I feel like a lot of visual members often lack vivid facial expressions precisely because they're so pretty that they got so much pass for being visually pleasing despite not doing much while performing. There are exceptions like Wonyoung and Yoona of course. But unlike other members who get "in the zone" with the music and choreography in order to deliver a good performance, some visual members didn't need the same drive because people always baby them and praise them for doing the bare minimum prettily. And so when other members grow and mature as performers and develop more charm. They're stuck in the same place as before because they didn't have the need to grow like the others.

Being an introvert does not excuse you for performing charismatically in the stage tho. There are a lot of introverted female & male idols who are fire on stage. Stage presence equate to having expressions that naturally flows along your performance and being able to engage audiences. Well, Mina is a ballerina. She was trained like that for a good majority of her life, and ballerina's don't really make too many facial expressions while performing. I think this is why she's so elegant and why she doesn't really change her expression. Not only that, but I think she's a bit... shy? anxious? not confident? introverted? a bit too chillaxed? I think her personality really *shows* in her performances. But I honestly, I think her elegant adds a bit of nice diversity to Twice's performances.
@nameless98512 жыл бұрын
Mina is so painful to look at. I know that she has anxiety and that's probably the reason why she's so uncomfortable and empty on stage. I bet she's a perfectionist, therefore, at times, she just tries to rock the coreo in a precise way - and not really enjoying the performance. Their latest concert series is a pure joy by the way. Maybe the front cameras bother her that much? Some people are like that (including me lol), performing just does not come naturally as we are thinkers and not doers.

tbf twice’s vocals arent great in general (their vocal trainer sucks to the point that some of the members dont go to them), so twice isnt rly a vocal oriented group. Like most JYP groups, twice are performance oriented, not specifically towards dance (the members are decent, and mina is 2nd best out of the group), but towards stage presence. Mina is a vital member to the group’s overall presence, as she, dahyun, and jeongyeon, add softness to the group. They balance well with the rest of the group’s boisterous presence.

Is it just me? I feel like often the girls that get so much praise for their visuals start to turn stiff over time. It’s just a thought I had, and by no means an excuse, but I feel the pressure that comes within getting constantly praised for your visuals only, can often lead to idols feeling like they always have to look absolutely flawless, not allowing themselves diverse facial expressions (maybe even feeling anxiety) they could be looked at as ‘not so pretty’ anymore if they would just give a damn and live their life on stage. I am just thinking of 2 examples, Krystal and Mina, both got anxiety, both got looked upon of not showing much facial expressions. Tzuyu also seems like she lost more and more confidence in herself and truly accepted her role of just being a pretty doll, which is sad because I feel if there wasn’t this constant, visual pressure, she may would feel more free to showcase her actual talents and losen up a bit. I am not saying every idol who suffers anxiety is that way, but I do feel it could make sense. Having anxiety, can make you feel awkward about showing facial expressions, or expressing anything at that point.

And sadly haters usually don't comment much, it's mostly fan they are like we are not haters or hating her but she is cringe, creepy, weird, pick me etc isn't that word are used by the haters.. they can dislike their way but don't dislike idols even tough they are idols but they are humans too like us and no one can be perfect at everything

That Step Back song would make anyone have a bad facial expression! And Mina’s dance skill was very sexy and fluid on her 132 fancam, where she clearly outshined the other members.

Lol the delusion in this comment is crazy. Boa in step back has amazing facials expressions. Mina dance skills are not sexy nor fluide, and nothing compared to momo or jihyo.

Idk why but I think Mina is like me. It's not that I got no expression but I overthink a lot so I'm scared to show expression bcs I think that it'll be too much and people will judge me for that. Also my personality is 90% introvert, so maybe that's one of the reasons why I'm so scared of the world lol

Idk why people keep mentioning mina, shuhua and tzuyu when there are worse idols with sp? Mina has normal sp that matches twices songs if you watch her fancams, shuhua has improved sm and i believed tzuyu had no sp too but after watching her fancams theres something theres she doesnt just have a blank face.😒

I can't stand idol being acted like over-cuteness or changing many expressions like creeply cause It's so cringe for me to watch. At least these 5 idols doesn't make me cringe at all but i think they just need to relax and have more fun on stage.

