The issue with battle rap is the top of the top battle rappers realize how low the ceiling is in this form of entertainment and bail out. Dumbfoundead, Eminem, Soul. And a lot of the top writers like Fresco don't really have much to prove so you have a lot of people emulating styles of the people that aren't even around anymore.

Eminem lost to Juice and with his first album not doing well (Infinite) he damn near gave up all rap. Luckily Dre found him. Low ceiling isn't the reason Eminem left. His sound wasn't developed enough to get the attention he deserved. Once that sound came out Dre found him and the rest was history.
