Kristaps Porzingis. 2018 NBA All-Star. The UNICORN. KP finished out his season leading the league in blocked shots, with 2.4 blocks per game. He also finished in the top 20 in scoring (22.7 points per game), and became the FIRST player in the NBA since the 1983-84 season to post a stat line of at least 40 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 2 made 3 pointers. He was having by far his best season on both ends (his 22.7 points per game, 39.3% 3 point shooting, 2.4 blocks per game, and 0.8 steals per game are all career-highs) when he went down with that scary injury.
Appropriately named the Unicorn because of his incredible size and skill set, Porzingis has been performing up to his potential his entire career. His footwork is the foundation that makes him such a fearsome offensive force. His forays to the rim are made easy by his incredible length, and he finishes with either foot, with either hand. His post and pinch post game are so polished that while everyone rightfully sees Dirk Nowitzki, when he gets into his jab action, I see shades of Kobe. Kristaps keeps his opponents off balance with his unpredictability. His height allows him to rise up over pretty much anyone, and his release is ready at any given moment. He can feint and fake and if you lean even just a little, he’s already gone. If he can stay healthy, only time will tell how great KP can be.
I really enjoyed 4:25 or so, he has at least two plays where he goes for an off foot runner. Incredible balance.
