Three North Koreans want to tell the world about the situation in the country.
They expose, for the first time, the disaster unfolding there since the government sealed the borders more than three years ago starvation, brutal crackdowns and no chance to escape.
Under the tyrannical rule of Kim Jong Un, North Koreans are forbidden from making contact with the outside world.
A spokesperson for the North Korean government has disputed the claims, which they said were “not entirely factual”.

@@ChristopherGray00 The US government has wet dreams about this level of control. Why hasn't our government done anything to fix the water crisis in flint, MI . Because all the US government cares about is money. Did you know nancy pelosi makes over 100k a year? Both sides of the political spectrum in the US are corrupt. not just republicans, but both democrats and republicans, not much different from china's political system, china is a one party system, the US technically has many political parties but the only people who ever have a chance are those that align to one of the two main ones, being republican or democrat, i am certainly grateful for the privileges and freedoms i do have. However the US is being influenced by china. Hunter biden and Joe biden have both benefited from trade with both China and Russia and Ukraine. Biden isn't innocent. In fact the world Is laughing at the US right now.

As a Chinese I am shocked to learn how bad the current situation is in North Korea. Growing up I've always heard stories of North Koreans trying to seek refuge in one of our local towns bordering the country. But I didn't know the people's lives got this bad after COVID. Here I am playing Diablo 4 at home while listening to KZbin and planning with my friends to go party at a KTV later this evening, while an entire country just a mile away is starving to death. I am so shocked. I'm also ashamed how our government is openly in support of North Korean's government.

In the West, the individual is the basic unit that all of society is ordered around, and the power is diffused within rule by the many. In Asia, the emphasis is on the group, or the clan, and to govern so many, power is routed primarily through a few individuals. The defining issue of our era is deciding which system will dominate the other and triumph. Only one will be applied all over the world in the future. Its no longer about capitalist vs communist, that is yesteryear's conflict. And each system benefits some at the expense of others. The Chjnese or North Korean leaders say that in the West, ppl may not be starving to death, but that they are still wage slaves that are given the illusion of political choice. the system never adapts to address their problems, so ppl use drugs to dull the pain of being a voiceless consumer who will be forgotten bc they could not afford to start a family and worked for a corporation their entire life. The challenge of being blessed with wealth is actually more arduous than the challenge of poverty. Its why most lottery winners end up destroying their lives.

@@yayfly7349 because unfortunately China is on their side-ish, and if a western nation declared war China likely would not be happy and would aid North Korea. The last thing the CCP needs to see is their communist neighbor's regime fall, even if people know how bad it is, because that would worry the Chinese government that their people will want to transition to democracy/capitalism as well. It also has the possibility of becoming a nuclear if Kim's nukes are as capable as he says they are. Of course, the US could easily obliterate them with nukes but it's too risky a situation to risk China getting involved or even a potential nuclear strike on western soil. It's not like WWII where at the point the Allies liberated the concentration camps, the Nazis were already majorly losing the war, and had no shot at ever coming back, whereas North Korea still has a sort-of ally with China, and the regime won't collapse for another few decades. We all looked out the window and observed it was flying so low we could see every detail of the plane. It was doing laps over Seoul. Later we learned he demanded permission to land before he would run out of fuel and crash. The pilot was granted permission to land. The pilot said he put his entire family in danger by defecting but needed to tell everyone how most were starving to death at that time. Sadly nothing has been done to help the North Koreans. At night it would sound like the whole N.Korean army was coming. We used to run ambush patrols at night and recon patrols in the day. When we were right up next to the mdl we could see into N.Korea and occasionally see some of the workers they would bus into their side of the border to "propaganda village" make it look like they lived there. Whether we were on patrol or at guardpost Collier or Oullete. I would look across into N.Korea and wonder what it was like. Back then we didn't have the media coverage that we do now. Its a very sad situation. The N.Korean people don't deserve this corrupt dictatorship.

It is a different system and for them it works. The US bombed North Korea catastrophically in 1953 and since then viciously sanctioned and tried to overthrow the government politically - so they have good reason to not trust the US and good on them for protecting themselves. We are upset with them that we cannot control them and so we have to constantly release these smear films about North Korea which is sad and pathetic.

I hope the North Korean people are able to get some kind of relief. It's sickening this is happening. Good job to the brave folks who are bringing these interviews through the North Korean borders, and especially to the people risking everything to speak on their experiences. They are not North Korea. It is Kim Jong Un's kingdom with people who have been thoroughly brainwashed, exploited, suppressed and controlled since birth. Also, his plan is still an invasion of the South and plans to slaughter 20 million people against their ideology, and 10 million out of a total of 50 million people in Korea are expected to flee the country in the event of a war. Unlike political dictatorships in China and Russia, North Koreans are still trapped in the 1950s. Also, North Korea cannot use the Internet that connects to foreign countries, and the media exists to strictly follow Kim Jong-un

I'm actually quite concerned that the methods used to keep the North Korean informers' identities a secret weren't thorough enough. We actually learned quite a bit of detail about their lives and locations. And then the BBC took the information back to the North Korean government for their reaction/response???? Watching this, I hope that the 3 who shared their life stories weren't sacrificing their lives and the lives of those they love in order to get this info to us. May their risks and potential sacrifices not be in vain.

For me, this is heartbreaking because it's been this way for a very long time and these people should not have been forced to live this way. When I joined the US Army my first duty station was in South Korea in 1980. I remember being shown films about North Korea and other very important information. Being stationed in South Korea I met some ROK Soldiers and I was shocked at the amount of inhuman treatment of those in North Korea and how they suffer. Having served my time there I spent time patrolling inside the DMZ it's kind of weird at first but you get used to doing patrols. I don't if they still play that loudspeaker toward the border of South Korea playing all sorts of propaganda to the US and South Korean soldiers. The Kim family rules by fear and with no remorse taking people and punishing whole families even back 3rd or 4th generations of people. However, Kim is a bad man but his sister is more evil than he is and they both need to stoped and get the people the help they need to be part of the world outside of the prison of Kim's family.

I hope they changed some details like number of children. Although then some innocent woman might be interrogated instead. So it's better to not give any details at all, I'd think.

A man having his leg cut off will never not be in pain during the process just because the man next to him is having both his legs cut off. Just like how a mother's pain of losing a child will not lessen just because another mother lost two children. You can understand that others have it worse than you without taking away from the pain you are currently suffering. Besides, do we really want to live in a world where people are less sad solely because they see others suffering worse than them? That would slowly turn toxic over time.
