Just got done jamming the record, and i was quite excited heading into this record. Kreator plays in this melodic thrash metal style and since I'm a sucker for melody, Kreator is definietly a band that I enjoy. I had listened to the singles, and thought those were all good, Midnight Sun probably being my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. Killer of Jesus I thought was an okay song, nothing too special about it, but nothing bad, but as I progressed through the record, to me a huge chunk of the songs had that feel to them. Crush the Tyrants was alright, Become Immortal I thought was okay you know, but to me the only song that struck a chord with me outside the singles was the song "Demonic Future" I thought that song was more memorable than any of the other tracks. Also I don't know how unpopular this opinion will be, but I actually quite enjoyed the melodic quiet section in "Conquer and Destrory" with the light vocals. Especially when Mille comes in. But yeah man to me oustide of that, this record i thought was quite average, especially after 5 years since Gods of Violence. Pride Comes Before the Fall kinda rubbed me the wrong way with those clean vocals/spoken word tbh lol. Rating - 3/5 Favorite Songs - The Singles and Demonic Future and maybe Conquer and Destroy.

Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I was pretty stoked for this one but as the album went on I found fewer songs were really doing it for me. I loved the thrashy start but Crush the Tyrants really sucked the energy out the album and it took a bit to recover. Demonic Future was a good standout and I do like the darker tinge to Dying Planet but this was just a good album. Not terrible in any facet, but it was just missing something for me.

I still think it's a good album but for me it's definitely missing the ferocity of earlier releases. Sami and Ventor do an excellent job on here though.
@ghastlymagician33362 жыл бұрын
I will say 2 things first. 1.) Millie's vocals are getting better with age, and he is one of the best front man in thrash music.2.) I personally prefer newer Kreator to old Kreator, the quality you get with albums like God's of Violence, and Phantom Antichrist is night and day different over there older material. With that being said, this album was extremely hit or miss for me. Took the opening self titled track, it was an absolute goddam ripper, then they followed it up with a couple tracks that were almost throwaways, then you get to "Strongest of the Strong" which is absolutely catchy as hell, only for it to pull the same thing again. And that was the theme of the album for me, I really enjoyed the tracks " Hate Uber Alles, Strongest of the Strong, Become Immortal, and Conquer and Destroy", but the rest I honestly could forget about, which is why I would give it 3.5 out of 5.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I think Mille has found a solid gear for his vocals over the years and I think he's taken good care not to damage his voice over the years as well. I'm more of an old school fan though I really do like Enemy of God and Hordes of Chaos. I like the less anthemic and more violent material but that's where I got into them and you could say they definitely have different eras of music. This one felt like a more streamlined version of Phantom Antichrist to me. It's not bad but it's really missing a lot of the bite. I like anthemic songs but there were too many that kinda felt the same. It's a good album but I was expecting a bit more from them.

Mille has said that with every album he finds it harder to write songs, which is what probably lead to the experimentation on this album. He might have felt that he'd tapped the well dry within the limits of the Kreator sound. I love Gods of Violence, I think it's their best album since Coma of Souls. My favourite release will always be Terrible Certainty, and Flag of Hate EP. Awakening of the Gods and Flag of Hate are my two favourite songs
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I can see that and I think experimentation is a good thing for the most part but I think he got a bit hung up on one particular mode on this one. It's not a bad release but I had hoped for a bit more on this considering how much I enjoyed Gods of Violence. It's hard to say what my favorite from Kreator is (also, I can't give any spoilers if we rank them lol) but they have a ton of albums that I think are essential listening in my opinion.

I actually really enjoyed about 80% of this, seems like I'm in a minority so far 🤣 I really like the experimentation most of the time, although I can understand a few of the criticisms that I've seen people throw at it. My first real issue is what you implied, Crush The Tyrants is not the song to follow 2 full throttle thrash bangers. Swap it with Strongest of the Strong and I think it's a better way to gradually slow it down. They're still good songs though. The song Dying Planet honestly was the only one that really didn't click with me, which is a shame cause it's the last track. Most of the stuff worked for me so even if it's different and not what you'd expect or necessarily want from Kreator, I still enjoyed it. The nicest surprise was definitely Conquer and Destroy, I actually love that song and how they went for the more epic sound on that and yeah, the clean vocals were a huge surprise but I think they were awesome. A really good mixing of the full tilt thrash and the more old school heavy metal sound. All that being said, I still don't think any song on the album comes close to the quality of the title track, holy shit that song makes me want to spear someone straight through a fence!
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- This one seems to be quite divisive honestly. I've seen some people saying it's there best work since Coma of Souls or even their best yet (too big of a reach there for me) to saying it's just a bad album. I'm more in between. I think it's good but it definitely has some flaws. Yeah, Crush the Tyrant was a bit of dud especially coming off of 2 back to back thrashy monsters. I like Dying Planet because the mood got darker and they got away from the anthemic stuff for a bit. The title track and Killer of Jesus will definitely get more spins for me. I think those have that classic Kreator aggression that I missed on most of this album.

About half of the tracks I'd be fine never hearing again. But the other half was pretty damn enjoyable. Dying Planet had some of the grit and darkness I wish was more on the rest of the album. Strongest of the Strong and Conquer and Destroy were a little corny but I like the triumphant sound. Songs like Crush the Tyrants, Become Immortal, Midnight Sun, Pride were kinda dull though. I'm not familiar with most of their discography but I jammed Gods of Violence a ton and I think that one is better than this. It has higher highs and not as low of lows. Lead guitar work also seemed more impactful. It was a huge release day for music today! Interested to see what you will cover. Inanimate Existence, Soreption, Kardashev, Seventh Wonder. All stellar releases. Plus some I have yet to hear.

