Daaaang Casio has come out of nowhere the past 5 years. I remember when I was younger Casio had a bad name for being a cheap Walmart keyboard with cheesy sounds. Their pianos sound amazing for the price. I played one at guitar center the other day for kicks and giggles and was blown away.

casio haves the best action on keyboards feels realistic on the fingertips helped with the texture of it keys and the brand pays attention on those details like string resonance and the sound when you press the sustain pedal and the release effects, like in the harpsichord voices ... :D

When you release a key quickly, it travels up and then bounces back down a bit. This can mess up your timing a bit. I am hoping I get used to it over time. The pivot point is short so you will need more pressure as you put fingers furthur towards back of keys then the front. The sounds are nice but you will probably want to adjust some of the paramaters of the resonance and strength of reverb. Make sure you turn on auto resume so it will remember on powerup your changes. I also turned off those silly notification tones. You will have to plug a dummy 1/8th inch jack into the headphones if you want to run line outs without internal speakers sounding.

I just checked this out at my local music shop, I am IN LOVE with the design and how portable it is. It sounds exceptional considering its size and the action is fantastic. I've owned a PX-350 for about 5 years now and it's served me well but a few keys are starting to get wonky and rather than get it fixed I'm in the mood to treat myself to an upgrade. I'm a regularly gigging pianist and its light weight is a huge benefit which I prioritize over a lot of other features, and this one seems even more easily portable. The ONE THING I have to say is I have grown really tired of the Lincoln Log-feeling keys on my PX-350 and was so disappointed to find them on this model. My fingers just don't love playing them (matter of personal taste, I'm not saying this will necessary be the feeling of other players). In the end, I ended up having to shift my priorities and sacrifice ease of portability for another brand piano which was heavier but has smoother keys that my fingers just loved playing so much more. It was such a difficult decision because I really feel like Casio got so much right with this, but with the number of hours my fingers are going to be spending on it I needed to go with something else. I'll definitely continue to keep an eye on Casio's future offerings because I do think they're doing so much to continue evolving and innovating.

PS - At my local store, when I asked about this model the employee mentioned to me being excited about it having seen this specific demo and then we chatted a while about how amazing Rich Formidoni is and how much we just generally enjoy his product demos going all the way back to his Korg days :).

This has way better sounds (that aren’t grand pianos because Roland kills it there) rolands electric pianos and strings are meh. But the Roland action is better. Otherwise, this is not THAT far behind unless you’re a snobby concert pianist. So this gives you more features and arguably better non-piano sounds but roland is slightly better in action and grand piano samples.

I have had a PX-160 for three years. I play the crud out of it. I play a lot of ragtime, so I play a whole lot harder and fiercer than a lot of people do on theirs, but - it's held up brilliantly. I bring it to a lot of live gigs, too, dropping it, dragging it around, I've repainted it several times. Still works as well as it did the day I bought it. Not saying you SHOULD do all those things, but... my Privia is a tank. Really interested in this new one...

@jimmyfigueras4476
@jimmyfigueras4476 5 жыл бұрын
FURY i played on them both yesterday at a sam ash store. It depends on what you mean by better. The p-125's action key surface is better and slightly heavier than than the p-45 because it isn't slippery from most of the previous hammered action yamaha keyboards. The px-s1000 has that synthetic ebony and ivory which feels very good and the p-125's surface isn't exactly the same as casio's but it's pretty close in feeling that wooden yet smooth surface. In terms of hammered action, yamaha's action is more professional and slightly heavier than the px-s1000. They both have built-in speakers and the sound quality on both is excelent. I was very impressed with the px-s1000 because i've hated casio products so far until this one, it exceeded my expectations. The p-125 has more presets than the px-s1000. They're both very lightweight for the non-muscular type to easily lift and they both have beautiful appearances. It all comes down to which one you feel is right for you, which is something only you can decide by trusting your intuition. If you still don't know, i recommend going to a music store and playing them both to find out which one is right for you because for some people Nord keyboards are right for them, but not for me, i dont like nord because of its springy keyboard action and excessively artificial sound, tiny letters on the dashboard and their high price. I've always been a yamaha guy, but i also like kawai, korg and roland and now casio. They're both excellent so it comes down to a matter of personal taste. I hope this helps.

Having played Yamaha for years, I tried the Casio yesterday and surprisingly thought that key action was better. Yamaha’s weighted action can be heavy and over time an effort on the hands. I did have the moxf and the key bed on that is not that great, a plastic type feel which lacks the nice rubber response when playing.

I dont think the video does it justice tbh. Coming from someone whos used Yamaha his whole life, I recently visited a guitar center and played the 1000 and never really felt so amazed before. It has a really beautiful sound and the dynamics are so sensitive you can play very emotionally.

Not sure if you know how real pianos work, but what he's doing is holding down a chord without actually playing it and playing the root note of that chord to make it resonate. It's very faint and hard to tell without headphones or good speakers, but it emulates what a real piano would do which is really cool.

Even the cheapest Yamaha sounds better than the most expensive Casio

If you think of the Yamaha P-45, it has a pathetic sound engine and a lousy key action, that's it. Yamaha's GHS key action is found in P-45, P-125 an even mid-priced instruments as MODX8 but beyond consideration to anyone who knows how to play a piano. Besides it's not appropriate for educational purpose. Casio and Roland are far ahead with quality standards of their starter instruments. The Casio PX-S1000 has nice specs and even if you are not able to hear it when you listen: it sounds geat, obviously.

I'm not sure what qualifies this statement? Sound is very subjective. I have a fairly extensive collection of Yamaha and Casio top end keyboards as well as a Roli Seaboard Grand and a Technics GA-3. The Pianos on the casio are very impressive, though I do not like some of the other sounds. The casio pianos have been played and VERY HIGHLY reviewed by some of the worlds top rated players. While I respect your view, what specific instruments are you comparing when you made your statement? Yamahas.....I have a tyros 5, a NP130, a clavinova, a PSR910. Casio I have a PX350, PX850, PX-5s and the PX560.....The casios all have 88 notes weighted graded hammer action they also have a more mellow rounded sound. The yamahas have a brighter sound, which I also like for gigging with a live band. I use all of my gear through fairly substantial PA system, but I would not say that the Yamahas are better than the Casios for Piano. The NP130, in my opinion does not compare with any of the casio pianos. I have found that when I play at open mic nights, a lot of keyboard players scoff at my casios, until the get to play them...I think Casio have made toys for a long time, but are now upping their game, but many people are loath to give them a chance. The big brother of the PX S1000, the Casio PX-S3000 won best in show at Winter NAMM 2019 ... Surely all the judges weren't wrong?
