I have the 61 key version so I can't speak for the weighted action. My board has a light and springy synth action. Still, a very good connection to the sound engine. It feels like you are playing an instrument. Enjoyable and easy on the hands to play. Great sound quality and presence.

I got my Kross about a month ago, after buying a Krome from Musician's Friend that was defective. So I got this instead. The plastic feel of the keys was gettin' to me - so I rubbed them down with 220 grit sandpaper, and it made a WORLD of difference! It feels like ebony & ivory keys now, with very little finger slippage! Korg could have charged another $200 for that, and it cost me $3. I also love some of the sounds on the Kross - especially the Rhodes Pianos, and the Mellotrons! - Bring on the MELLOTRONS!

So what you are saying,is that for $1,000...the Kross 88 key-bed is shit and that I have to buy some f**king sandpaper and scratch the shit out of a brand new piece of gear, just to get some decent action out of it? ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME!??

Philo Beddoe It's your Korg, you do as you wish. Man - I hope the music you make is better than your atitude. That was totally unnecessary. Good luck with it.

Mark Darnell I'm just expressing my disgust,at the thought of taking a $1,000 instrument and desecrating it with sandpaper. As brash & extreme as my reaction is to you,well...you have to admit, that it's extreme and utterly bizarre,to wreck a key-bed...by treating the keys as if they were made out of wood. I find it totally unnecessary,to tolerate a key-bed that you don't like...I mean...why? The Kross is nothing more than a glorified Casio, with mediocre sounds...which to me,does not justify resorting to ruining the keys with sandpaper and then telling the world about it(as if you are providing some useful advice on keyboard renovations.) The Kross only has 112MB worth of ROM,with no expansion options whatsoever, which makes it an obsolete closed box. There's so many other choices out there...but then again...some people will do just about anything to save a few bucks....but even still, your story is shocking,to me. Good luck trying to sell your sand-papered Kross on eBay(in the event you ever decide to unload it),because you've murdered the resale value of it. This is exactly why I haven't...nor will I ever, buy used musical instruments.

Philo Beddoe - Phil - having owned it almost a year...I'll agree with you on e few thing. Yes - the key-bed IS Mushy! - and the woodwinds, and brass are fucking ENEMIC! The combi sounds are a little better, and tweeking sounds is Laborious! But - I have done my share of tweeking, and if you combine unthorodox sounds- like some percusion, or breath sounds with Piano, or Strings with mellotron Tape grit - is sounds cool! You have the change the envelopes, and tweek the LFO so there is more natural attack, and decay. Yeah ...it's a fucking lot of work! As for the sandpaper scheme- The feel is MUCH Better! - and I don't plan to resell it for awhile. Again - Be well, and sorry for getting "Huffy"!

No need to apologize,as my reply was emotional & my enthusiasm towards keyboards can be interpreted the wrong way and well,I could have toned down my opinion a bit. I'm guessing this is your first semi-pro keyboard...or at least, your first Korg?Reason I ask...is I've owned several Korgs over the years and in the last 10 years,Korg hasn't really impressed me in the workstation arena(except of course, the magnificent Kronos)...but I can't afford one currently. I was frustrated with Korg and hardware workstations in general...which is why I sold all of my hardware and delved into computer DAW's. Over the years,I've learned not to be taken in by budget pricing, which is why...for now,I just use my computer. From what you've told me,it sounds like the Kronos is just what you need,in every respect...so I think it would be in your best interest,to save for a Kronos...don't you think? That is to say...I am certain you will love the key-bed of the Kronos,as well as the workflow and the incredible sounds. I know that the $3,000 price range is still a lot of money, but then...the Kronos is actually the successor,to the Oasys and the Kronos is a very reasonably priced alternative to the former Oasys workstation(which is twice the price).

It's actually a lot better than people think it is. I actually didn't pay it much attention when it was released but having had a chance to look one over at Korg UK and chat with the product development guys the Kross makes a lot of sense. The 88 note version has a really nice action...for me anyway and it sounds way better than the online demos. For anyone who is writing this off without actually playing one I would say go check it out in person before making a decision, it may just change your mind :)

So what you are saying is,that this 112MB rompler sounds a lot better than the ROM size would suggest? I'll admit...the Kross 88 key would make a nice midi controller for my DAW and the built in audio recorder is a nice touch...but how can the Kross compare to the Krome's 3.8GB of sound content??