Necrotic Nick- Man, that is a spicey take considering their discography but I respect your stance. I think this one is good but my expectations were higher.

I honestly class post 2000's Kreator as a melodic death metal band. To me their music sounds more like Arch Enemy than Sodom.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- It definitely has a lot of those elements but at the same time I think albums like Enemy of God and Hordes of Chaos are still more on the thrash spectrum. I think they really started laying on the melodeath vibe was on Phantom Antichrist through to this one. I still like it but I want the thrash to take back over.

Easy solution for the Kreator current problem: Fire Sami Yli-Sirniö. He just does not fit there. He never has.

If Kreator got rid of the three-punch mid-tempo sleepers (Crush the Tyrants, Strongest of the Strong, and Become Immortal) the pace of the album would be so much better - albeit I dig Strongest of the Strong, but it's sandwiched between 2 ultra boring songs. Dying Planet though, what a fucking song - and that 'death metal' tremolo riff goes so well with Mille's vocals!

They'll never top Terrible Certainty or the Flag of Hate EP. But then, do they have to?
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- They have a lot of killer album I love Terrible Certainty but Extreme Aggression is amazing as well and Enemy of God was pretty killer too. Honestly, they have so many killer albums that I doubt they really need to top anything at this point.

I really like Violent Revolution, Enemy of God and Phantom Antichrist as far as the modern era.I think Kreator is just going through the motions now. Not impressed...
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- This one is decent but I feel like they got stuck in one mode too much on here and left a lot to be desired from their older fans. I liked the last few but I really enjoy the older material personally. That's just me though.

So far, I'm liking it but I need to give it a few more listens. I thought there were some pretty strong tracks but also some really weak ones like Dying Planet. My first impressions are good but not as good as Gods of Violence.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I think it's good but it's missing that old Kreator sound on a fair amount of it. While I like the experimentation I feel like they needed some more aggressive track on here to keep it a bit more rooted in their familiar sound. Surprisingly Dying Planet was a standout for me. I liked the darker sound and the more doomy atmosphere. I may have just been tired of all the anthems though. Yeah, I liked Gods of Violence more but I still think this is good though.
@joshalan51252 жыл бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah I listened to it again today I agree that all in all, its a decent metal album but I expected more from the biggest name in German thrash after a 5 year gap from their last album. I wouldn't say its one of their weakest albums but its certaintly not one of their strongest either.

Not excited about this at all. I haven't played my copy of Gods Of Violence once in at least two years. I thought that album was all over the place. I did love Phantom Antichrist & Enemy Of God though. And I do dig tf outta Kreator. The new direction is fine, but (like modern Over Kill) ain't really my bag.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I liked Gods of Violence but Phantom Antichrist was kinda of a mixed bag for me. Enemy of God and Hordes of Chaos honestly were more my style. I prefer Kreator more on the aggressive side overall. This one is good but I think it got too hung up on trying to be anthemic all the time for me.

I wasn't expecting "Pleasure To Kill" or "Coma Of Souls" but that was a big disappointment. Fells like a rehashed of the last 4-5 albums with really lame new stuff like the female vox. Sami is still killing it in terms of solos but I like him much better in Waltari.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- It wasn't a huge disappointment but it definitely left a bit to be desired. I just want a bit more aggression and less anthemic stuff with "shout the song title" choruses honestly. I liked Gods of Violence but this one doesn't pack the same punch.

Good album but needs more thrash and less mid passed tracks. Gods of violence is still my favorite 2000s album by them.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- 100% with you there, man. It opened up furiously and then just rode the midtempo stuff for too long. I needed more aggression and less anthems this time around. Gods of Violence was definitely a stronger album overall for me.

I feel like on this album someone tore out Kreator’s canines and threw away their aggression. I’m not a big fan of Hordes of Chaos and everything up to now and I’d say mostly because of their choruses. I hate their choruses at this point they all sound the same and it’s just repeating the song titles over and over. To me the album periodically teases you and constantly disappoints or it’s boring and cringy. Unfortunately I’ll give it a 2/5.
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- The aggression is still there on some of the tracks but there's not enough of it across the album. To be fair, their choruses have always been hit or miss with me but they become really exposed when the material surrounding them isn't as good as it has been. I like this album but they've done a lot better before.

Unfortunately I lost interest after Endorama. Terrible Certainty is my favorite followed by Extreme Aggression, I even love Renewal. I guess it’s when the melodic approach started to take root I started losing interest. The power metal bombast of some of the choruses are pure cheese to me. His voice has really lost it’s appeal to me as well. It’s a shame because they obviously work hard on what they do so I wish them continued success…
@thrallsofmetal2 жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I pretty much skipped Endorama and Outcast altogether and picked back up at Violent Revolution and Enemy of God but I'm bigger on the early material. I like melody in metal but this kinda just got stuck in one particular gear when it came down to the melodies. Not every song needs to be an anthemic song. I needed some more angry ones on this one personally. Still, it's a good album and it hasn't dulled my love of Kreator in the least.

This ain't Kreator... I don't now what the fuck this is... Mix of Judas Priest, Manowar and Tribulation and not in a good way... Really full of fillers... O.K. now you can throw shit on me!

Necrotic Nick- I don't know about that. It's not one the level of bad like Endorama or Outcast but it's no where near their classics so I'd say it's more mid tier for me.
