One of my all time faves, nothing quite like it. I miss that heavily experimental phase in RPGs where people were trying really weird ideas (Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, and Koudelka).
@StilesReviews2 жыл бұрын
I too miss the more experimental phase of RPGs... and games in general really. Thankfully Indies are sort of leading the way, but long gone are the days where bigger studios are willing to take risks on interesting game ideas.

Would you add Vagrant Story to that list of weirder, more experimental games? I've heard it recommended often, but I've yet to play it. I loved Xenogears, though. What an amazingly dark and beautiful game and story.
@StilesReviews2 жыл бұрын
@@nyckelhypa I remember my exact thoughts playing Vagrant Story were 'This game is an artistic masterpiece... I hate playing it." That was a decade ago now though and I can't wait to give it another shot. I also am ashamed to admit that I think I left it unfinished, so my opinion on that one isn't worth much.

It's pronounced "Koo-del-kaa" haha But regardless, great review dude, was entertaining all the way through! I love this game very much, it's one of my favorites on the PS1 despite some of its issues. (analog movement but no analog support?! Tank controls actually worked better on the dpad imo, as you said in a different way :P ) And it looks absolutely beautiful on a high quality CRT TV. I really wanna give this a review myself one of these days.

Well, here I am on a Saturday evening, missing parts of the Man City - Brighton game in The English Premier League to watch a Stiles video 😄 It's worth it though, as you've crafted another in-depth analysis that proves reviewing things on the internet has become a legitimate artform and you're the Michalangelo of it. Not sure why I'm comparing you to a mutated turtle from a cartoon, but it's too late now. Seriously though, a fantastic review once again. I'll share it in appropriate Discord gaming servers and hopefully send some more traffic your way. Cheers!

Pffft you didn't have to do that, my video would've still been around afterwards. And can't I be Donatello!? More reach with that weapon xD Thank you very much for watching and for the compliments, and thank you even more than that for sharing it around.
@nyckelhypa2 жыл бұрын
@@StilesReviews I guess you can be Donatello :D Though I'd like to be Donatello, he's my favorite based on both TMNT Shredder's Revenge and that old NES (or was it SNES) game where his special move was biting the opponent in the f***ing face LMAO.

Haha it could be a while. May be next years Halloween game. They look fun, but I legitimately know nothing about them outside of their setting and the attack ring.

The Shadow Hearts games, from what I understand from an article I read a few years ago, are loosely related to Koudelka, as in they are supposedly set in an alternate universe from Koudelka.

I know it's cliche to tell people 'you need more subs' but you really do! Your videos are great. I wonder if the furry art throws people off?

I don't know, I've seen a lot of people be successful with animal avatars. I'm guessing a huge part is my lack of consistent uploads... that's my hope anyway. Gonna try to remedy that.

oh Koudelka :) bought this on a flee market and was quite happy and suprised that it has german text AND voice acting... and the voices were actually good (kinda better than in english tbh since our James sounded older than the english one which makes sense since he IS older) of course i got the bad ending since... well... yeah didn't found the item

That is really cool that it had a German dub as well, I didn't know that. Thank you for watching and commenting!

do check out those shadow hearts games. the first game is great and still tries to do the horror themed RPG thing, and covenant is probably one of the best RPGs on the ps2.

are you using one of those ps1 HDMI cables from pound? those things are notorious for producing a very dark picture. my rgb captures don't seem to have that brightness issue.

S-Video Through a Retrotink to my tv through HDMI. Weirdly on youtube it isn't looking as dark. I swear I messed with the settings on the TVs a lot. I don't know man.. Technology is a pain sometimes... especially when you are inept like I am.
@AvalancheReviews2 жыл бұрын
@@StilesReviews Hmmm interesting. Might just be the cable. If it bothers you too much, I think official sony svideo cables are still relatively cheap on ebay. That is, if you aren't already using one. I remember having a similar issue with my 64's svideo and the tink 5x. RE2 was crazy dark, but then I snagged a different no name cable and it improved.

Spoiler: --------------- --------------- --------------- --------------- You can still get koudelkas Pendant if you forgot to Pick it up there is a save point or water fountain right before the area you meet elaines body if you step on it and you don't have the Pendant a battle with the boss music against a cat starts and you get the Pendant as a reward. If you have it it's a normal save point tho

Yeah I read about this but couldn't find a good place to put it in the review. It's also why I didn't say that the endings were permanently missable. Still good to know for those who may want to try the game for themselves though.

tip for your next review, use footage from psx emulator, unless you can rip directly the best quality from psx hardware, you are using the lowest and darkest quality footage i ever seen
@StilesReviews2 жыл бұрын
That is factually not true. Im using footage through svideo upscaled using a retrotink to 1080p. Im getting almost the best quality possible through real hardware (outside of using an upscaler thst can get it to 4k) Im fine with emulation, use it a lot for consoles older than psone, but try to use real hardware when possible. I appreciate the view and attempt at advice, but you are wrong in this case
