I knew the review itself, is an ad, but that's OK. I just want to know what it can do, and what it sounds like. I think the comment is this: "in fact, it is even better in a lot of regards". I'd like to qualify that. There are new performances, the price is lower, it weighs less. The Motif XF has faders, a bigger screen, a different action, the ability to record up to 16 individual audio channels at up to 24bit/96kHz via the FW16 expansion board, it has better D/A converters and it, as you stated, can sample. There are definitely superior aspects to the Motif XF. Just to clarify what I was saying.

Hi, on the moxf6 when i apply an effect to one track, it affects them all unless i decrease the send levels, however that limits me to only one effect type for my entire song, how can i assign independent effects for each track?

So, sure, it does a lot of cool things but usually when I watch something like this, I'm listening to see if it has a good Rhodes, some good organ sounds and stuff like that. I think that's the main thing people want when they buy something like this. Decent keyboard sounds. Am I ever going to use a nylon string guitar? I can't see myself using that personally. I wish they could just make a good affordable keyboard that does all the keyboard things that keyboardists want.

Nice demo. I just wish Yamaha would stop being so stingy with the poly on their budget synths. It's 2013.., there's no excuse for them not producing these units with 128 note poly. They keep upping the ROM, and upping the elements per voice (which is fine), but they never up the poly. The MOX series is great (but like the previous models), they are greatly crippled by the very limted 64 note poly. I used to have the MO8, it sounded great, but sequencing really showed the poly limit.

Well, I have both DGX 305 and Roland GW7 and it is hard to say which one is better, I like them all, and they are great as a combination for playing together. Piano sounds and expressiveness of keyboard are better at DGX, as well as on recordings it sounds more convincing, realistic, especially drums or bass sounds. Roland is very useful as source of beautiful ethnic sampled instrument sounds, really versatile organ sounds and real guitar tones. It has few rather good electric piano sounds, 16-ch.sequencer and wider editing possibilities in general. Rhythm patterns are based on recent pop production, but many appear not to be very useful in playing live. Yamaha has possibility to engage both split and dual mode at the same time, while I found disadvantage in inability to exclude sustain from lower keyboard zone if you play bass manually, for instance. GW7 is very light to carry, 5kg, and therefore very good for rehearsing and walking around, Touch sensitivity is hard to control, but I know that roland fixed that problem at newer models( GW8 or E09) by providing better key mechanism. Next, when speaking about choice of an instrument, very important is your personal approach to music, style of playing, favorite sounds you use or expect. Both of these models are worth of this money you´ve mentioned, so in the end itś up to you. Yamaha has built in loudspeakers, Roland not. Good luck!

Rafael Mariano It can sample, hence the capability of putting in the flash cards. I own the Motif XF but almost never sample with it, so I can't comment on how good it is for sampling. You can download the manual and read up on it.

Well, I've been playing Yamaha keyboards since the original motif, and I use a patch called analogue pad. You can find it in any of their workstations (motif, s70, s90, all the MOs). Just cat. search pads in the voice mode and you should be able to find it. It's a really simple sound but it's really fat, perfect for bkgrnd layering.

What would you say are the pro's and con's of this compared to the Roland FA-08 Synthesizer Workstation. Because they cost the same and the video of the FA08 looked and sounded way better

+herrizaax The Roland FA has a very limited library of SuperNatural acoustic sounds and drum kits (basically THE selling point) compared to their Jupiter synths or the Integra module, it's basically like a demo. That's quite unfortunate IMO and a huge strike against the workstation. With the MOXF you get the complete sound library and modeling capabilities of the Motif XF. You might prefer the sound, heck I do too, but you can't argue that unlike Yamaha with the MOXF, Roland gimped the FA quite unfairly.

Polyphony x 2 to 128, Rom sounds increase to 741MB Motif XF 2010 sound set :( .. Flash expansion. That's about it. Still the basic dull screen...no color screen unlike the Korg Krome. Retains the built audio interface which is nice for DAW set up. Its interesting that it uses the 2010 XF sound set.just like Krome uses some of the Kronos Rom Data. I can't complain about the features against the price listing I would ditch my MOX6 for the MOXF6. Sadly what Yamaha did was change the Rom sound only.

Kudos to Yamaha for the sound sets,flash ram & the 8 insert effects of the MOXF,but I had the MOX6, and the audio interface & PC integration was a disaster(not only in terms of it being a convoluted & complex mess,but being locked into using only certain DAW's specified by Yamaha was the worst part. That being said,I'd rather have the display & the WAV file rendering features of the Motif XF included in this model,rather than the DAW integration,so I will pass on this keyboard.

great keyboard with that there is now doubt but you can not compare a flagship sampling workstation with a lower priced spinoff, I mean the D/A converters on the Motif XF would be better plus sampling the build quality would be much better but as a budget keyboard for a project producer or computer musician this would be ideal. I am a happy Motif XF6 user.

Why? It's a great synth. Compare to my Virus, it's far easier to use, has a sequencer, more effects, full drum kit, many more sounds, etc. The Virus is going to be more flexible for synthesis. You could think of them as complementary, and unplugged (unplugged from some painful to use DAW.) It's really about what you want to do.
