Besides playing tennis at the elite level, Vijay possessed diplomatic skills. I remember 2 instances from 80's. First he lobbied with US President of that time to cancel supplies of AWACS to Pakistan and second he impressed upon Rajiv Gandhi, then PM of India to allow Israel Davis Cup team to play in India in 1987. We went on to reach the finals that year.

One of my favorite sportsperson. There was a time in the '70s when he was part of the ABC of tennis - Amritraj, Borg and Conners. Not only was he a stylish player, but he was known to be a perfect gentleman and a great human being. Salute, Sir! Prakash is turning out to be a fine and humble person like dad.

Vijay was a brilliant player, a natural at the game. I was in middle school when he was a few years ahead in high school at Don Bosco. He was already playing tennis at an international level and making India proud. I grew up watching him and admiring his talents and exploits on the court. Perhaps the greatest quality is Vijay’s humility. He is a gentleman in every sense of the term. It was great watching his son Prakash interview his illustrious father. Prakash is a terrific commentator and I’ve watched him at the US Open in the interview box. Prakash is a great communicator who can critically analyze the game and put tennis players at ease.

I and a few of my fellow Indian grad school mates had the good fortune of meeting Mr Amritraj at the 1989 Cincinnati Open. He had just won his second round match and was to take on Becker in the third round. He was so gracious that he spent few minutes talking to us. Before we departed, we told him to go get the better of Becker. He politely smiled and said he would try. He is such a down to earth, endearing and humble gentleman. Successive generations of Indian tennis players that came after him owe a great deal to Vijay for being such a source of inspiration and guiding light. May he and his family live long and prosper!

What a neat conversation between Mr. Amritraj and Mr. Amritraj! It didn't feel like a nine minute interview (editing aside). Time flies when Prakash Amritraj is on the interviewing scene . I'll call this the Prakash effect. It was cool to hear about all the extraordinary memories Mr. Amritraj has made! He's an engaging speaker. Charisma must run in the family. Seeing Prakash look at his father with such admiration throughout the vid was heartwarming. You can tell he's proud of his dad. This would've been a nice Fathers' Day post, but I'm not mad we get to watch it now.

The Amrithraj brothers,i remember back in the day when they had decended at the Bangalore Club and my sister,me and so many other members of the club heading towards the tennis courts to see them. We were so exited.Have followed Vijay more as the on air commentator. He was excellent.

My wife and I lived in married students' apartment in the Buckeye Village when were graduate students at the Ohio State University. To my regret, I learned from Columbus Despatch, the local newspaper that Amritraj Brothers had practiced at the tennis courts that were located just 50 yards from our apartment in preparation for the Cincinnati Open 1983! I had no clue!

Remember they were also Loyola College Chennai Products few years Senior to us ..These are all Golden Generation Gentleman who brought Repute and Dignity in everything they did...Can't name even one sportsmen who has that kind of Dignity and Humility like the Amitraj Brothers had .. Especially Vijay....Not one single sportsman from India can match Class..Dignity.. Knowledge and Humility like them ever...Now it's only money driven.. Spinners with no else in the head
