Man this is awesome. Really. I am european, and I mostlly like agile sporty 4-6 bangers, but this... It looks like hell lot of fun driving! Its like 50 years old TRUCK, that gives probly arround 350-400 hp! I mean, look at the pull of that thing! @@haydenfoutz6858 both are pretty good engines! The 460 has a better oiling system and probably a bit easier to build up. The valve train is better on the 460 as well. On those old Cruise-O-Matics drive was actually in the lower position (where your shifter says 2), it starts out in 1st gear and goes to 2nd then 3rd. The position that we consider drive today was 2-3 for driving in snowy conditions. The lowest of course was 1st. Nice truck.

Back for the umpteenth time LOL. I gotta rebuild the MX transmission in my 59 Mercury, it might actually be the same trans as in your truck. In D1 it acts like 2nd gear is gone but in D2 2nd gear is perfectly fine. Something in there also sounds like a paint can full of gravel at times LOL. I'm finally swapping a 4 speed into my '76 f150, and I'm on the lookout for a 390 crank and rods. It has a 360 so I figure when I go to rebuild it I might as well add the cubes. Hope all is well with you!
@Krankie_V Жыл бұрын
Good to see ya buddy and that sounds like a fun project. I'm sure you probably know that in one of the drive positions it starts off in 2nd gear while in the other drive position it takes off in 1st. It's weird to me that second gear would act differently in each position.
@SuperKONR Жыл бұрын
@@Krankie_V Yeah it's weird, when it starts off in 2nd, it's fine. But in the other position it starts in 1st, then it flares to the moon and then hits 3rd like 2nd is burned out. It could just be gunk in the valve body but considering that it's supposed to be a closed system, that's likely going to mean a rebuild anyways. It's supposed to have bronze friction discs instead of paper lined clutches, pretty interesting.

Hayden Foutz it's definitely more work to steer. Note that these old trucks are easily converted. The steering boxes are all pretty much the same and still available to buy remanufactured units. Standard full length headman hedders and flowtech purple hornies glass pack mufflers. 2.25" pipes. I wish I had used 3 inch pipes though. 3" gives a deeper tone
