It depends on the type of clinch. some fighters have very strong clinches, others have a constant moving clinch. It also depends of the weigh and the heigh of the adversary. Muay Thai is a very old martial arts, which you need to practise a lot to find it's weeknesses.

True in Muay Thai we are trained to squeeze the elbows in very tight. I always learned it was to prevent the opponent from escaping by moving backward. It would also make this technique shown much more difficult. This guy makes me question and or realize how much I had learned back in the day. Krav Maga looks like a fantastic style.

I do like some of his training, but a wrestling takedown? I mean there are many...the best way is to get the feel of training and sparring with a wrestler or Judo player and BJJ player. You will see they all do take downs very different, but have their own positives and negatives. Wrestling takedowns take wrestling to defend normally.

coming from someone who does muay Thai and bjj one of the fastest and easiest ways to counter a muay thai clinch is to catch a knee lift rotate so they cant keep a steady footing and dump them on their back where you can get half mount....

this doesn't make sense, in a actually muay thai clinch you don't have the time to do these shit, you have a knee in the face earlier that you can even think "now i go further and i push his eyes". the only actually way you can counter this is protecting your face with the elbow, yhea that really hurts, and then punch into the groin. moreover i don't think bend over the enemy could really works in that position, even because that's not the aim. no way you can hit the enemy face in a clinch, because he for sure will drive your head as closer as possible to his knee, and not near his head just like in the video, because that doesn't make sense: how could i smash the enemy's face with my knee if his head is near mine? no way, by trying to reach the enemy face in this position you will only have your face broken

The safest counter is Yoko Guruma. During my first Judo Lesson, I grabbed my old, weak sensei and put him on a tight muay thai clinch. He threw himself and accidentally locked both of my arms on the way down. I was not expect it so I screamed. Since then, I have dedicated my self into Judo..
@darymetal10 жыл бұрын
franciscoreatas11 it depends on what we call "clinch", if you think it as a strike even the yoko guruma doesn't work, but if you think it as a grab yoko guruma is definitely a good way to act. that's why you'll never clinch for first, and then strike with the knee, but you'll always strike and clinch at the same time. in mma they teach you that the best thing to do when you're clinched is to protect yourself with the arms crossed, or with your elbow. i agree with you, yoko guruma is a good one but in krav maga is dangerous because you're exposed to the other opponents
@franciscoreatas1110 жыл бұрын
darymetal Yoko guruma, as a sacrife throw is always a last resource technique. I only consider doing it once I feel that my head is being bent over. I rather secure an opponent's arm to my torso, cut an angle by opening like a door and putting my opponent on a standing armbar. If you wish , I could make a video and post it to my account.
@Jake-jf7xk10 жыл бұрын
The key is doing the technique before the clinch can be totally applied. You just need practice enough to recognize and react in time
@darymetal10 жыл бұрын
Jak e i agree, but the point is that the strike and the clinch can happen at the same time, that's why this technique is one of the most powerful

Really helpful video, but the clinch demonstrated by the other instructor is not very good, no offense. If the clinch was held very tight with the elbows being pressed firmly together with firm head control, it would be very hard to sneak your arm through like that. Luckily I'd guess 95-99% of the people you'd fight on the street don't have even a mediocre muy thai clinch, so this would probably work.
@gersonencarnacion37447 ай бұрын
That clinch is done incorrectly you are supposed to put one hand over the other one as you pull the back of the head vertically not horizontal. You wont be able to do this move with the clinch done correctly.

I do see some value in this schooling. The hopes that a legit Muay Thai trained fighter is not on your kneck is great, but even IF...the head butt is valuable and the eye gauge. However, like other people are mentioning , part of the clinch is that the person immediate starts to turn and pull, push you. That is the whole point of the clinch to off balance and twist around your opponent, landing knees and strikes in between. Of course this stiff not useless, there is some value added, its just that not one single martial art is good for everything, Cross train when possible.

+TheAgore47 how many times does it need to be said that Krav Maga is not intended for and should *never* be implemented in combat sports. It is purely self defense and if you try this crap on a friend or competitor, you may seriously injure them.