I have to agree. There's one asshole here bashing the product and i see him posting on almost all the official demos of this thing calling it a toy without testing it. When i get mine i'm gonna show him what i can do with that keyboard.

Philo Beddoe Well if you sit the KROSS side by side with the KROME you will probably notice the difference. The sound engine in the KROME is different for a start. Also keep in mind that a large part of the ROM in the KROME is dedicated to Piano and good as they are it's not the whole story. The KROME is also more expensive by some margin. It's about what you can afford and for the price the KROSS ticks a lot of boxes.

Shan Michael Escasio Yeah seems to be the case a lot lately. Trolls expounding on the virtues of one keyboard or another without having actually tried them. I spent three weeks with the KROSS and it is a really nice board for the money.

yamahaforums i have to agree. One such troll here who thinks he's smart enough, calling the kross a toy after having it for a day without even trying. Just plain stupid..comparing a budget synth to a midranger is like comparing a streetcar to a supercar. Even their spelling varies. And oh, KIM DIEZ is the name of the troll who i see bashing his ass off on all demo videos of the kross.

Hello, I'm a jazz sax player and want to create rhythm tracks and original scores using primarily acoustic instruments .... I do not play piano, at all. I have been attracted to the Korg workstation. Upon getting an education from KZbin I get the feeling that you have to be pretty proficient on the keyboards. It incenses me a lot when it is assumed the viewers are piano players. If this is the case it should be brought in the beginning. After all, these workstations ain't cheap. I don't want to take a course in astrophysics just to enjoy the starry heavens.

Just bought one of the 61 key today ( already have a couple of weighted 88 key boards now ). Great in your face piano sound compared to the moxF6 for live use ( love the organ and EP sounds too ).. BTW keys on kross feel more solid and less twisty that those on krome61; go figure. Build felt solid. Looking forward to next casual gig; load in will be nice Plus I can plug a mike in and leave the mixer at home for vocals. Kudos Korg.

This is a great demo Rich......lots of playing and no talking!....ok my two cents :The Dubstep demo sounds really good despite my ignorance of the genre .....it's also a really nice looking keyboard......those pianos sound a bit cheap to my ears for solo work.....and the organs with leslie aren't great..you can't have it all in 112MB... but kudos to Korg for letting users record audio and overdub - other manufacturers please note......I also think the Clavi and Rhodes sound great on this demo (great playing) . It's a mixed bag...........but an impressive effort from Korg.....and great it has a built in sequencer...like the Microstation lots of FX multitimbrally...I am not sure the price difference between this and the Krome is great enough ( at the moment ). Like the other commentor said below perhaps you need to play in person before making any final assumptions/mind up.

Question.? When your playing any sound, and you hit the sustain pedal the sound rings and then change patches, that sound still sustaining. So whatever you having playing and you hit the sustain pedal, it will sustain the previous patch while you go to the new patch. i wonder if there is a program or data of korg kross.?

If she's never played keyboards before, get her an old used upright piano. They're either cheap or free and are a good place to learn. Synthesizers are very different.

She has been taking piano and guitar lessons for 2 years. We own 2 upright pianos, and I let her bang around on my dx7 and sampler, but don't let her touch my studio equipment. Hence my question regarding importing to Kronos.

How is it possible that in the Operating Guides of both Korg Kross and Krome, there is specified the same number of Drum Kits : 161, but written below that these are ranged from 0 to 56. The Guide doesn't specify if there are more Drum Kits per page, nor shows any drawing. Some keys - same drum kit - have 2 drums in Kross, but in Krome some of the keys amount to 8 drums. The Voice Name List shows the number of Drum samples for each : 890 for Kross, 1172+908 for Krome. Too many discrepancies for the common number of 161 Drum Kits. Would you make a video showing what the displays of these models indicate when browsing through Drum Kits ?

Actually the piano sounds are excellent in the Kross. It's the genre and style that's not appealing here. That being said, the dude doing the demo is a GREAT keyboard player, as good as nearly anybody in the top 40. he's just playing uninspired caca music. Anytime I here a piano or organ with a drum machine I'm thinking Bill Murray on Saturday Night Live, you either want to laugh or vomit.
