It would be completely uncanny and cursed if they didn't do such a slow and meticulous character arc. It's still kinda crazy to see, but it's completely deserved! I fuckin love it. I'm just curious about the future of the franchise. Now that it's flipped in its head completely, from a violent tragedy to a very optimistic story, how will them keep things unique? I feel like as much as they stray away from the violence (which is a good thing) they put themselves in danger of losing... the soul of the franchise. I guess they will always spice it up with... Heimdall moments.

It's cool to see how much Kratos' and Mimir's friendship has grown. They practically are brothers at this point. Hell, so much so that Kratos straight up lets Mimir have a hand in raising his own son. Even Atrieus sees Mimir as another father.

I will always love the "Hell's an olive?" line, but my favorite moment with Mimir and Kratos is at the end of the game (Caution, spoilers ahead) when Mimir figures out the answer to Brok's riddle after his funeral. It was so sad and touching at the same time. You could see both he and Kratos were still so full of grief.

There's another one when they find a musical instrument from Greece. The convo sorta goes like this: Mimir: "A musical instrument from your homeland. Can you play it?" Kratos: "Yes." Odin's dialogue as Týr really made me appreciate his character. As in, Odin, the character, can really get *into* character. That "He'll only cloud your mind" line has so many layers. On the one hand, he knows it's what he needs to say when they're all bashing Odin's name to make sure he doesn't stand out. But, clouding someone's mind is ambiguous, not really the kind of mental threat Odin really is. It could be Odin slightly bragging. Warning Atreus that Odin will cloud his mind, while he silently clouds everyone's mind around him. Such a good plot twist

Wine is still around technically. Like how kratos and artreus found some in the first game. And I imagine there’s other lands with grapes, so it’s only a matter of time before they make wine. There’s also technically a type of wine found in the Nordic countries called mead. Except instead of grapes, they use honey.

One thing I love about GOW: Ragnarok is how it not only shows Kratos’ change in character by how he raises Atreus but also by how he acquired and treated his weapons compared to the ones he had in Greece. He’s ripped the heads off of a couple of opponents and treated them as nothing more tools for how he sees fit, whereas Mimir asked Kratos to cut off his head, gives him counsel and the two have built a brotherly relationship. He considers him a brother, not some weapon or tool. A wise older brother he gets to hang on his belt lol. Same with Faye’s Axe, Leviathan. It was given to him in love and it always comes back to him, as opposed to Blades of Chaos… Which were forged out of Hate, Strife and Malice and given to him to be used solely as an instrument of war, to decimate all whom he saw fit, even the innocent. They too are destined to return to him. There’s a scene where he enters his home and throws down the Blades of Chaos, while he gently sets the Axe down next to him. He’s come such a long way but he’s still the same man from the beginning, just wiser… Better. A masterclass in storytelling 🎉

One of my favorite character developments, Kratos moved up from calling Mimir from “Head,” to “Brother.” What Kratos been through and all he lost, addressing Mimir as his own kin gave me pure joy then turned to concern on what if Mimir is gonna die in this game or Mimir pulls a betrayal to Kratos, recycling Kratos’ trust issues from the previous games…then immediately tossed the idea of betrayal when Mimir became more an uncle for Atreus and having more strong bonding scenes with Kratos.

It’s been an awfully long while until Kratos finally had someone to knock some sense into him again (after what happened before as well as Faye’s death). He’s finally able to discuss adult matters sincerely without sugarcoating it for Loki and dismissing it for everyone else (minus Freya). Mimir’s a good brother. I know he’s just a head always slung behind Kratos, yet my word was he so patient with him. Unsurprisingly for the wisest man, but he really saw potential with Kratos to be better not only for his sake but for Atreus, too. That also makes him an amazing uncle.
