Great review! Thanks a lot! I added Fuji to my gear because of size and weight. Canon cameras are great for low light and sports photography, but lenses and bodies tend to be very heavy there. But I have to admit, that Fuji changed my life. The small-sized equipment makes it easier to enjoy a trip. But I also have to admit, that Fuji really puts focus on quality. I own the 50-140mm which I use on my X-T4, and it is my perfect gear. Now I bought this 27mm lens, and I must say that it is very good. Even at 2.8. As Andrei said, "beautiful noise", I also like beautiful softness. With the introduction of new cameras and now that photography is very digital, photographers put too much focus on flaws. Noise, sharpness, blur, colours.... Photography is not about perfection. It is about feelings.

It's good, Zeiss called it the 'eagle eye'. Indeed very sharp, but focallength is a bit limited, framing is key. Get a 16/2.8 and 23/2 too, plus 50/2. 27/2 would have been nicer though.

I never thought I would like this lens that much when I ordered a used Copy out of curiousity. I didnt plan on keeping it when I ordered it because I have the 16mm, 23mm, 35 and 50mm. Why would I need this?! Well, the size! The size and compactness make this so unique and fun. I will throw this on my x pro3 and I am good during the day light/outsides. I have the old version and actually debated if I should sell it and get the new version but meh, I will keep that old fucker. Good lens IMO.

I am not sure what you said about flaring ("what do you expect from a lens like this") Not sure what that means, but I've been using this lens as my standard lens and can confidently say that there is no flaring, even shooting into the early morning winter sunrise. Superb lens.

I've had this lens since it was released, pre-ordering mine before they became unavailable for some time. I agree with all of your review. I shoot only photos, never video, and I have no problem with the autofocus for general shooting. My only negative situation is with the minimum focus distance, as I'm often bumping up against it. This is simply a function of the pancake design which has limited extension for close focus. I accept this trade off for the size advantage when I want a small profile on the street. FWIW, I bought a very nice hood from Squarehood which has designed a terrific hood just for this lens that copies the same design they have for the X100 series. It is somewhat expensive, but it does effectively keep oblique light off of the front element as well as offer physical protection from accidental finger smudges.
@AndreiDimaReviews
@AndreiDimaReviews 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking on buying the hood from Squarehood more for protection but I also like the design. How is the quality of the hood?
@albertsmith9315
@albertsmith9315 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreiDimaReviewsThe hood is very well designed. You screw a ring into the filter threads then you align the actual hood onto the ring so that it is properly oriented, then you tighten the set screws with the supplied tiny screwdriver. It went on in seconds and has never needed any repeated tightening after much use. The hood is great, but the supplied cap is not very good, it seems like an afterthought. Nothing actually holds it on the hood but a tiny lip of soft material, but the lip is not deep enough to keep it on. I gave up on the cap, but I wouldn't want to be without the actual hood after using ut.

Would you get better, same or worse results from using this lens on an XT2/XT3/XT4 vs the X100V? Being a pancake lens you would get close to the small form factor of the X100V, I just worry about final results. I’m looking for a dedicated street setup. I don’t wanna take my XH2/XH2s out on the street.

Could you tell me why since I switched to the XT5 (I had photos are not very clear...! I'm not talking about grain which above 3200 ISO has more due to the denser sensor... I blamed the lens I have at the moment, namely the 23mm f1.4 old version which certainly doesn't solve everyone the 40 megap... (I will change the lenses as soon as possible!) The shutter speeds are always above 1/160th of a sec. The only thing I never use is the stabilizer because I don't make videos and I almost never shoot at slow speeds... It's really interesting focal length 40 mm for me. It's a bit of a in between link that I don't shoot a lot. I would really like this lens but I don't think I would use it for a Portrait and I don't think it's wide enough for street captures or landscape so it kinda doesn't really server purpose for me. I think it's a wonderful idea but I would like to see an 18 mm pancake and maybe a 35mm (50mm) pancake possibly now is that possible I don't know but that would be really cool if they could do that.... I do love the idea of it it's just the focal length is not for me, but maybe if I gave want to go and find some captures that I can use for it

I now usually bring a 13mm F1.4 despite the size as the photos you get are just stunning in all conditions. I'm also waiting for the next X100 or X-E5. The X100 would be my choice though due to the size and additional features like the ND filter, flash leaf shutter. You actually have the focal range of 28-50mm on X100 with the additional lenses and even up to 100mm with the digital teleconverter in jpeg.

About the noise I noticed when comparing incamera jpegs and the corresponding raw that I get way better results going from the raw, using dxo ai prime denoising (or not) then make a jpeg from there. Also I don't use the acros anymore, it's noise at high iso is pretty bad compared to the monochrome simulation. When in high iso there's obviously noise and Acros adds its own on top. It seems to me very disgraceful.
