Great video, good comparison side to side. I was looking at both of these stocks a year ago. If you want to use it for precision rifle competition XRS is your choice, if you want to do some hunting, choose the Field Stock. I put a field Stock on my Tikka T3X Super Varmint 6.5 Creedmore, light enough for hunting but decent for precision shooting, I love it.

How do you like the thinness of the butt of the stock for the field stock? Seems a little too thin for me but maybe I wouldn’t notice too much?
@Philip_Taylor9 ай бұрын
Caleb, consider covering and sealing that fibreglass insulation in the ceiling. All day long, tiny fibers could be falling into the air, and you might be breathing them in brother. You know how you're supposed to wear gloves when you handle the stuff? That's because it implants in your skin! Just imagine what it could be doing to your lungs.

That Field Stock is used in the Mossberg Patriot Long Range Tactical. The Patriot doesn't come with a MDT magazine. It is a different brand.
@notsure78748 ай бұрын
That disclaimer is not on the MDT Field Chassis page, but I assure you it has the exact same issue with metal mags. Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor, MDT Field Stock, Accuracy International metal AICS magazine. I thought it may have been related to the position of the shoulder on the 6.5 vs 308 and maybe the 308 would work - but this video cured me of that thought. What appears to happen is the base of the round is still being retained by the mag lips and it goes forward enough to pass the shoulder of the round below it, and the rim goes down, bullet goes up, bolt rams into the side of the case instead of driving it home. At the range, I short stroked it back - but not all the way back to pick up the next round - and it'd pop up out of there. I'm considering trimming the lips on the metal one to see if I can make it work but I might return it idk.
@calebwhiteknives8 ай бұрын
I’ll give that a try next time I’m at the range. Thank you! 🙏🏻
@notsure78748 ай бұрын
@@calebwhiteknivesWhen I say it rams into the side of the case - it does that but the angle prevents it from moving so the base is still held in by the feed lips, and it just gets stuck and won't move any more forward. I'm sure enough force would break something.

KUDO'S for a great comparison video! The other thing that I liked was with the XRS... the feel was quite a bit more sturdy and fit like a glove being a left hand shooter shooting a RH chassis setup ( which utilized my whole life and accelerates my operation compared to being RHanded on a RH bolt gun... around a tenth and a half quicker than most of the competitors in my classes ). Fully enjoyed the info! Respectfully, Seth

@joshua31132 ай бұрын
Have a heavy barrel in the field stock and keep my bipod tight and you can see the stock flex when you move it side to side on the bipod. Not so much I think it'll contact the barrel but that's what I noticed. Might not be the greatest for heavier barrels. XRS certainly looks much more rigid up front.

One of these would be nice on the new RUGER American Gen.2 Predator (plus a Timney Calvin trigger). With the Field stock, the American Gen.2 in 6.5 PRC, the BURRIS ELIMINATOR 6 - 20 x 52 with its sensors and built in ballistic engine long range western US hunting would be very accurate (in states where this score is legal). A boy can dream!

I'm curious what you have your scopes wrapped in. Is it Multicam camo wrap, or ....? Thanks for the comparison video. Just got a Mossberg Patriot LR Tactical with the MDT Field chassis. Loving it!
@calebwhiteknives9 ай бұрын
Yes, I use multicam camo-wrap, or similar on most of my scopes and forearms...it's less destructive than painting a really expensive scope. And quicker sometimes. Although I usually end up painting them any way. It's also a quick way to get a camo job on them and keeps the cold off the hand on aluminum forearms when bumping around in the woods. I think I ordered it from CamoForm? Maybe? I'll look for the packaging and post it up.
@travismullenaux48719 ай бұрын
How does your wrap handle moisture? Does it get nasty when it gets wet via rain or snow? Am trying to decide between camo wrap, or vinyl wrap. Leaning towards the camo wrap.

Can an Arca rail be attached to the Field stock, or XRS only? I think Arca rails are a certain width and never smaller, which would make it extend beyond the edges of the Field stock fore end. I want quick attachment to a tripod for coyote hunting, without having to lug a rifle+tripod single unit on my shoulders over the course of 15-20 miles in a single night.

Not fussing man but i wish you would have shown the mloc construction on the feild stock. I believe the overmolded aluminum stops before the mloc so it just straight polymer. Something to consider if you are going to run a bipod on the field stock long term.
@calebwhiteknives9 ай бұрын
I considered taking the whole thing apart and digging around; but my curiosity for getting the action together and scoped so I could get to the range overrode my curiosity about the mlok/aluminum situation in the handle. I don’t believe it goes very far; to your point, long-term bipod use may eventually distort it. Time will tell, but I rarely keep bipods on my rigs full time unless they’re dedicated bench guns.
