What a match it was at the South Club Calcutta in 1966 between Ramanathan Krishnan and Thomas Koch.We had almost given up hope the previous day . But fortune favoured the brave the next day. I had bunked college to see that match .😊

I was an Untrained Graduate Assistant, a euphemism for a Teacher without a B. T. in High Schools of Tamilnadu in those days. I , a boy of 19 was working in Thirukkazhukundram Govt. High School. I didn't sleep the night Krish was trailing the Brazilian Thomas Koch . The next day, telling the Headmaster the truth that I would be listening to the running commentary of the rest of the match from a tea - stall and went away. I and the tea - stall owner, a fan of Krish, were glued to the commentary till krish and India won and entered the Challenge Round. You won't believe now how we celebrated that historic moment and with what generosity that poor tea-stall owner distributed whatever he had in that shop to his customers. Now I am 80. Still looking back with nostalgia those golden ages. Krish, the gentleman - player, I am praying for you and your entire family, seeking His blessings.

I played krish in an exhibition many years ago at the Bharat electronics courts in Bangalore. I was the Karnataka junior champion then. He beat me 6-2, 6-4 but more importantly it was the best lesson i ever had. He exposed many weaknesses which helped me focus and improve for many years thereafter. Great player, what a privilege to play him!

Well played and well spoken... Mr.Krishnan and Mrs Krishnan...such a beautiful lady and such a humorous man...she openly she talks about her husband's good looks...good nature and "possibilities"... :-) :-)...tennis is still nowhere in india... it is still all cricket... and that's why greats like RafaNadal and Federer are so popular among tennis aficionados in our country...

Krish played in Allahabad in 1955, when I was a student at Ewing Christian College. Other prominent players were there too, such as Premjit Lal and Jaideep Mukerjea. I watched them play all 8 days, as I had purchased a season ticket. Later, I went out of country and watched several tennis matches: my favorites Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Stefi Graf, Monica Seles and lately Novak Djokovic. My favorites were: Ivan Lendl for his gentleman ship and Gabriela Sabatini for her shyness !

Amazing to see that you were a tennis fan since 2005. You hav seen some great Tennis players and managed to follow through out. Thats true love for the game. Its sad that my generation is completely brain washed with Cricket. Ofcourse we have amazing players in India to love like Bopanna, Somnath, Leander Peas, Sania Mirza and Bhupathi.
