Florian Schneider of German electronic band Kraftwerk has died, Billboard has confirmed. He was 73.
In a statement, Kraftwerk co-founder Ralf Hütter confirms "the very sad news that his friend and companion over many decades Florian Schneider has passed away from a short cancer disease just a few days after his 73rd birthday."
Florian Schneider-Esleben (7 April 1947 - 6 May 2020) was part of Kraftwerk until his departure in November 2008.
Kraftwerk is a German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Widely considered as innovators and pioneers of electronic music, they were among the first successful acts to popularize the genre.
The group began as part of West Germany's experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders.
‘Autobahn’ their biggest hit reached #12 in the Dutch Top 40 on 19 July 1975.
This especially created Toppop videoclip was first broadcast on Toppop on 4 July 1975.

Man of Wealth and Taste Well, the word Autobahn is German, but strangely most (if not all) of the roads and cars in this video are actually Dutch 😯 And pretty congested as well these days, to put it mildly...

I love the full version but it was fun to hear this single version from time to time in the 1970's. Most of the radio stations I listened to in those days would use it to time into their top of the hour news so they could fade it out.

What a wonderful modern song for those days (1974). And such a beautiful and advanced clip. And nice to see that it seems to have been shot in the Netherlands, at least partially. Also funny how you can see the Dutch word "remkabels" on the roof of that farm in the early stage of the clip.

This was just before “promotional videos” became a thing. I’m guessing the Dutch Top Pop made this video themselves (maybe from stock footage) and that it wasn’t meant to ever be shown to an international audience.

It's very interesting...most popular culture would accept that the Rock Group 'Queen' would have been the group that came out with the first kind of official music video in 1975, for their song 'Bohemian Rhapsody', even though as an art-form, the music video was not truly recognised for its artistic visual concepts till 4 years later in the age of the new wave, post-punk music genre. in fact in 1975, they were still using the term 'Music Promo'. For Europe, (Continental Europe in 1975) the situation of the visual of the music promo would have been different, to the way the United Kingdom made music promos. I am using that term because in 1975, this term was still being used. The Group 'ABBA' (in Sweden) were making music promos (even before 1975) that were in the artistic realms of what we today, would recognise as the music video. It was the same with Kraftwerk in Germany. The Autobahn music promo was made in 1975 and it really can be called a 'music video', because it is edited that way. Kraftwerk as a group are not seen in the Autobahn music video (I think its safe to use that term now for this purpose). All you see is the movement (through a moving vehicle) of the German Motorways and sign posts of the German motorway. What is incredible is that the visual image itself is very clean and modern-contemporary. There is NOTHING in the 'Autobahn' music video that seems 'old fashioned'. So this particular music video is way-ahead of its time in terms of its visual image concept. The autobahn music video has the visual dimensions of the new-wave, post-punk visual image, way before that actual term was even used for music and the visual image of music. Kraftwerk were all about modernism. They naturally had a modern sound with the synthesizer, they had a modern outlook as a group and naturally the visual image would be modern. With the 'Autobahn' music video, they are probably the first group to have EVER released a music video that was way-ahead of its time, that was COMPLETELY Modern and Contemporary.

Roger Howard Interesting story, but if this really is the video you're refering to then you're absolutely wrong about at least the 'German' motorways bit. All the highways and roadsigns in this video are clearly recognizable as Dutch. Getting that so utterly wrong raises serious doubts about the other 'facts' in your (not so) little tale too...

What about The Who, their manager Kit Lambert was an art director. So around 1965 or 66, they've made a fee music "promos" to cater to the music. Like The Kids are Alright, and Happy Jack.
@rogerhoward7498
@rogerhoward7498 4 жыл бұрын
@@robertbelchick8263 Thanks for replying. What constitutes as a music video are the visual reflections that are going on in the 'visual frame' of the photographic image in music video. So things such as what the musician is actually doing in the visual frame, especially in relation to an ' acting ' persona of character. Other things.. such as how the musician is photographed ,and how the visual image is moving because of how the camera is moving for music video is also important here. There would be more movement than you would see in the 'music promo'. I had to memorize myself again for the Who videos, so i watched them again on KZbin. For the Kids are alright music promo...I did look at this and think to myself this is just a visual ' music promo ' of the mid 1960's period, BUT...further along...something very interesting happened...THE KIDS could be seen. Its all in the title of this song, of course Kit would film children. There has been an attempt here NOT just to make a music promo, but to make a visual film, as you would for music video. There is also an attempt by Kit Lambert to make a visual in style of documentary ' Cinema Verite' and the Way the Who are shown performing in the park with visual movement in camera and the children of the mid 1960's shown in the promo is very similar to cinema verite. The kids are alright promo also reminded me of the way the children were visualized in the Madness music video for their single ' Baggy Trousers' and I mean in the natralness of how you visually film children in the mid- 1960's period. I think it would be a very fair assumption for these times we are living in, to call Kitt Lambert's promo for the Who's Kids are Alright as a music video. There were two visuals to the Who's Happy Jack single on KZbin, that I thought were more appropriate for analysis of being a music video. The first was a performance from The Television music programme Beat Club, which cannot really be called a music video, it is just a music television performance of the who performing the song on television, BUT ....i would say this with a caution, because in odd moments of this performance you can see the group breaking down the rules of visual performance, being naughty and rebellious, certainly not going with the normal conventions of mid- 1960's music television performance. In fact...there could be a it of Mod rebellion at play here. I would say that although this cannot be wholly seen as a music video...its influence could certainly be reflected for rock musicians who star in their music videos today. The other visual for Happy Jack is an animation for the song which is very similar in style to the visual songs on the Beatles Film : Yellow Sumbarine. This visual today can certainly be classified as a music video. For another example ( one year from October 1966) is the music promo for The Rolling Stones song ' Have You Seen Your Mother Lately( Standing in the shadows). You can naturally see the Stones performing the song on the stage at one of their gigs, but an attempt has been made to continually show fans sabotaging the stage, to interrupt the Stones natural show performance. In here are the natural ingredients of today's Rock Show Performance music video.
