Loved this video. So entertaining and relaxing. Like those old garage shows that would come on back in the day and they would build a car or truck over the course of a few episodes.

such an excellent series! Hope more people get to view and enjoy the great content/value you provided over these 8 parts. What got me connected initially was around info for the SWFA 3-15x42 (and then the zero stop shims) and I stuck around for the whole thing... hope all is well and that you'll bless us with more content in the future! Cheers.

Building my first bolt gun soon and I'm going with the krg chassis. Im a lefty so I'll be going with the left hand 700 SA chassis. I love the videos thanks. my set up is going to be similar to yours

It has worked very well for me. I think the only thing I would do different if I had it to do again, is to wait a bit on the bolt lift. I would do it last when I knew better what the needs and interferences were going to be.

Beautiful rifle

That is a fine rifle. My current bolt action rifle has a 24 inch barrel. Once I experience what a 308 can do with a 20 inch barrel via my DPMS LR308 I will never shoot a 308 with a barrel longer than 20 inches. I'm going to embark on a similar journey of my own to acquire a 20 inch precision bolt action. The one thing I will do different is when I'm done I plan to put a suppressor on it. There is just something about hearing safe marksmanship that make sense.
@drmaudio8 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I agree. I would also like to put a suppressor on this one, but it will be a good while as I will have to wait for the budget to recover, then for the stamp. In terms of barrel length, .308 doesn't loose much velocity per inch (around 20 FPS per inch with the heavier bullets we tend to shoot for long range), so the 20" barrel makes sense to me, particularly if you intend to suppress it.

well done series. I just completed a similar project utilizing the Savage 10 fcp-sr in 6.5 Creedmoor and a Primary Arms 4-14 ffp, R grid reticle. Shoots lights out. Wish you continued success in honing your skills.

Sounds like a nice rig. Savage has been killing it lately.

Thanks, I love the 6.5 bullets and have used them for years in competition. After adding the muzzle brake, my wife who has had 2 neck surgeries and shoot it all day with no problems. God bless

How are the PMAGs working for you so far in the xray? I've read mix reviews. If they are flawless in the X-ray without any modifications, I'll get those.
@drmaudio8 жыл бұрын
Well, it is common with AICS pattern mags that pressure on the lower front or bottom as you cycle can cause over insertion and lock up your bolt, in my rifle the Pmags do that, but so do AI brand metal mags. With the X-Ray you can tighten the mag fit enough to eliminate this, but I would rather run a barrier stop and have the mags drop free. I have not modified my Magpul 7.62AC mags and have not had any other problems with them (5 or 10 round). I will be buying and running more Magpuls in this rifle.

looks like you were at the Casa Grande shooting range. sounds like you were shooting at the 795 yd steel plates on the mountainside... is that true?

Good review. Not sure I like the idea of washers on front action screw though, think they would have been better including a proper length screw. Also glad to see someone that can fast forward edit the unnecessary and tedious crap. What size where the groups before the chassis was fitted? Factory ammo? Hope your groups shrink more with tuned reloads. Good luck with your new build. Thanks for the review.
@drmaudio8 жыл бұрын
Prior to the chassis, I was shooting 3/4 MOA off the bench, but groups from the bipod were not good, about 1.5 - 2 MOA. I am now consistently sub-moa prone from the bipod. These are tuned hand loads. I think the group size will improve with my skill. At this point, I'm the limiting factor.
@Backstreetfroyz5 жыл бұрын
I was using a factory stock (same as yours) shimmed with small pieces of aluminum from a coke can and had amazing groups. Figured it could only get better with the X-ray chassis system, and I was wrong. Unfortunately, my groups opened up and I haven’t been happy with the grouping since. I plan on playing with the action screw torque settings a bit to see what I can do, any advice on what else I could try?
@drmaudio5 жыл бұрын
I think you are on the right path. Check that your recoil lug is firmly seated in against the back of the recess and then try different torque settings. Make sure you got the two washers on the front action screw too. I hear of some missing that in the instructions. That is where I would start, anyway.

What's the shortest possible LOP adjustment on this chassis?
@ronzi836 жыл бұрын
I have question. How do you use cleaning rod with this chassis ? I have problem with it .
@drmaudio6 жыл бұрын
Gregor Rencelj , just pull the adjustable comb. If you make sure the o-rings are in place and rolled down to the bottom before you loosen it, it will drop right back to the same place when you put it back on.

Do you think this chassis would fit a Remington 700 VTR with that triangular barrel?

The channel is quite roomy, but I really couldn't say for sure. I would contact KRG. I've found them to be pretty responsive.

what do you fill those bags with? I used sand and the are crazy heavy.
@drmaudio7 жыл бұрын
These bench rest bags are filled with ground corn cob media. You want them to be reasonably heavy, but sand can be a bit much to haul around.

How do you figure that the Ruger Precision Rifle is only 300 less. It only costs 1200.
@drmaudio8 жыл бұрын
Yes, but that doesn't include (at least at the time I filmed this) a muzzle device, scope, scope accessories, or rings. Including everything except those items, This rifle cost me $1520, or about $300 more than the Ruger Precision. It is also worth noting that the $1520 price includes $198 for the Timney Trigger. Now the Ruger trigger is arguably better than the stock Remington, but the Timney is decidedly better than both (IMO), so depending on how you look at that, you could say I spent only $100 more.

The only draw back I see in this build is it wouldn't put you in production class if you were to compete. I'd love to have a prs but unfortunately there are no ranges beyond 100yds where I live :/
