The Norns actually give a very hopeful and useful message to Kratos. That there is no grand design, it’s just that the actors are terribly predictable, and that breaking the script is possible if they just wake up to it.
@schen79132 жыл бұрын
It's a bit unclear where the script-breaking happened though.
@radcoreboy18382 жыл бұрын
@@schen7913 Ideas: 1. "Open your heart to their suffering." The events that followed eventually led to THEM breaching Hrimthur's flaw and not Ragnarok. 2. The whole thing with Tyr maybe? It was predicted that Tyr is the one to lead the armies of Ragnarok. But what eventually happened is that Kratos agreed to become the general. 3. Wait. When was Kratos supposed to die? With Thor maybe? Either way, he did something out of character... not killing a god. All of these are possible actions that broke the "script".
@sentilopis2 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking one big deviation was that last fight with Thor. The mural depicted that Kratos would die in that fight. If we may recall, Odin appeared immediately after the fight stopped, Thrud was also only seconds away. So if Kratos didn't choose to put down his rage, and appeal to their common sense of love for their own children, persuading Thor, Kratos would probably be the one dead if the conflict continued. It should've been the natural flow of things for Thor and Kratos to battle to the death. A sudden de-escalation would be the extreme outlier event.
@sentilopis2 жыл бұрын
@@radcoreboy1838 It kinda makes sense. If they chose to sacrifice the Midgardians, the Midgards and the boy Skjold would probably be killed in the process, which would completely piss off Thrud, possibly leading to her death at the hands of Kratos. Which would steel Thor's resolve to kill Kratos along Odin.
@no_less032 жыл бұрын
@@sentilopis , nope. Thor wasn't supossed to fight him to death and kill Kratos 'cause it simply makes no sense at all. In fact, he was overwhelmed by Kratos mainly due to the fact that the axe had Eitr. Atreus was the one meant to kill Kratos by perfoming the same spell he perfomed on Odin probably to protect Thor after he turned into the ghost of sparta (and probably killed Thrud since she's the first character you find when Ragnarok begins.) Thinking Kratos would die in a fight against Thor is an absolute no-brainer since he's known to be capable of murdering gods even when he holds back (Magni and Modi). Actually, that's what Kratos said in gow 2018 ("no, this is your story") and gow Ragnarok explicitly stated Atreus is the one who changed the course of the events. Angrboda realized he had changed his own fate when he found out Kratos would die in his hands. Meanwhile, Kratos actions didn't change anything until the last fight against Thor: he still killed Heimdall just like the norns predicted and he feared he'd turn into the same beast he was back in Greece until Atreus asked him to trust him and comforted him (Atreus would've been forced to kill Kratos if he hadn't changed his own fate.) Basically, there were 3 possible outcomes: - Kratos didn't kill Heimdall, which would get Atreus killed and he'd probably go ghost of sparta at least against the aesir and he'd probably die since he's going against Thrud, Thor, Odin, Sif and pretty much everyone sided with the aesir. - Kratos went mad against Thor and Atreus would have to side with the aesir, which would get Kratos killed. - Kratos finally let Atreus handle the situation. Odin, Thor and Heimdall would die.

@TranshumanMarissa2 жыл бұрын
Its possible she did mean it literally. My take here is that.. well, I think Kratos avoided his fate the way he was advised to.. by changing from an archtype, changing who he is. Its subtle, but the Norns Imply you can only change fate by changing who you are, not by brute force, or by knowing Fate. Odin wanted to know the answers, because he thought he could change things if he knew the answers, but explicitly, the true power to change fate is Kratos decision to be better for the boy. Which, yes, does mean he ended up substituting his metaphorical old self rather then his literal life.. but I think that was because of his changes.
@DDragon12262 жыл бұрын
It's astounding that basically all of what they said are the truth. Urd said Heimdall intends to kill Atreus, never said he will succeed, she said Kratos will do what he does best, which is killing Gods, which he eventually does. And more importantly, she said that only their choice matters, which is the truth for both of them, as Baldr did die a needless death due to Freya's fear after hearing that very line, and Kratos will go and craft a God killing weapon because of the line he heard right here. Essentially, these 3 are storytellers, so they tell the story in a way that influence the choices of others. Even if Kratos doesn't have Draupnir spear, Atreus will still be fine, but because of what Urd said he goes on to trigger Ragnarok. "That your choices are so predictable merely make us seem prescient". This one line sums up it all.

The way they dissect the lives of our three heroes is so cutting. Kratos while extremely annoyed is not only taken aback but is left speechless. Even freya given the answer she was the reason bualdre died, can't accept it. But that's the result of subverting the future. Where there's death, there will always be death, and by trying to prevent the outcome have only insured the predicted result The three norns just told them there all just so predictable they barely need foresight to determine what will happen. But I feel this was also them giving kratos his answer. They told him they are the sum of there choices, so one would assume they need only go against there nature in order to forge a new path.