(JUST BEFORE U READ THIS I AM A ONCE AND TWICE IS MY ULT) Mina was literally a ballerina for 11 years before she trained to became an idol. Even though she does lack power, but she is sharp and clean and she is also up to the tempo of some fast twice songs. She is the second best dancer for a reason, she dances soft and elegantly and she even recalls old dances like tt or cheer up. Her facial expressions are cold, fierce and sharp and i can get why people complain as of lack of emotion but that is literally her signature moves. ALSO people say her dancing is stiff and soft bruh she was a ballerina before being in twice so she probably has tendencies to do things because she is switching dance styles so drastically. As for Tzuyu, in my opinion she lacks sharpness and power in some of her moves, in yes or yes she looks so awkward and forced? I don't know how to explain but when she does that move where they swing their arms behind her head, she just looks so stiff and also I notice that she bends her leg too much as well, could possibly bc that she's forced to bend to fit with other members heights?👀 But on the bright side, her facial expression isn't that bad, its certainly not the best in twice but sometimes i just catch myself staring at her and replying the clip of her dancing in Dtna because her smile is so sweet. Both members have shown so much improvements since debut.💜💜🍭🍭

Honestly I still wonder what is shuhua's role in g-idle. She always just there. Nothing else. It is not like she is the only foreigner to ever be in kpop and korean isn't actually that hard to learn especially when she has been living in korea for 4 years+ trainee years? Very bizzare.

Mina overall is just very… bland and boring compared to other idols. Yea her voice is ok but other than that, there’s nothing overly special about her. She’s definitely the most “meh” person in twice and 2nd gen female idols

In defense of Hyewon, there are a lot of factors: first of all, 8D (the company she came from as a trainee in PD48) focused more on actors rather than idols, so that’s a first reason for her lack of skill. Secondly, she wasn’t a trainee for a long time and yes, many other idols are in her same situation as well, but not everyone was born with dancing talents and many people have to build this ability from scratch, starting at the bottom of the barrel. Thirdly, I think that Hyewon is also a shy girl who isn’t as confident as others, so trying to focus on being in perfect sync and executing every move perfectly has an effect on your expression, because when you focus you usually get a blank face. She did improve her skills, slowly but surely, and I think that with some more training her idol dancing skills will become even better if she decides to keep going through that path. Stay strong Kwangbae!❤️✨👑

It's always funny to hear netizens say things about these Idols. But in reality, the idols are doing just fine, especially the ones that have been in for years. They are all still succeeding while all the complainers are still sitting behind a computer monitor and keyboard with nothing to show in their pathetic lives. The Idols are succeeding in life while most are still living with their mommies and daddies.

this is accurate. I always thought mina tzuyu hyewon shuhua can't portray anything with their dance. though shuhua has better moves, she is still awkward. I didn't realize the same with winter until this video. I always thought winter is good but there is something off and now that you mentioned I realized what. If I have to choose hyewon is worst at it, sorry to her fans but she never improved, her moves are unfinished too, it's like she just memorized the move and went along with the members

Lack of stage presence doesn't mean untalented. I think it's Bec of their personality and social awkwardness. Which isn't good because being a k-pop idol means so much more than singers yknow

"Kang Hyewon" I love everything about this girl~ Her elegant visuals~ Her cute, shy, and nerdy personality~ Her intelligence~ I know that not many people will like, and will critizice her for her flaws... If you guys would give her a chance to get to know her, you wouldn't exactly call her a "Soulless Queen". Hyewon may lack in some skills when she was still an Idol... But she still managed to capture the hearts of her fans, along with all her Best Friends (which is all the other IZ*ONE members)

5:04 not a fan of gidle so i don't really know about their stories, but this reasoning is really questionable to me. Isn't yuqi a foreigner too? I think being a foreigner is not a very good reason for having lesser lines than other members but it also depends maybe she is really not that good in Korean? idk because in winwin's case in nct I kinda understand why he's not given that much of lines when he is still in nct127 because boi is really having a hard time on speaking the language but he improved overtime.....

Even if Mina had tried to improve her facials expressions which for me I never noticed it but I have noticed that sometimes that Mina do be lacking energy and her choreal but from how much the girls work I kind of don't blame her to pretty much be down on energy at that point but at least when she does perform she gives her all and she shows it in her movements in her facial expression so even if she did try to change it up a little bit so why bother changing what works.
