If a band makes mostly similar albums for their entire career people throw the AC/DC label at them “every album sounds the same” but if they change it up every so often people throw the Metallica label at them “they should have just stuck to the same structure”
@supremelordoftheuniverse54492 жыл бұрын
It's not that simple. There is a huge difference between a band being consistent and sticking to its guns, not changing style but offering high quality in release after release - in other words, writing something that no one else could have written because they invented it and are the best at it AND bands that just churn out the same recycled ideas over and over (and become a parody of themselves). Similarly, innovation and style change can be welcome if it's creative and elevates the band to new heights. What Metallica did with the black album was the opposite - they dumbed down the music, slowed down the speed and just went on to play straight forward dad rock.

I dont think them not being "thrashy" enough is the problem with this record. I think the songs are just not very well written compared to other records. Alot of the guitar parts are recycled and the lyrics are quite frankly lazy and repetitive. Not much stands out in this record.

Thank you for somewhat putting into words how I felt about this album. It was like with movie trailers these days, the best scenes/songs are given away in singles, and the rest isn't that great. Although I realized I've come to love Kreator very late (saw them live in 2018 the first time), when they were on the Gods of Violence cycle and also played many Phantom Antichrist bangers, both of which are also pretty melodic and somewhat epic, which is exactly why I love those two albums so much. Also agree on the new Sodom album, for me it's the best record ever from these boys.

I'm a big fan of Kreator's later work (Violent Revolution and onwards) and sometimes they can get really lazy with their lyrics. Spending a little time to vary up the choruses would go a long way and would basically fix any of the lyrical issues that I have. HUA is an ok album and I'm glad that I bought it to support the band. Thankfully, their previous material is really solid and more fun to revisit.

They’ve been doing the Thrash meets Epic Heavy Metal thing for a while already. The difference between this and the last couple is that it feels like they’re trying too hard now. They gotta let moments breathe. The songs always felt like they barely ever kicked into the next gear. They didn’t let songs take flight and sound epic on their own, a bit too heavy handed. Gods of Violence is my favorite, and I wanted more of that here. Not quite, but it isn’t bad.

Sound pretty tight! I don't mind a slower pace here and there, atmosphere and experimentation. On repetition, true, but for me clever lyrics and vocals are just a bonus. Truth is, I never knew what he was saying in a classic like Pleasure to Kill, until he sings "Plea-sure-to-kill!" It was fast, relentless and brutal sound, clever composition, killer solos and machine gun drumming. This new stuff may be less 'old stuff' or brutal, perhaps a bit more moody, marching or repetitive, but still has all the musical gems I love from Kreator. Just where they are at 'right now' in their musical journey.

It's albums like this that should make us not take for granted the luxury we have to listen to it on YT 1st before buying! The pomegranate metaphor is spot on. How bad this album is would be easy to blame on the core members' age, but when there are death metal bands from their era still grinding, that potential excuse goes out the door. This album feels like those moments when a band puts out a bad album, only to be later outdone by a horrible album- then suddenly that bad album sounds like a masterpiece compared to the new, horrible album (ex: Slayer's Divine Intervention sounding like retread notes until Diabolos in Musica dropped, then going back to Divine & thinking it's actually really good- except the production. ) Respectfully, I disagree with some of the comments here. The last 4 Kreator albums were all great with some weak spots here & there. This one sounds too "catchy", overly melodic for a Kreator album, & obnoxiously chorus heavy! If there was a fund to help Kreator pay to re-record their 1st 5 albums with today's production technology, especially Terrible Certainty, I'd be down for that !

The album sounds like the last few albums just a few chord changes. Its getting to the point were if you aren't a hardcore fan you couldn't tell what song comes from what album. Just serve up the same thing over and over to the generic fans that don't or are scared of any change in music. Most of these bands saw what happened in the 90s and realized that in order to survive with the shrinking fan base they had to deliver the same thing over and over. The AC/DC formula.

In defence for Kreator, I liked this record because they finally did some experimentation. The previous records were just violent revolution revisited. I think Kreator should not be put in the same boat as Sodom and Destruction because those two are pretty limited to being Thrash while kreator have records even with Gothic influences. So they are not tied to a label like the other German thrash bands. And that's why I prefer Kreator over the others and over most of American bands as well.

Am I in a twilight zone episode? Because I fucking love this album. It's one of the strongest from their modern era. People have to accept that Kreator is split into two eras: the 5 classic masterpieces and the now 6 modern albums that are mostly very good across the board. Mille and Ventor are mid fifties and half their live set is already made up of the blazing classics. You simply can't go full throttle all the time. Kreator also tours a hell of a lot more than Sodom so they definitely have more mileage on their career in that regard. I love Sodom, but they seem to only come out nowadays to play the occasional festival and never full tours. Complaining about intro tracks? Pleasure to Kill had one too lol. Complaining about repeat choruses? Hordes of Chaos is probably the biggest offender there... The new album is consistently very good front to back. I felt Phantom Antichrist and Gods of Violence fall off in their second halves pretty hard. Kreator have been heavily melodic since Violent Revolution so I don't get the complaints that seem like this is some shocking twist to their sound. If anything, their use of melodies have improved a lot since 20 years ago. Whenever they get heavily melodic now, it at least feels more like Iron Maiden and other nwobhm and less like in flames. Violent Revolution and Enemy of God feel very much like melo-death.

This should've been a 7 song album. The first 4 (after the intro) are great!! Ditch ';Become Immortal' 'Conquer and Destroy' and 'Pride' or 'Demonic'. Midnight Sun is so weird it's growing on me and Dying Planet has a super cool Pestillence type riff and isn't a typical Kreator tune. I'd prefer to have those types of experimental songs than garbage like the aforementioned. Like many comments have noted, they're straying too far into cheesy epic heavy metal with some of their songs (like Fallen Brother and Hail to the Hordes). It's also a bit of a shame about some of these lyrics because Petrozza is an incredible lyricist) Oh well, It's still an enjoyable album with a bunch of killer tunes.

@@tehCostHD I think it's mainly the cheese factor. Plus I just found them boring. Swap Kreator and Sodom and you have my take on things. I had issues with the Genesis XIX record. Terrible mix, 2 filler tracks and the rest of it was nice but not good enough for Sodom. Destruction's record, on the other hand was truly great! But I'm in love with this Kreator record. Raw production, great inspired melodies, dug the experiments on Midnight Sun and Dying Planet :)

I like this album !! midnight sun is not my favorite at all but the rest is fun.. Blayne is harsh with big bands hahaha I can't wait to hear what he's got to say about the new behemoth album..

Bayne was dropped on his head a lot as a kid.

@@KrzysztofMularOlsen maybe ! I think he is being harsh because maybe sounds "cool". However, I like when people don't jump and say "OH YES.. THIS ALBUM IS GREAT" just because it's X big band.
