I have the r-121sw. It’s a pretty great sub. I picked it up for $300 brand new and just got a second one for the same price. Not that I needed the second because 1 was plenty but I watch a lot of movies so I wanted a more balanced sound. They definitely don’t disappoint and don’t run out of steam.

I have 2 Klipsch R-12SW in my basement. I think they sound phenomenal. The bass pumps out of them. I have one in the front right side and one in back left side. It took some moving around to get just the right sound and now its incredible. I bought the Klipsch speaker pack without subwoofer from Costco. Initially I purchase 1 subwoofer but I felt that a single sub was not enough for me. I ended up getting another and that did the trick.

I bought that model from Costco a year ago for $149.00 / I did not have the same experience as others here. Took it back within 2 days - port chuffing was horrendous for me. But for $149.00, I guess if the budget's tight some will be happy

I actually won an SPL-150 and at the time had an SVS PB-1000. The SVS could dig about as deep but had no where near the output of the 15” Klipsch. Granted it is twice the price. I added an OSD DSP module to flatten out the response. It does roll off fast below 19-20 hz. In my 1200 cubic foot theater I keep volume know at about 40-45%. Anything more and stuff starts to fall off the walls😂. Would I have bought this sub, probably not. Am I happy with it YEP!

Retired music lover here. My system consists of a receiver, a CD player, a turntable, a pair of the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer bookshelf speakers---which I love---and a Klipsch r-120sw sub, which I am ambivalent about. My musical tastes require a subwoofer that excells from about 30 herz up to where the bass rolls off on the little Pioneers---the range where most real bass exists in music. The Klipsch sub does this reasonably well. I am well aware of this subs deficiencies: unbraced, thin cabinet walls; an underpowered amp; and a cheap driver. But I paid $250 for this sub new, and until the likes of SVS, HSU, etc. can bring to market a subwoofer at or near this price, and that is demonstrably better, I will have to be satisfied with my r-120sw. Actually, I am grateful thus product exists. While I realize that the main point of this video is that Klipsch doesn't make subwoofers that produce true subatomic bass, one cannot totally dismiss the merits of their current lineup of subwoofers. I look forward to your observations about their new subs. Thank you for your informative and entertaining videos.

There's more than just how low a sub goes, at least for some of us. Case in point, I much prefer my sealed 12" SVS sub over than the rear ported JBL12" sub that I previously owned, even though the JBL seemed to go a bit lower. I prefer something that extends the range of my bookshelf speakers (Jamo C103, which actually have pretty good bass), but more than going super-low, I want a tighter, more accurate bass sound. The SVS seems to be faster reacting so that the bass is clear and easier to pick out and with stuff like upright bass, I can hear the acoustical qualities more (greater realism). The JBL, might have been slightly better for stuff like action movies with lots of special effects, but even though I have my TV hooked up to my audio system, it's still music that's far more important to me. With really heavy bass music too, the JBL could start to get muddy sounding above a certain volume level, whereas the SVS sounds more musical at any volume...

If you favour music over movies you should try a Rel subwoofer or two, their drivers move so fast that the sub can share the same signal with the stereos! (High level input) that's what you call a real musical sub! They're provide perfect extension to allow my Sonus Faber standmount speakers play full-range.

I have an entry level Klipsch 5.1.2 setup I bought on a Black Friday deal Christmas 2016. It’s a giant leap in performance from my theater in a box I’ve had since 2003 and it’s still going strong. The R-12SW was too big for my room for many years, the R-26 towers were good enough for relatively near field listening. Used an Onkyo NR656 to power it all and again, it worked for me in my situation. I just upgraded to a Pioneer 505 and am looking forward to setting it up when I get home for Christmas break.

Totally agree with you and I own Klipsch speakers. They shouldn't call them sub woofers. They're more like bass modules. But to be fair you should get two since that's the desired set up for home theater.

I bought an old flagship RSW10 (this sub is like 20 years old now) off of a guy a few weeks ago. That thing is ridiculous and doesn’t struggle at all. The R-100SW I previously had doesn’t hold a candle to the sound quality or output the RSW has. Granted the RSW back in its heyday was around $1300 and pushes 1,150 watts compared to the R-100SW. Then again, the RSW has more power than even their top tier subs. So idk if it’s also a quality issue or what. This could also be one of those “they don’t make things like they used to” situations.

I grabbed a couple of the R12SW subs for my dedicated room for the winter while I work on my Dayton Ultimax's. I got them from Costco for under 160 bux for each. I do have them on a mini DSP and they are positioned behind my acoustically transparent screen (I have 2 small yamaha subs behind my couch for a bit of fill and buttshakerness). The volume is set to a little more than half on each woofer. After calibration I really dont have anything negative to say about them, especially for the price. Even at reference level they dont bottom out and do great for 90-95% of a movies soundtrack. A guy in my area home theater club brought his meters and they tested right at 27hz. I am definitely happy Im building the Ultimax subs to get into those teen level hz numbers but for the average to slightly above average HT enthusiast I think Klipsch are just fine, not incredible, but perfectly acceptable. SIDE NOTE, I dont use my HT setup for music so your experiences with that model sub may be way different. I'm kind of indifferent to the idea of Klipsch making more heavy duty subs. Theres so many other options out there that I kinda dont care.

