My first watch and like of you channel. I'm 71 live in Loveland for 20 years looking at Longs Peak from the bottom up. Just had open hert surgery and a pacemaker installed. If I get to where I can hike and breath again I would like to try longs peak and look at home from the top down. This was a good sample of whats ahead. A neighbor thinks I'm crazy and told me people die on this hike every year. I'd rather crash and burn doing something I love instead of slowly rotting away one peace at a time.

Kraig- this is singlehandedly the best and most beautiful video of Long's. I watch most of your videos and you are so talented. Having said that, I wouldn't minimize the effort required to safely complete the Keyhole Route, even though it is "only" Class 3. It is a long day, anyway you shake it and it will beat up a lot of hikers. You are fit and experienced. There are far too many people on this mountain that are not and shouldn't be attempting it. Rockfall in the Trough is also particularly dangerous during summer months, with lines of people kicking rock down. Helmets are always a great option. Again, it was a magnificent video and I hate to be preachy. But, people die up there and it most of the accidents are highly preventable.

This is my favorite video of Longs that I've seen, and I've seen many. I grew up in the shadow of it and it's always beckoned/haunted me. You just seem so at peace during the climb, which gives me confidence to possibly try it this upcoming summer of 2024. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙏

This is amazing work. But what people may not realize is the extremely hard work of filming it all. Camera setup. Filming a movie. Then you go back to pick up your camera and clean myself up again. And then edit it all together. I myself have recently started making videos about nature, so I really understand how hard it is. A beautifully made video shows that you really love what you do, you inspired me alot.Greetings from India 😊❤️🌼

Shot at 5:39 is money - also if you want more big trip backpacking style - Colorado Trail has endless options, especially down in the San Juan's. Can be linked on their own or to create much bigger loops.

You had pretty perfect weather! Those sections that "seemed easier than you had heard" can get pretty sketchy quickly in a storm. Been up Longs 8 times now, first time was over 14 hours round trip. Quickest time was 4:18 round trip. Pikes is still my favorite of the 14ers, (Barr trail from Manitou Springs to summit) it's just such a great trail!

Kraig - I recommend "Ice Lake" outside of Silverton. Of all the Colorado trails I've hiked that one seems to have the most lush vegetation and wildlife. Also, the state stocks the upper lake (Fuller lake) with brown trout so you can do a little fishing when you reach the top. I think the uppermost peak is around 12.5k feet high. The last time I went I lugged 15lbs of wetsuit gear and free dived Fuller Lake. Sometimes I wonder if Im the only human to ever do that 🤔. There's mostly just old, rusty miner equipment at the bottom but it was still a lot of fun. There were edible puffball mushrooms growing all around the lake so I had trout and sautéed puffball for lunch...It was great😃.

In the 70’s Chasm Lake was frozen over the entire summer. Such a beautiful location. The Diamond face of Longs at roughly 2500’ vertical feet and is absolutely magnificent.

After watching your video I decided to give you a few helpful ideas since you are new to the Rockies. You might consider using better shoes. Boots with steel shanks will better protect your ankles and feet. The hard granite rocks on Longs have made many hikers in tennis shoes wish they stayed home. I have had to assist people with serious ankle injuries on three separate Longs hikes. All had tennis shoes on. Your cavalier remarks about the ease of this climb help no one. Many have died on this peak . It should be taken very seriously as should all of the fourteeners. I wish you happy climbing in the Rockies.

100% agree that most 14ers don't need their own video, but there are certainly some that deserve it. Crestone Peak/Needle, Capitol, and Chicago basin to name a few. If you enjoyed the scrambling on Longs you should come up to the Flatirons, there are so many fun routes.

Nice hike and photography. I moved in CO four years ago, and though I day hike extensively, I still haven't summitted a single 14er. Though they have their own charm, I like the hiking out of Ouray and vicinity -- involving basins, lakes, streams, canyons, forests, etc. The best hikes are in the 6-8 mile roundtrip range, with an average of 2000' elevation gain. And one can head up toward Grand Junction for a more desert environment and red rock canyons like found in Utah. Be safe and keep hiking.

I did this in 2018 with a group of friends. Winds were RIPPING at the keyhole as we waited for the sun to rise (started at 2 am). The shelter was full and me and my buddy found a "cave" created by 2 boulders and smashed ourselves in there followed by 2 other friends. never been so cold in my life. I had the pleasure of climbing this amazing peak around 16 times from the mid 70’s to mid 80’s. It’s challenging yet rewarding! You’ll pucker up at the trough, the narrows, and the home stretch. Sorry but too many damn people crowd this trail. It’s a beauty though. Love Longs Peak!

Regarding the Marmots-- They definitely probably get fed sometimes but a Ranger at 4 pass loop told me they it's mostly because they are super mineral deprived since they live at such a high altitude. I caught one eating the leaves where I peed because of the minerals I was "discarding"
