Hey Luke, have you encountered any rust spots after a few months of use? Also, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the detail you put into this. Especially going over how corners are welded and things you just cannot find by looking at reviews and photos online. Also, how organized your time stamps are in the description!

Updates: 3:00 - Regarding the workstation shelf depth, I did not account for the additional height of the countertop material with respect for how far down the top of the cutting board would sit. In my case, the material was 3/4" quartz. That said, I actually like the idea of a cutting board reaching a bit closer to the top of the countertop than what these afford. It's not a big deal, but if you are working near the front edge on the cutting board (the section closest to your body), the knife could be obstructed by the edge of the countertop. Turning the knife sideways or sticking to the center of the cutting board to work helps avoid this. I was planning on having a cutting board fabricated out of maple wood to match my cabinets, and when I do that I will get it thicker to solve this small quirk. 3:57 - My fabricator said it would not be an issue to drill more holes through the stainless steel on the underside if I needed them. I did not need additional holes, but that might not be a limiting factor at all for you if you need more holes. Ask your countertop fabricator if you are unsure.

Hiya Luke! Thank you so much for being the only person who does a nice close up and comparison on the corners and welding. Have you moved in yet and tried out the sink? Was there rust spots showing up? I ask this because there are so many complaints about the Kraus.

We installed the Ruvati, not the Kraus. We have not had rust issues. 304 stainless steel should not rust with either brand. My guess is that the people who experience initial rust are getting surface rust off something else rusting, which is nothing that some Barkeeper's Friend and a scratch free sponge couldn't easily remove. I wouldn't worry about that.

I'm currently in this situation - looking for a new undermount sink. I've been doing a ton of research - because for some reason, the sink decision is more important than anything else in the whole world! Anyway, all of my findings thus far has stated that Kraus sinks are manufactured in China, not the US. Just letting people know in case that makes a difference when choosing. Good luck everybody. Update: I've had my Kraus for a year now and still love it.

0:28 It looks like I might not have been as good of a communicator as I had hoped, because the point I was intending to make was that even though these are both "U.S. brands," they are made with Chinese steel, and in fact every brand I found, even if it said Made in U.S.A., was made with Chinese steel - even if it was assembled in the U.S. 0:50 I discuss that there are sinks made with U.S. steel, but those are custom sinks costing thousands of dollars. All of that was a long way of trying to let people know that you can use price to determine if it is _not_ U.S. steel because if you are paying less than a couple thousand dollars, you are buying steel that is not from the U.S. based on my research. If people have done research to show that there are workstation sinks made with U.S. made steel that are not that expensive, please do post the verified information in the comments for everyone's benefit.

Hi Luke - I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I thought when you said this was a US Brand, you were indicating it was manufactured in the US. I apologize if I just confused people more - not my intention. On a side note - I was also searching for faucets to go with the new sink - (of course). I found this amazing website that has very in-depth, informative reviews of over 250 brands. It lets you pick the brand and read the full detail. They had some good detailed information about the Kraus company. Below is the link if you are interested. It is a great resource for reviews of other products as well. Again, sorry for the confusion. www.starcraftcustombuilders.com/sources.faucets.Kraus.htm

It hasn't been used yet because we haven't moved in. That said, it's 16 guage 304 stainless steel, so it should hold up like other similar sinks. We mostly chose it because of the rounded inside corners while still maintaining a modern look.

I have not personally seen that sink and cannot remember if it was available at the time. I was unable to accommodate a 32" sink in my base cabinet, so it would not work for us. At the time, I know they did not offer a 30" undermount sink with rounded inside corners. I had suggested that they make such a sink when I reached out to them to confirm that the sink that I purchased would work for mounting underneath.

We went with the Ruvati. It's being installed tomorrow, actually. We like the easier to clean corners. Keep in mind, it's only on this top mount version (RVH 8030, linked to in my video description) that has rounded inside corners. We are having it undermounted, however. The version meant for undermount (RVH 8300) has tight radius corners like the Kraus.

