My son and I switched to trail riding and do practices at some tracks and are still having fun. I choose food over racing at this point. What's going on in the economy will kill motocross.

Already seen it happing. last year seen a 200 youth signed up for races and in a matter of months we have seen it drop to 40 in a most of the races. Just crazy to see what inflation is doing and the cost of racing to keep everything opened

Most tracks in the northwest are about: $15 per person entry fee (racing or not) $30 camping (per vehicle regardless of if you're in a honda civic camping with your family in a motorhome) $40 for practice on Fridays $40 per class per day So if I wanted to bring the family to the track to watch me race: $15x6 entry = $90 Camping = $60 (van with the bikes and car for the kids -- van can't fit everyone) Practice = $40 Racing 2 classes 2 days = $160 Not to mention most tracks are about 150miles away on average (300mi round trip) with gas so high = $150 gas give or take + a second car with better mpg = $50 Looking at $550 for a regular race weekend. Now to stay in shape and be competitive x4 = $2200/mo Not to mention all the other stuff on a race weekend. Food, drinks, gas for the bikes, bike supplies that get used, bike maintenance, etc." And my van is having troubles now with so many miles on it so I'll have to figure out how much that's going to cost. I just want to improve and be competitive in the local A classes..
@nothaber81302 жыл бұрын
This is why I switched to offroad racing. It's more fun imo and it's 10$ a head to park and 40$ a class. But each class gives you over an hour of ride time. Not like MX where you need to race 2 classes just to break a sweat.

I love Keefer and I'm glad he's bringing this issue to light because greed is killing the sport but Keefer is part of the problem. A guy who gets free gear and bikes who also makes fun if people don't match their helmet brand with their gear brand. Keefer complaining about the cost of racing is like a billionaire whining that gas is too high. It is true but it's hard to get around who the complaint is coming from. I know Keefer isn't rich but they both win contingency so again it's hard to feel sorry for dudes living the dream.

Its a bit of a joke at LL. All the oney spent for 4 laps per race. Ive been. Its great. Unless youre 1 of the few that will actually make it, save your money and race local. Its a bit absurd to pay all of that for a max of less than an hour of track time.

@@hamonrye9823 no im being realistic.99% of riders that go will never make it to the pros. These families travel all over the world to race and they get 4 laps. How much mo ey have these families spent to go? Do you even have an idea of that? How many times have you personally been to LL for racing? Its not being negative to want actual races for these kids whos parents spend a fortune to go and the clrace ends before the bike even warms up.

@@gekcee3266 ppl in this world love to get out their opinions (and they have the right too) but most of the time ppl do not look at the logistics that make up a situation . Organizing events and paying people to make events runs smooth is not cheap. Tractors grooming the track are not cheap. Water on the west coast is not plentiful in some places like pala... then a company needs to make profit so they can sustain. It all comes down to fun and supply and demand . This is America 2022 alot of ppl work hard and have wealth. James Stewart was poor as fuck when he was younger but he made it. And he also had help from non factory sponsors like ken griffey junior and Barry larkin

@@hamonrye9823 again if youve never taken a kid or yourself there racing you have no ideaof the costs. 99% of the track workers are volunteers. Meaning they work for free. I go every year and every year they add more classes while taking track time away from the riders. Believe me they make plenty of profit off the riders. They profit. This isnt an opinion, its fact from someone that has raced at, been a spectator at and brought a kid to this race. Its called 1st hand knowledge. Oh amd we arent talking about pala. We are talking about 1 specific event. Always trying to move the goal posts back when youve got no actual point

OMG!!!! 30 DOLLARS TO PRACTICE? . . . Hey wait a minute, isn’t it always 30 dollars for Practice, whether it’s a regional or not? Ya it is. I’ve done some regionals and they we’re pretty pricey. I just figured it was cause it’s a 4 day event. Lots of nights of camping for me to pay for , and lots of days of flaggers for the track to pay for. The 60 dollar AMA fee kinda sucked, but I assume there’s some extra work involved because of the size of the event. All in all I thought it was priced about right. Super fun too. A full 42 riders on the gate is a rush!!! Ricky Lee 555
