What numbers her among the best in the world is her intelligence. She always knows where she is in the music, always hears what's coming next, always knows what patterns fit the beat and mood. And her sticking & foot work is impeccable. Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Louie Bellson, Gene Krupa are watching open-mouthed.

OK she does not have an individual signature, Like very talented and experienced drummers... That's ONE flaw, in a other wise flawless very young drummer. Neil Peart, from Rush, one of the Best drummers of all time, said that he could not improvise in the drum kit many times. in the 90's, Peart had classes with a Jazz drummer, to learn how to not sound too "Robotic" as Drummer... His words. Now look at her age and "All the tools" she developed as Drummer, i think its no exaggeration for someone to call her "The real Deal", if the person feels it.

There's an explainer online somewhere in one of the Drum channels where she talks about the "secrets" and "tricks" to her power. She acknowledges she's only slight and so she has custom sticks with massive rubber grips so she can hold the sticks right at the end and use the full momentum of the entire stick length. Then for the fast portions she will shorten her grip. She often uses a stick twirl or juggle mid-fill to shorten her grip or to create an unusual syncopation, often on the high hat. She is not using the rubber grips in this vid but you can see how she holds the sticks only half in her hand to enable full momentum of the entire length of the stick. Also - she's only about 17 or 18 in this clip - so she's just getting started - just getting this whole thing worked out. Check her out more recently - search Blowing Luv Senri Kawaguchi ... and that whole session (all the thumb nails look the same). She is early 20s now (2019) and just getting better with every drum strike.

Miss Kawaguchi had two strikes against her when she was born: 1) female; 2) Japanese society where individuality is not looked upon favorably, especially if you're female. Kudos to her parents (her father is a drummer and started teaching her at 3) for encouraging their daughter, and allowing her gift to blossom and flourish so that Senri can share with the world. For what it's worth, I have the greatest respect and admiration for Miss Kawaguchi' s parents.
@buggi53896 жыл бұрын
Sorry, her father is not a drummer! Please, read this medium.com/@yasunaka/whos-that-drummer-girl-3e1af3834494 An extract from this article: "... Senri was born in 1997 and began playing drums at the age of five. Remarkably, it was never a case of an early head start by “pushy parenting.” In fact, her parents were just casual pop music listeners and had never played any musical instruments in their lives. So, it was purely coincidental that her father walked by the local music shop one day in 2002, and saw Yamaha DTX electric drums on a clearance sale. He became interested only because he liked collecting and tinkering with electric gadgets, and all the switches on the control panel looked enticing to him, though he wasn’t sure what he could actually do with them. A shop assistant came over and gave a demonstration, and also delivered a sales pitch assuring him, “Oh, anyone can play and enjoy it!” In the end, he bought the kit and took it home. He felt some satisfaction when he was assembling it, seeing how sensors in pads were designed to generate signals when struck. He did try using it for its purpose, only to realize, just after a few days, that it wasn’t for him. So he had to deal with the junk that took up a huge space in his apartment. “What a dumb purchase I just made,” he sighed. He even felt tricked by the shop assistant. The set was left intact in the living room for a while, and then something magical started to happen. Senri thought of it as her new toy and became enchanted by it. It turned out to be all fun and games for her, especially because the set could be connected to a standalone version of DrumMania, a music video game, in PlayStation 2. It became the pastime activity after her kindergarten classes. A year later, her parents began contemplating giving Senri and her older brother private music lessons. It is quite a common practice among Japanese families. They weren’t setting hefty goals, just trying to give them an experience they didn’t have... "