@luke9822
@luke9822 3 жыл бұрын
@@honglee87 This was my own home, so I don't have another sink to install for demonstration. That said, it's no different of a process than if you used an undermount sink. You would just need to ensure you cutout the appropriate size hole for the undermount. With a workstation sink, you pretty much want it right on the money with the sink opening, if not slightly positive (larger hole) to accommodate the workstation accessories sitting on the short shelf. Also, I would suggest not using clips and instead using a sink harness or strap, like this one: www.regentstoneproducts.com/sink-mounting-hardware-sink-strap Or, if you are a little better at getting it lined up at the right height, this one: amzn.to/3fGSqs6 Also, use 100% silicone with antimicrobial additive, and not acrylic caulking or things marketed as _"siliconized"_ caulk. Needs to say 100% silicone.

Let us know how it works out for you. A 3-tier shelf sounds like options, but it comes down to how it works in practice for how you use a sink, and if the additional ledges end up getting in your way more than they help. If you decide to review for the benefit of others, post a link back here.

You said the Kraus cutting board wasn't flush with the top of the sink. Could that be because it is an undermount sink and the cutting board is designed to be flush with the countertop?
@luke9822
@luke9822 2 жыл бұрын
The cutting board is designing to rest on the inside edge of the workstation like every other workstation item supplied with the sink. It is shorter than the sink and does not extend to rest on the counter. If you prefer a cutting board to rest on your counter, you can buy any cutting board longer than the sink and would not necessary need a workstation sink. It's possible that the sink was slightly tweaked and would straighten if installed with pressure (like if you used a sink strap). It's also possible it was a warped cutting board and you could have them send another one. I didn't diagnose it further because I ended up going with the Ruvati.

I'm happy with the sink choice and have answered some specific questions in these comments. A super minor quibble is that the bumpers surrounding the bottom grid tend to fall off when cleaning, and can get lost down the drain. You can pick up replacements online and is not that big of a deal. www.amazon.com/Ruvati-Rinse-Grid-Gray-Bumpers/dp/B09SBQCS9C/ Also, I think that a strainer with rounded inside corners would be nice to have vs the squared style they provide, for cleaning purposes. Not a big deal though.

These were two sinks I was considering. The other is the Kohler Prolific. My issues with the latter are the 0 edge and only 18 gauge but shy of getting a Rochielle US 316 sink for the 3-4k (which is sadly not in the budget), I don't know what to do. Personally, I feel like investing that much might be worth it to get a sink that actually has a lifetime warranty (I mean, consider what we spend on appliances that don't last 7 years...), but my husband disagrees... And yeah, budget. (sigh) Since I haven't been able to find this in a shop (the Kohler I could check out in a Kohler store, thankfully), this video was very helpful. I did read about the wobbly cutting boards in the reviews, so I'm curious to know if it's the board or the sink.
@luke9822
@luke9822 3 жыл бұрын
We only recently moved into the place this weekend, and in the process of finishing the kitchen the cutting board was damaged by dropping it on the corner on the ground. We were planning on replacing it anyway with a wood color that matched the rest of the maple wood in our kitchen, so we are having another one cut and remade. I'm not sure if it was the cutting board or the sink not perfectly aligning. There was very little play with this Ruvati sink/cutting board setup and it wasn't a big issue.
@josephcorlett6794
@josephcorlett6794 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt the cutting board wasn't flat. Set the sink upside down on a perfectly flat surface; that's probably what's out. A rubber mallet will probably straighten it out.
@luke9822
@luke9822 3 жыл бұрын
It turns out that after removing the plastic wrap on the Ruvati cutting board and attempting to use it after the sink was installed tight to the slab with a Hercules Universal Sink Harness, the Ruvati cutting board is also a bit warped. It's likely that the drop shelf ledge is not even across both sides. I suppose that's easily checked by placing it on the counter (which I'll have to do).

@@johnsolomita1888 If you visit the "about us" section of the Ruvati site, they will discuss where their products are made. I believe they are made in Texas. I mentioned in the video that workstation sinks made with _U.S.-sourced stainless steel_ were outside the budget of this build. Those typically start at several thousand dollars. U.S. stainless steel isn't cheap. If you are looking for options, look at Rachiele. I believe Haven's Metal is also U.S. steel, but you will have to ask them.
