You guys have an awesome program. Well thought out. We do similar, but we pull from multiple Krav dissaplines(all verysimilar but alliance is one of our favorite) we have our home BJJ source to pull from but we like 10th planet, Gracie(SDBJJ) but again, great choice With master Roy Dean! Quality all the way. Oss.

Many do not realize that the most important skillset is to get out from underneath someone regardless of size and strength. Trap and roll, bridge and roll, upa, knee-elbow, frame hip escape to half guard underhook out the back etc. whatever it may be, is of vital importance to me being a much smaller guy. At this point of my training I am learning how to defend/escape 95% of the time. Of course my guard passes/retention, take down defense, transitions and pins are still great and developing but I have an obsession of getting myself and working out of tough positions. Some times they work, sometimes they do not, but I’m always learning. Makes it easy to size up a person on the street real quick, not always due to size but by demeanor, stance, gait, posture etc. and if they’re gonna be any trouble. It’s a strange way to see things but to me it’s not about belts, it’s about survivial. Kudos!

J Furr we are about to start working on a black belt overview video. It may not be quite as inclusive and clean since the curriculum is more scenario based rather than technical.

therealjasonlam great instructors at DFW. The gun defenses are introduced at the earlier levels (some academies test on them), but it is not a KMA requirement until this level. We also introduce the weapon defenses much earlier in our academy.

The curriculum at the school I coach at is similar as well. For example, we introduce stick defense at Orange belt but don’t test it until Green.

I wish the BJJ blue belt techniques were as complete as this test. I’m right at the brink of blue belt in BJJ and I’m nowhere near this competent against strikes or take downs (sadly enough). I find this system to be much more complete.
@KravMagaDesoto

It’s more difficult to do that with Jiujitsu because you typically need more than one solution for every encounter. It is more of a chess game. Krav Maga by design is checkers. It’s meant to be simple. In a basic street altercation you can keep things much more simple. I tell people Krav Maga is a buffet. There’s no prime rib being served. It’s designed to give a little of everything to survive most likely encounters. Jiujitsu is highly effective in most situations, but it is still a specialized fighting style. It is designed to go head to head against fighters and grapplers that are equally skilled. I’ve spent 18 years teaching Krav Maga but I find the strategic challenge and constant learning of Jiujitsu to be both humbling and engaging. It was definitely a challenge to adjust from a systematic martial arts to a solution and intuitive based style. White to blue is tough. Some Jiujitsu gyms focus more on sport than self defense. Mi teach my Jiujitsu students to defend strikes and how to take combative opponents down. I’m also a black belt in BJJ and I still learn new concepts all the time. Always remember you are leagues ahead of people without training. To often we compare ourselves to our training partners. The journey is personal. Constancy and repping is the key to success. You can always cross-train and train both. Blue belt is a great time to start that. I tell beginners yo stick with one thing for a while before adding more. I have a lot of students who train KM, BJJ, and Kali.

I am a former KM WW student and the curriculum looks identical. I wish they get rid of those high kicks , through, because I never could do them lol. Did the Alliance make any changes from the WW curriculum ?? THX
@KravMagaDesoto
@KravMagaDesoto 7 жыл бұрын
To be honest, we generally do not advocate high kicks in a self defense situation. They are mostly there to build athleticism. If you can kick high with power then kicking low will generate even more. More importantly, at higher levels we work to defend against more skilled attackers. In order to defend such attacks we need to be able to execute the techniques to adequately train the scenario. This is part of the reason you may see more submission ground fighting techniques being added along with the fancier kicks that we wouldn't necessarily use in a fight. The bad guys are getting smarter and we must keep up. As far as curriculum goes it is very close as John Whitman, the founder of KMA was with KMWW for many years. Most of the differences are found in the weapon defenses at higher levels. Not big changes, but some logical refinements that make sense as the system evolves in both respected organizations.

Red belt is reserved for the founder of Krav Maga, Imi Lichtenfeld. Yellow belt is the first level of curriculum that you are learning as a white belt. Krav Maga doesn’t utilize a purple belt. I have listed all curriculum to black belt. There are a few degrees of black belt curriculum that are more scenario based.

@KravMagaDesoto

+Batfleck Forever +1 to this answer. That's exactly right. Building athleticism is also beneficial even though we don't usually need the ability to kick high in a fight. One of my now black belt students could not kick above his waist at blue belt. He was and is an amazing grappler and former high school wrestling coach, but never trained any kicking arts before training Krav Maga. He put a daily focus on building flexibility and the pay off was clear. Not only did he gain the ability to kick head level, it also greatly enhanced his grappling ability. I would go as far as to say if you've made it this far in the system you obviously have a purpose for training beyond basic self defense. Staying healthy, fit, and flexible is as important to a long life as being able to defend it from others. Bottom line, it won't stop your progress without it, but don't let it stop you from reaching "new heights" in your training.

First Last ah, I see. I have a feeling I know who resonates that opinion KZbin. Though I respect him, I have to disagree. Both inside and outside redirects are important to the system. There are other contributing factors like who is around you at the time. I also prefer to damage the computer with a counter strike rather than relying on the groin strike. It doesn’t mean one is better than the other, but I will agree that redirecting to the inside requires you to burst in and have what I would say is better technique and timing. I make the assumption that most attackers will try to pull the gun back and not stiff arm. That is something that tends to happen in training and not really realistic. I know there a lot of people that like to pick and choose techniques throughout the system but they are all systematically designed to integrate to fill all voids and scenarios from varying angles. I find it amazing that the KM system has less than 300 techniques and manages to lay down a guide book for almost any situation. It doesn’t make anyone a super hero. Some situations are at the point that it might be a last ditch effort, but when it comes to self defense we don’t have the option to tap out. I’ve heard a certain person say that “if you are here than you already made a mistake and probably dead.” I’m not willing to tell my students who have survived similar situations that they were helpless. They survived. We are not a system of winning. We are a system of survival.

@@KravMagaDesoto "we are not a system of winning .. survival." That makes perfect sense. I hear people say that you should take MMA instead of KM. My reply is that MMA is intending to be a fighting system in a cage. You win or lose in that cage. KM would teach to you trip the guy get him off balance and run out of the cage where it is safe. You didn't win the cage fight but you ran off and didn't get the crap beat out of you to prove you are a tuff guy. . I realize that is a stupid analogy but it is about getting out of trouble. similar to KM many years ago. I had not even heard of Krav Maga back then, Several years ago myself and my then girlfriend were visiting her family in Indianapolis. We were staying in a motel. One night a gang hit the motel to rob. They hit several rooms. Two guys came in my room by breaking the door. We had one hell of a fight before they left. The training did kick in and even with the tunnel vision and the intensity I remembered what to do. Yeah I got hit and kicked but I continued to fight and they ran off. I did break a finger hitting one in the mouth but that was better than it could of been. My girlfriend was unharmed. When I threw one over my shoulder onto the corner of a dresser it took the fight out of him and they left. Yeah I am aware that I was lucky but without the training it could have been far worse than a broken finger and a few burses. .

Please, free yourself from that brainwashed BUKAN mindset. Yaron never cared about Krav Maga, he always cared about money. He literally sells instructor certificates to people that trained for less than a month. I feel sorry for all BUKAN students that have been dragged into his money grabbing speech, claiming that he is Imi's successor. Stop repeating what others tell you and start thinking on your own.