They used Freya's tragedy as a motivator to his own and basically said "If you don't change you will die." This pushed only one realm to be destroyed and not all in Ragnarok. I don't think they are as powerless as they said. I think they just didn't want to interfere much or let Kratos that they had that power. All Gods get used and killed by him. One of the proofs that really convinced me on this, is that being able to predict the future outcome of patterns of personality is one thing. If we take into consideration things such as the Mandela effect, I think it's safe to assume the timeline does change when you alter the past. And besides, how does creating a new timeline work ? How do you create a new past without destroying the previous one ? For us, our past might become the future, but in the universe's perspective, the past is simply the past. Yes, I know the theory that time is endless, but I think that only proves my point, because if time is a circle and not a line, that means when you create a new past, it repeats over and over again, leaving no room for the old one to exist, because the new point in time you created becomes the new past, present and future of that time ⭕.

It is not fate, Kratos just have to make a different choice. There is no need to have a fight to the death with Thor. Instead, do what Loki did. Talk to Thor, use your words instead of your weapons."

And about the thor part as soon as we heard thor talking about kratos holding back in their first fight and kratos consistently saying he don't want to kill any gods it was clear thor was never going to kill kratos. Mostly it was the fans theorizing about it but in the game there was never a statement or a hint that thor would or could kill kratos if kratos remotely goes all out.

You can say that if you want, but remember.. the Norns pretty much explicitly imply that you can change fate, if you make new choices, become a new person, and KRatos literally chose to open his heart to people, "For the sake of our children, we must be better".,, so the prophecy was probably very literal. Kratos was probably destined to be fucking wrecked by Thor. Dont forget, The Norse gods are *beasts* physically, In an interview, it was said that Baldur was the strongest god, physically, Kratos had ever met to that point. The powers and magic of the Norse gods isnt up to the Greek pantheon, but they are monsters in physical fights, and Thor is probably the strongest of them. Kratos might have met his match in Thor, even going full rage, and even though he is apparently way stronger then he was in the older God of War Games.

Please chime in anyone and help me wrap my head around this. From my understanding of how fate/predestiny works between the two groups; The Sisters of Fate have (almost) absolute control over people's fates and outcomes so of course the only way around that/changing it is to kill them outright. For the Norns they can simply see ahead of them what is most likely to happen like advanced statistics. They understand the character traits of a person down to the minute detail that they can predict what someone is most likely to do or say with 99.9% accuracy. I'm using statistics because obviously Kratos and Atreus avoided their tragic predicted fate, but their actions based on their character still led to certain outcomes anyway (Ragnarok) so there's always a margin for error, that 0.01%, that things can differ in some way or form. Edit: Funny note - hanging around the Norns seems like hanging around several Joseph Joestars predicting what your next line is 😆

the norns can also choose to keep secrets from others, knowing that when they tell the "destiny" it either seals it or changes it. take freyas, if they told freya never to worry about baldur then would she still have made the decisions that lead to his death? or did they decide that since baldur must die they told her he would die a needless death? but they told kratos his and he was able to defy it because they knew he needed to survive
@Broomer522 жыл бұрын
You basically got it. The Sisters of Fate are past present and Future. They control the fates of all through their abilities. Because of their nature only future can be killed, the other two cannot die so rather than try he sealed them in different timelines and severed their connection to ours. Effectively sealing them away. They live but they’re not here anymore. The Norns on the other hand have no ability to see the future or control time and fate, simply being people who are very intelligent that they seem like they can see the future when in reality everyone is just very predictable to them.
@lisannawilfhelm58192 жыл бұрын
I think one of the keys here is that Kratos accepted that he will die, hence he's been training and spending more time and protecting atreus as much as he could. Also, because of Faye's interventions, Kratos became more open... So at the end of the game the gang can't visit the norns again, no?

So, after rewatching the Norns , I noticed (I’m sure everyone has) that each of the norns eloquently displays some near foresight that showcases a different aspect of time. The young woman doesn’t say anything that hasn’t already happened I.e: furrows his brow, resists the urge to grunt, he fails (past), the young one speaks the words simultaneously with the characters I.e: I seek my son, speak plain (present/immediate future) and the old woman who “you will die kratos of Sparta” (future).
@Revenant11282 жыл бұрын
The existence quite similar but different approach. The Sisters of Fate, Enforced their version of fate to the person by manipulation of time. Which means if some will be successful in his life they can go back and make it miserable which may also served their own agenda. From the game suggest that they can only went back to the past and no knowledge of the future. Norns, Does not enforced but inform the fate of someone via foresight. They know what the future holds and it is up to the person to change it or not.
@JabamiLain2 жыл бұрын
Oh, the Fates had foresight, otherwise their fortified keep wouldn't be filled with murals depicting Kratos's destiny. They simply couldn't stand such horrific vision, and sought to keep it from happening. The reason the Sisters announced Cronos's defeat was exactly so they could be the only ones who controlled destiny. Their foresight of Cronos eating his children and allowing the Great War to happen, thus creating the Evils, probably made them believe it was better of they alone ruled time, as it seemed Cronos did not have order written in his agenda.

I think "far less subtle" is the far more accurate description since they directly shape the course of every event, unlike Urd (past), Verdandi (present) and Skuld (future) are simply stated what can be happening to the world around the characters by seeing records of their past and present every decision to create complete image of the most possible future. What's the Norns did can be best summarised in this phrase: “The intricacies of any action are complex. the reactions numerous, yet mostly predictable.” -UNSC AI SN CTN 0452-9 "Cortana".
@ukiyo56012 жыл бұрын
In short, the NORNS see the future ahead, the fate of every being but they have no ability to change the course of history. While the sisters of fate have the ability to change the course of history, they can also see the future. Something like that i guess?
