Random Military History: Krepost Sveaborg, Russian WWI Land Fortifications in Helsinki. S01 E06.
Helsinki is surrounded by a fortress chain built by the Russian Empire during World War I. Most of the forts have stood empty for a hundred years and all possible materials have been salvaged.
Nevertheless, there are still signs of trenches, stone roads, pillboxes and shelters in the terrain.
Why the Russian Empire ended up digging rocks full of fortifications is an interesting story.
