that's fantastic. You used a lot of processes there. Now as the handle locks it into position, is this called a locking knife and if so which category does it go in?
@Koss-channelАй бұрын
I'm unsure if this locking mechanism has a specific name. It's a new design I came up with, but I have a feeling I've seen something like it somewhere.

@@Koss-channel only thing I can think it's closest to would be a butterfly type. It's really clever, especially how you have the two indents.

@@Koss-channelI personally think it’s closer to a gravity knife similar to the ones Reate makes just a bit stiffer. But overall its really cool
@James-g3w7wАй бұрын
@@Koss-channelFrom the right materials this turns a lock blade into a folding knife with fixed blade strength. Not only knives but saws and chisels. Would like to see a curved skinning/butcher blade, when open the handle would be in reverse curvature making it a great chopper, with a six inch blade that's the perfect bush crafter or military pilot survival kit knife. Are you familiar with the JOE X destruction test videos? This might be the only design that can survive one of those.

This is a unique video in several ways. The copper rectangular tubing being used as the scales and frame to anchor the blade was the leader. All of the operations were performed in a very nice manner. At this point I would like to interject a few suggestions in the interest of safety for you and any of your viewers. The first and potentially most dangerous is the use of gloves around machinery of any type. If a glove is grabbed by along spiraled chip, it will not want to turn your glove and what it contains easily. Your small equipment is unlikely to kill you, but this is the place to develop good safety habits that will protect you and those around you. I will use a pair of gloves to carry glass, sheet metal, or heavy plate with a rough sawed edge. The chuck key left in the lathe chuck, could kill a person or damage the machine tool. I saw a guy come within a couple inches (51mm) of getting one stuck in his head. I was right next to him with a too close view of the show. The last issue is the failure to lower the bandsaw blade guide down to keep a finger or hand from being amputated or cut deeply enough that it will never work like it did the day before. The reason for the observations, comes from working in tool rooms after starting out in a shop with lots of machines with 30-60 hp spindle motors. It can happen quickly. Yes, I have gotten stitched up a few times, but I learned something from each experience. I am trying to help the people who are watching this video from learning with your blood and time. The internet has quite a selection of gruesome during and after videos and still photos. Work safe and enjoy what you are learning here.

Excellent work, but wearing gloves in a machine shop is really unsafe practice.
@dinho890i22 күн бұрын
What,why?
@Boreascorax22 күн бұрын
@@dinho890i Because of the danger of a glove get caught by either a rotating cutter or workpiece. The same holds true for jewelry such as rings, long hair, loose long sleeves, etc. This was one of the first things I learned in trade school when I entered the Tool & Die trade. Bear in mind that even a small metal lathe is powerful enough to twist a person's body in knots without even slowing down. There are of course exceptions such as when handling materials, but the gloves come off before the machinery starts turning.
