The darkness of the gravy comes from the iron kadai and spices used in Salem cuisine. The gravy is cooked until it blackens. Next time for south Indian coffee stop at Kaapi stop at 5 roads in Salem. You get good choices of filter coffee like blended with or without chicory and more. They have few more branches in Salem and yercaud but this one is the spacious one. Coffee is sourced from their own triveni estate in Yercaud.

Hello Also wanted to let you know even folding the Banana Leaf after your lunch has many meaning as well. If you fold towards yourself it means you enjoyed the food and will come back again. If you folds opposite site you didn't enjoy the meals and will not come again. This predominantly in Marriages in Tamil Nadu and deeper part of Tamil Nadu 😉😀😀

You should definitely savour the salem special "Thattu Vadai set" and "Norukkal" at some point. Usually 100s of stalls and push carts starts in evening about 5 PM. Try it for sure.

Try *kumar dhaba* in salem on the salem-banglore Highway near omalur tollgate. A 45 year old eatery serving various cuisines. Even though the taste before was very much better dnt know how it's now. My personal suggestion would be to try their Hyderabadi chicken gravy and their curd rice