I’m not going to disagree with anything you guys say but I found that if you are going to use Kilpsch or any other product you are going to need to dial them in and to do that you will need a mini dsp or something like that and at lease 2 subs 3 is better for the best responsive bass that you can get for the price of 4 Kilpsch R12s was less than 1 of those high end subs and if you’re going to get the best out of any sub you will need to put the work in. Also if you have a tight budget you can get better sound out 4 then you can get out of 1 and some cases even 2 all about placement and dialing in the proper range for your room .

I found out how good it sounded so I bought another so I can have 2 Polk Audio powered subs in my Dolby Atmos system along with my 8k Denon amp. Best choice I've made. I don't regret it one bit. Nice deep tones when 2 subs are used and you don't have to use nearly the power that you have to with one sub. Great investment. My first home theater subs were a pair of Klpsch SPL-120's which is stubbornly bought against recommendation on the forums. Since then I've had a number of different subs: pair of HSU Research, Dayton Ultimax, Definitive technology, SVS PB 16's, and Stereo Integrity. The Klipsch were easily the worst except for the little def tech sub, but thats not to say they are bad subs. They do sound really good. They have a nice tone, and I really like them for music. There just are better options for the money especially if you prioritize things like impact and extension. Also , all the Klipsch Subs below the SPL line are budget subs. They are always sold for less than their "MSRP" and for the prices sold I would think they are decent little budget subs. Granted they sell a ton bc people who dont know any better see "Klipsch" and think it's high end, but still they may not be horrible buys for the money. Lastly, they do have a new line of subs coming out soon. The flagship is a 16" driver in a really big box. Could be a step in the right direction. Either way, they aren't really known for their subwoofers and they know that. They seem to try put out a competent sub to finish their system's as well as some budget options and leave the serious subs to others.

When the do make a great sub in the past they asked a lot of money for them. I'm sure they were getting beat out by less expensive models and stopped production because of it. They have the knowledge and the steady hands to pull off a processor like that though.

I have 2 Klipsch R-12SW 12 inch subs in my bedroom and they rock !! I have 2 PB-2000 SVS and 2 SB-1000 subs in my living room that are definitely better than the klipsch. The only thing is that I have to turn up the sub level in my Denon X3800H avr in order to get the thumping bass that I like.

I have 4 Klipsch R12w subs in my setup and they are great for running a home theater in a open concept room and a solid 15 to 20 hz using a mini dsp just as long as you are putting the work in to dial them in correctly and that takes time but you can get a good low response but not in a range below 15 and I had bring my subs up to 20hz because I was rattling the house next door on either side because they could hear the bass coming from my room. So are they the best no they are not are my Polk 10s subs better than the Kilpsch R12s at this time no they are not only because of the output is only 50 watts and 200 watts for the Kilpsch and like any plate amp if you are going to over drive them they are not going to last.

I bought - and bought back a Klipsch sub - would never touch one again. Port chuffing was horrendous. Too many much better competitors out there - you named many / and I agree. RSL makes probably the best sub $500.00 10" sub on the market. Emotiva subs are made of thick HDF - not MDF baffles and around 1" thick. And have serious kick below 20 Hz. I don't like their speakers either / if you're into that horn loaded "V" curve sound, have at it. Not for me - tweeters always sound harsh to me, and they don't take kindly to EQ.

I've had a couple of their subs, and both the bash amps went bad, the new ones aren't good, look good, but mine had alot of port noise also. Emotiva as well, a buddy had 2, both amps went bad quickly, powered isn't the way to go, passive is, buy or build a passive and add a big crown xls-1502/2502 etc. and call it a day and will last much longer and much more versatile. I do love the Klipsch heritage line though, fortes are incredible, just not a fan of the subs.

@@Kpaceguy Not @ all I do believe it is the amplifier, spoke with Crutchfield this morning they gave me a decision to make they said they would send out to RP 1200 or I would have to wait up to 3 weeks for them to get the RP 1600s back in stock at that time they would switch it out free of charge that's pretty much where I stand I'm kind of scared either way but I can't say at least Crutchfield is standing behind their product.

The new RP subs getting ready to come out are incredible. You will not be disappointed. Was listening to the sound tests the other day in the Head quarters and they POUND, dig deep, and are extremely detailed. They provide more power as well. They are worthy of the reference premiere name.

Because they know the power of advertising on social media and I don't Hate them at all. I tell it like it is with every brand. If they stand behind their product and it's a good product, they'll be confident and I'll admit that it's good. Or vice versa.

People buy Klipsch because of the unique copper colored woofer and it sounds ok (not the best). They are almost never the best bang for your buck. but good enough for some to justify the pretty woofer. If they actually made a better subwoofer they would way overprice it. Lastly, I bet if they started manufacturing better components, at a better price, with black woofers.... nobody would buy it.
