Also, level 6 gives the tavern an extra minion slot. If I'm correct and less than one 6-drop is found per roll on average, that's a net increase in the probability to find the lower tier cards.

Whats crazy is it still works and in duos you can make your friends hero power do the same thing as long as it targets tavern minions. My friend was playing George and every tavern minion he gave divine shield to also became golden

Yes you do but but you also flood the minion and spell pool with 6 drops. If you don't have any interest in the 6 drops the correct play is to not level.
