If you are still wondering what the healing items are in the Japanese version, the cola is a Peloriemate (hmmm...sound familiar, like maybe something you saw in Phantasy Star 4 perhaps?) and the burger is Ruoginin (although I prefer to say Luoginin instead).

i remember playing this game was the moment where i really started appreciating the pure perfection of dragon quest's math. this game is still really cool and unique, especially if you might be the person who likes old-school first person dungeons and the aesthetics that came from it. yeah, it's not as good as IV, but it doesn't make you feel like you just got a bunch of your teeth pulled out (i'd say that's an ok impression of what playing III feels like). also, IV is definitely better than II. the biggest achievement of the latter is its music (i have "pressure" playing in my head on the regular).

I used to love Phantasy Star, I couldn't even begin to calculate the amount of hours I put into PSO. But the situation with PSO2 in the west has completely ruined it for me, both with the franchise and with SEGA. I know it's an old topic, but the way they left us wanting and the way they handled it has left a bitter taste in my mouth to say the least.

If I'm a huge fan of PSO but have never played a traditional Phantasy Star, think I'd get anything out of playing 4? Lookin' for a new JRPG for Switch.
@DeltathRiylaan6 жыл бұрын
To be honest, no. Most fans of Phantasy Star hate PSO, because it's basically not at all like Phantasy Star. Even the setting isn't really that similar. Here's the real question.. do you like old school turn based RPGs like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy on the NES or SNES? If yes, you might like it. Then again, the Sega Genesis Collection on Switch has like 54 games. So if you like Sonic or Golden Axe or Shining Force, then it's worth it anyway. It's $30 for a lot of games and Phantasy Star 2, 3 and 4 are all on it.

First thing you should do is go into that dungeon at the top right of the screen to get some money, then buy the cheapest shield. That starts you off. Just go back & forth just outside the structure of the main city area and fight weak bugs & scorpions, then once you get enough $ buy the cheapest sword from that other town, then you'll be strong enough to venture to Scion to buy the secret roadpass to get thru the checkpoint to the spaceport, which the game is VERY cryptic in that it doesn't tell you how to buy it...

Phantasy Star III may not look like a PS at start, but the story is there, and it is part of the series (4th game chronologically). It's a shame Sega never cared to translate the D3 remakes, not even finish the trilogy, but at least 1 and 2 were remade and made easy to look at and play. PSO2 Arc Ships just make me remember PSIII so much I always wish for a modern remake.

Oh and Easy Mode does NOT make random battles less frequent. It does give you a LOT more money and experience. You simply need to know where to go and what to buy. It's a game that takes exploration and experimentation to know what to do.

@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
Lol I will agree that for a beginner without a guide, it is VERY difficult to find your way. The combat tho is not near as hard as you make it out to be. Perhaps you need a lesson on proper old school RPG strategy as I never had any problem at all with the combat, the problem is more trying to find your way thru the huge dungeons that in the original had no map screen. I will say that the included Map in this game is EXTREMELY helpful! You really don't need anything else. Original mode is just fine with the map as that's really all you need to get u thru the game.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
Once again, the quicksave is NOT new. That is just how you save even in the original game. LOL and if you think that took a million years, play on normal mode. It takes 10x as long.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
LOL imagine playing an RPG and the guy doesn't want to fight anything. You are 110% playing the wrong game in that case bud! You simply cannot just advance the plot. This game does not work that way. And no, you can't go to damn Medusas cave yet! You have to fly to the other planet to get the cat, which you get by trading the Laconian Pot for it.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
You should NOT have FM sound on. The original PSG sound is actually better in this game. Just sayin'.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
Once you get the Cat and Odin then the game really starts to open up to you. And no, things are not quite this convoluted later on. You do still have to figure out where to go tho which for a new player isn't that easy. The combat tho for anyone with a brain should not be that hard. It's really not. The combat is literally the easiest part of this game. Navigating the game is the hard part. That might scare some of the dumbasses trying to play this that can't strategize or don't know how to buy things. Buy the best weapons and armor you can and you'll have zero problems with the combat.
@skins4thewin4 жыл бұрын
Lol you are venturing WAY too far from town for early on bud. You really don't know anything about this game do you? I can't believe you didn't even know to go to that cave in the starting city to get 50 Mesetas right off the bat, which is enough to get your first shield.
