My favorite bit of KOTOR combat is missing every single one of my melee strikes for the first 6 hours of the game.

If you have that problem early game, unequip your offhand weapon and don't use abilities like power attack or flurry. All of that reduces accuracy greatly, especially early game. Yes, that will greatly reduce your theoretical maximum damage, but theoretical maximum doesn't matter if you can't actually land a hit. Between dual wielding and flurry, I think flurry would be the best first thing to add back in as your accuracy starts to improve, because it has a smaller accuracy penalty.

@@mikelombard21 Woops 😂 I am no grammar nazi. i just commented on something I noticed. Not sure why you got emotional enough about it to try and diss me; but I probably had to be there to get it, right?

Great tutorial: many thanks. Quick question: you mentioned that fighters and guardians start with damage equal to their level, while everyone else is equal to 75% of their level. If I start off as a fighter, and then opt to become a Sentinel Jedi; do I lose that full damage and drop to 75%, or do I retain the fighter benefits?

So what he is talking about here is Base Attack Bonus (BAB) progression. Attack Bonus (or Attack) is basically accuracy, added to an attack roll to determine whether an attack hits the opponent or not. It's technically not damage, as there is a separate damage roll after a successful attack. To my recollection, the bonuses you get from a particular class stay with the character forever. So if you "spend" some of your character's levels on a high BAB progression class and some of the other levels on a lower BAB progression class, you will have less total BAB at maximum level than a character who only has levels in high BAB progression classes. The chart he shows in the video at 2:08 is a little different from BAB progression charts you might see for other games. Instead of saying that a class has "slow" progression and has BAB equal to 3/4 class level, other games' wikis might show a big grid where classes are rows and levels are columns. Then if that class gains a BAB of +1 at that particular level, that grid of the table shows +1 while levels that don't increase BAB will just show 0. So for all the "slow" BAB progression classes in KOTOR, they would gain +1 BAB at class levels 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20. There are 5 specific class levels where they don't gain BAB. This is where the "3/4 of level" idea is coming from. I will say it's not strictly necessary to min-max your builds in either KOTOR game. If it's something you enjoy, go for it! But as long as you make reasonably sensible decisions with attributes, skills, feats, force powers, gear, etc then having a little bit more or less stats in any particular area isn't going to be end of the world. It's certainly possible to gimp your characters if you go totally off the rails. The extreme end of that might be that you really struggle to complete certain parts of the game. But I think the average player will be totally fine especially if they're doing a little reading ahead of time.

mastery flurry and rapid shot dont have any accuracy penalties. they are just the normal attack with an additional strike
