'Kremlin-like' law passed in Georgia as protests continue | BBC News

Georgian lawmakers have passed a law that will force civil society groups and media organisations to declare foreign funding.
There have been weeks of mass street protests and even scuffles inside parliament.
Critics say the law is modelled on a Russian law and could be used to threaten civil liberties.
The government insists it's necessary for transparency.
On Tuesday, police were dispersing large crowds of protesters outside Georgia's parliament.

If will then give it the tool to ban and block any Western influence, while itself, conveniently not being affected by the law, thus, pulling Georgia close to Russia. The Georgian citizens know this. Thats why they are angry and resisting. Plus, this party promised to move closer to Europe, now, they have betrayed their people and moved closer to Russian Authoritarianism.

To anyone comparing this with FARA law! According to this law anyone can write down anonymous letter about suspicion that someone may be foreign agent and just submit it without any access procedure and government has rights to access any type of personal information about the suspected person or organisation :) please think what does that mean In the end the fact is WE DON'T WANT RUSSIA!!! Edit: I will clarify, anyone means not only organisations but regular people who consume any type of western media, will it be books, movies, videos or news :) stating any opposing opinion could also be considered being foreign agent because of influence. At any point it doesn't matter whether you are actually an organisation or just a citizen, whether you get support from any western country (and mind you Georgia heavily relies on western support, b/c government doesn't want to spend extra money for even cultural restorations :) so yea ), under just suspicion any citizen can be identified as single funded nonprofit organisation that didn't register itself :) there goes opposition what democracy or EU are we taking about then? Another edit: to add to that, if you are under suspicion legally you can't go on with your regular life for at least 6 months. It's silencing out voices and nothing else, the law isn't even legalized yet and people are being brutally beaten and silenced already Another edit: and by brutally I mean do mean brutally, yet our government lies in our faces that police do what they have to and beating people up in pulp doesn't go against anything, if you are interested about the scale school aged kids are being arrested just for standing and protesting
